Sh... happens, that's life. If a player let's all those conditions (rain delays, late night, blablabla...) get to him so much that he loses because of the distraction they cause him, then maybe he has to check his own mindset. Just my own personal opinion, of course. That would be true if both Marat and Wawrinka had to face equal conditions. And the tougher player won. But it was not the case. Wawrinka didn't have to deal with waiting in lockers for 5 hours to play his first match. Wawrinka had advantage and it's not fair to talk about 'checking mindset' in this particular case. Yes, players sometimes have to play 2 matches in a day, but it's not always second match is agaisnt top 10 player and not both matches in the evening.

Maybe...just maybe..Wawrinka got very keen on winning after seeing his fellow countryman and doubles partner Roger lose ..perhaps it was a factor too among other things.

An article: Unfortunately, our man Safin went down to No. 9 seed Stanislas Wawrinka late Wednesday night. He beat Wawrinka in far more dramatic circumstances at Wimbledon a few weeks ago. But this time, he had to briefly play late Tuesday night, get shut down by the rain, wait forever to play Wednesday because of a six-hour delay, and come back again Wednesday night to face a tough customer. He was the one most affected by the weather issues, which is patently unfair. It was an up-for-grabs match, with both players making a lot of errors. Safin served only 52%, and was 0-for-6 on break points, three of them in one game, when he was up 1-0 in the second set. Wawrinka held there, and then broke Safin, whereupon Marat fired a ball out of the stadium (or tried). After that, it was only a matter of time. Safin made the second round in Montreal a year ago, so his ranking won't change much either way because of this defeat.

Wow, Gilles def Acasuso 63,64and cruises thru the quarter-finals. He has a very good hard court season start! Young Cilic is giving A-Rod a hard time . ....... EDIT: Cilic is into quarter-finals 64, 46, 64. I think Cilic is very solid, been observing him since AO. Great future ahead of him. Best of luck!! (He reminds me of Bambi when he serves. a little blinking of eyes and looking at the opponent......) Even though I only like Marat (and appreciate Maestro's game very much) , somehow, the withering of new balls generation( JC, Rod, Rogi, Lleyton, and Nalby, the most underachieved talented player IMHO....) makes me real sad.

To play this late is really really not good for players. But I guess they have no choice..... Still very sad over Marat's loss. I thought he could keep the momentum. Maybe the delay-rescheduling freaks him out and he just lost it. Ah, well, that's our boy. Guess he will need some more fairy dust. It was always going to be tough to beat Wawrinka, the man is 10 in the world and is pretty good on hardcourt, so we never know if with a 'normal schedule' Marat could have won. Of course the rain delay and 2 match in one day made it even worse but still the road ahead is long and nothing is lost yet, not even the momentum Cheer on him for me at Cincy ;D kisses

LOL!! ============= Well, those two comments I made actually were not all about Marat. Jen was mentioning doubles still had to proceed when Marat finished. It's almost midnight. **I was like, you've got to be kidding me. Few would stay to watch and they play for nobody..... ** Then I made another separate comment about Marat's loss. ============ Yes, Stan is pretty good on hard courts. Last year at Cincy, he beat Nalby straight sets effortlessly. Nalby was like totally clueless and helpless.

LOL Go figure. ... and Andy, Andy, Andy ... what to do with you? *sigh* Simon - Cilic should prove very interesting though given how well the two are doing at the moment ... Murray - Djokovic QF is also set (Murray beat Stan 62 06 64) .... and woohoo! Rain has stopped! ;D

Kiwi takes out Nikolay 46 64 64 and JB gets revenge from last week against Dima 46 61 64 and the match-that-almost-wasn't (Igor-Rafa -- Igor took a spill on his ankle after 3 points) has turned into a beauty *whistle* ... I find humor in the fact that most of the players are wearing blue for the HC ... when the courts and backdrops are also blue ;D (they all look pretty good in blue though )

AMS Features Video: giving an AMS Quiz to a few players ;D ... it's hysterical (esp Mario and James) just to watch their facial expressions and staring to the ceiling racking their brains for answers, or just blind guessing -- Mario esp is a cutie pie Dima: www.atpmastersseries.tv/page/Montreal/Features/0,,11444~1350645,00.html Mario: www.atpmastersseries.tv/page/Montreal/Features/0,,11444~1350764,00.html James: www.atpmastersseries.tv/page/Montreal/Features/0,,11444~1350763,00.html
