well, during the finals, one of the espn commentators said that he was named after jean-paul marat, a leader in the french revolution.....he's the guy in that famous painting where he's lying dead in the bath tub with a letter in his hand after his wife or someone murdered him......err, yeah...seems kind of weird, but that's what it said in my history book lol. Sorry, but that's actually not true.....The French journos/commentators started that idea about 4 or 5 years ago, that he was named after a French hero and it stuck. But Marat has always denied it - he says he was actually named by his grandmother who chose it from a Russian book  But I've no idea what it means - not even Marat seems to know! ;D |

ahhh. i looked at the link waiting to hear this sexy marat in spanish and i forgot that the sound on my computer is shot! ahhh!! i'm in suspense. but i did hear him speak spanish at the aus open and that was sexy so the memory will have to last me for a while! what was he saying? can anyone give a translation? was it about line or foot fault calls and hewitt's spat? (i can't quite remember when in the match it was now)

there was a moment in the final that he talked in spanish, the video is in the Safin Lounge, He says: "every point is important for me right now" then the judge says something I didn't get it and then marat repeats: "every point is important for me, don't **** me" or don't tease me, I don't know how translate that, he says "no me jodas" which is a bad word but not as bad as **** in the english language

Me van a afanar cada vez?" then the judge spoke and Marat replied "...ya sé, pero cada punto es importante, no me jodas" TRANSLATION: "...for me every point is important now. Am I going to be stolen every time?" the judge spoke and he replied "...I know, but everypoint is important, no me jodas" He said so with an strange argentine accent for him. Saying "no me jodas" is very common in Argentina, and it´s hardly considered a bad word here. In Spain is considerend a stronger word, I think (not 100% sure)... Saying "afanar" instead of "robar" (steal) is VERY argentine. I´m almost sure that an spanish or most of southamerican judges can understand the expression, but a portuguese one (as the one of the final was)....  ;D I think Marat had spent some time with south-american players  |

that expression is used very commonly in spain, in mexico is considered a very strong word, but not in spain, as my family is from spain, I'm very used to it, for me is not a strong word. |

Lau, I clearly heard: "Si van a fallar cada vez..." instead of "afanar", and it's most likely he said that. "Afanar" is too argentine... and though I'd love to hear him say that, it's almost impossible ;D But you know what? Before the "no me jodas", I'd swear I heard "boludo"  |
