Maestro was right on time: 7.30 sharp he was on court; and then he's as sweet as always with the children (two girls tonight)...one of them even says: "This is so cool" .... That was so very very cute....Will always admire Maestro

Marat will get a bit more of a rest - Simon is pushing Fed to a 3rd set - dun dun dun ... and ya gotta give the guys credit for all the crap they have to deal with: Tommy-Nikolay were on Court 3 - but they apparently don't have all the fancy lighting the show courts do ... Acasuso-Gonzo just finished so Tommy-Nikolay moved to the Grandstand to finish their match ... -- strange things ...

Marat will get a bit more of a rest - Simon is pushing Fed to a 3rd set - dun dun dun I thought Maestro's taking business pretty easily with a smooth first set win. Hope all matches can gradually get on track and Marat can play tonite. It's better he plays two matches today cuz he will need more energy as it progresses and there's still Cincy masters awaiting for him next week yet. He has enough warmups and should be able teach Stan another lesson right away. It's already 9pm. Hurry up, maestro! COME ON, MARAT!! COLLECT LOTS OF POINTS IN TORONTO AND CINCY!!!!!!

Cilic d Robredo 63 64 Davydenko d Haas 63 76 Tursunov d Lopez 63 76 Blake d Bjorkman 16 61 62 -- WTF about the first set James Soderling d Verdasco 64 67 64 Ferrer d Ginepri 64 64 Gasquet d Kudryavtsev 75 63 Andreev d Berdych 64 36 64 -- totally underestimated Igor this week -- Go Igor! -- gets Rafa next -- should be a good one Nadal d Levine 64 62 -- Jesse gave Rafa a little run for his money in the beginning Murray d Johansson 64 64 Safin d Querrey 63 63 Wawrinka d Safin 63 64 Kiefer-Youzhny are still in progress at 11:30 -- beginning of the 2nd set after an 80min FIRST SET EDIT: Kiefer d Youzhny 76 75 and W.T.F. -- they aren't seriously going to start a doubles match at 11:30 at night??! -- that kinda story is only supposed to be reserved for AO ;D

and W.T.F. -- they aren't seriously going to start a doubles match at 11:30 at night??! -- that kinda story is only supposed to be reserved for AO ;D they are! Igor-Nikolay v Rafa-Tommy are playing their doubles match -- talk about late-night entertainment it's obviously in desperation for scheduling issues since 3 out of the 4 will play singles matches tomorrow ... I have a feeling that the doubles draw may take a hit with all the delays and scheduling, particularly if they have more delays ... I can see some of the singles-players teams withdrawing due to time constraints, which would be a bummer

To play this late is really really not good for players. But I guess they have no choice..... Still very sad over Marat's loss. I thought he could keep the momentum. Maybe the delay-rescheduling freaks him out and he just lost it. Ah, well, that's our boy. Guess he will need some more fairy dust.

www.atptennis.com/1/en/2008news/toronto_federernadal.aspROGERS CUP Toronto, Canada July 23, 2008 Federer's Reign At No. 1 Under Imminent Threat Roger FedererRoger Federer's hopes of retaining the ATP World No. 1 ranking in coming weeks took a major hit Wednesday night when he suffered a shock first-up loss to new Indianapolis champion Gilles Simon at the Rogers Cup. Federer twice held a service break in the final set agaist Simon but paid the price for more than 20 unforced forehand errors en route to a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 defeat. Should World No. 2 Rafael Nadal win the Rogers Cup this week, the Spaniard would have the chance next week at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati to dethrone Federer, who has held top spot in the South African Airways Rankings for 234 consecutive weeks (since February 2004). “I had some missed opportunities that cost me dearly in the end, so it was a disappointing match today," Federer said of his loss to Frenchman Simon, the early leader in the US Open Series due to his victory in Indianapolis last week. “It's important to stay positive. The hard court season just started. It's the start of, what is it, nine months of hard court? It's not the end of the world, but I wish it could have started better.” Nadal is 770 points behind Federer this week but could cut that lead to a mere 275 points should he win the Rogers Cup, which he did in Montreal in 2005. While Nadal could take No. 1 in Cincinnati if he reached the final and Federer again bowed out early, any change at the top is unlikely to happen before August 18 – two weeks after Cincinnati - due to a calendar shift this season to accommodate the Olympics. Last year, ATP Masters Series events in Canada and Cincinnati were played two weeks later in the season than they are being played this year. Because points earned by players count towards their rankings for 52 weeks, the 850 points Federer earned last year by reaching the Canada final and winning the Cincinnati title will continue to count towards his ranking during the same Masters Series tournaments this year. Come August 18, those 850 points will no longer count towards Federer's ranking. In contrast, Nadal will drop 230 points (225 points for reaching the Rogers Cup semifinals in 2007 and five points for losing his first match in Cincinnati in 2007.) Federer and Nadal have been No. 1 and 2 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings every week since July 25, 2005 when Nadal became No. 2. Federer has ranked a record 234 consecutive weeks at No. 1 (since Feb. 2, 2004) and Nadal for 157 straight weeks at No. 2.

what a bummer of an evening. Federer, out. Marat didnt look too good - he looked exhausted (understandable... as he had to play two matches). He was frustrated from 1/2 way through the first set till the end. He had way too many unforced errors... he did look strong though - shots were just off target. Serve was good...
