Missed the women's final. Just had to get to bed. Might watch it tonight if I don't get home too late. If anyone missed Maestro's semi, check out You Tube in the next few days, if it's not already there ... someone will post this shot. Third set 6-5 and 30 love up. Noely lobs Maestro, he scurries to baseline and doesn't look as if he'll even reach it. He does ... and then hits the ball back between his legs ... and little does he know, it's a cross-court winner for matchpoint. LMAO. He deserves the title for that shot alone. FG PS Well done Kim. That shot was indeed a big bow down ( i even more loved Roger's reaction to it then the actual point, LOL) , but, if i remember correctly, didn't Marat once played a shot like that??? I do hope Rog will win it tonight, i don't care less about the pony, but i do hope for a breathtaking 5 set marathon, and if, for some reason, del pony will be the winner, i'm happy too Oh, and btw .... as for today, Kim enters the WTA again, on spot 19

Rafa Kimmy ;D ;D ;D Am I the only one who wants Del Potro to win? You're not alone my friend. I am on the half-half. I believe Del Potro deserves some credit. No offense to maryb and the Andy Murray fans out there, but I was sort of downed when Andy went down in a very unfashionable style. And it's Marin. I sorta took a long pause and reflect. Maybe after a year he'd regain those. But the most disappointing is Novak haha. Marat...not so much. Kinda used to it... So whoever wins is happy news for me. I hoped Djoko would win, but unfortunately, he lost. I am cheering for the underdog, TOO. Roger has won a lot, enough to be a legend already. Nothing against Roger, ya, just boring if this domination continues.

OMG we are into a fifth set what a match Del Pony is playing. I was browsing through the TGFR and remembe a little piece our Lau wrote about Delpo before anyone know him - its a nice read and remember we found him first LOL I´m looking for Juan Martín Del Potro fans here (he is the big promise of arg. tennis ) "Mi ídolo máximo es Safin. Y de los nuestros, Nalbandian. Me gustaría algún día poder jugar como ellos. Trato de imitar la facilidad con la que juegan, la concentración que tienen. Cuando están bien de la cabeza, es imposible ganarles." "My idol is Safin. And from ours, Nalbandian. Someday, I'd like to be able to play like them. I try to imitate the easiness with which they play, the focus they have. When their head is in place, is impossible to beat them." (OK, I wouldn´t say David and Marat´s mind is the best of them...., but..., whatever...) source: www.lanacion.com.ar/765282He is 17 years old, is 157° of the ranking, 1,95 metres (6.39 feet aprox). He is veeeery tall and he is working on his serve (which is already a good one) to take advantage of his height. He has got a good backhand, his shots are really powerfull and he already said his favourite surface is hard. And the best thing is he can move really well considering his height He said: "I want to ne Nº1, win the USopen and the Davis Cup" (apart from David, that said he would love to win Wimbledon, this is the second Arg. player that says that would like to win a Slam it´s not RG) BTW, in the pic I posted previously with all the players, he is the one on the right of Guga and behing Puerta

Ya dancer. I wondered why nobody had posted a score ... they are still on court! Got in 10 minutes ago from my psychic evening (bevvy included ...) expecting to see Maestro holding the trophy by now. A fifth set, 3-0 to DP ... oh dear, this could be Del Pony's breakthrough. Suppose it has to happen at some point.
Was hoping Maestro got at least one more GS.

Oh, and btw .... as for today, Kim enters the WTA again, on spot 19 WooHoo Kim!! ;D Fed-DP ... ugh, thank God that's over, 'cause it was not pretty. Except for Kim, this tourney ended up being quite the downer. Leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. Congrats to Juan Martin ... nice to end with them both gracious, as always.

Schnipps. There goes that dream. Del Pony has just won 3-6 7-6 4-6 7-6 6-2
It's 1.30am .. and I have a meeting to chair tomorrow morning. Schnipps ... and I toyed with the idea of putting a bet on DP as the winner. Oh well ...
Nite nite ... for the last time.

OMG DEL PONY HAS BEATEN ROGER 3-6 7-6 6-4 7-6 6-2 Im quite sad its like how i felt when Rafa beat him at Wimbledon last year! Gutted! But all i can say well done Del Pony it was a Maratesque performance like in 2000 against Sampras. Its 1:30AM UK time and i think i will sign out from TGFR on this note. Goodbye All!

Nothing against Roger, ya, just boring if this domination continues. Novak's one of my faves..hehe. It is truly boring if Roger wins every tourney. And he's a boring personality. I don't know why. Happy for him winning the slams and all but I prefer Pete Sampras to him, or even late-bloomer Andre... I mean, saw Roger on Letterman when he bagged the US Open '05 and he was like, they talked for what, about 5 minutes? When Marat was on his show, it seemed like Dave really enjoyed him on the set. They looked mature individuals intellectually talking (and I won't forget the humor too) Marat's english was not so so good back then... I love the vodka joke... And there was one thing I won't ever forget, what he said about Pete describing him as the future of tennis...he went like, "But it's just words...I have to prove that he's right" And it was much better than saying thank you or something else... Lovely memory...that one was. On the US Open Result, well Del Potro won!!!!! And I love TGFR! Heheh... Annie you hear that? Hahah. I agree with avalon. Next year I hope it's a more exciting tour. But Marat won't be there, so at the same time I'm kinda lonely. But I am really enthused about his life after tennis! Love lots! Glad to see I can still post!

wow... JMDP - what a match! It reminded me of 9 years ago... when a young rising star, 20 years old, slayed the older, more experienced monster across the net...
Thanks everyone - it's been a blast chatting with you all here, and I will miss this board terribly. I'm on MTF, so, hope to see some of you there.
xoxo, Sherri

Whoa everybody's talking about Marat now. Maybe it's a sign TGFR shouldn't close...Kidding. I have my twitter account on search and this is all what they say about the final: @jonstennistweet I was just kind of struck that this feels like Sampras '90. He doesn't have a Safin-brain, why won't he win several Slams? - JayJayDean Portro wins the us open, reminds me of when Safin made his mark back with Sampras - clingo @neilnriley He won't be Safin, but he won't be Fed either. So...I'm good. - FortyDeuceTwits Congrats to Del Potro. I did not know how good he was. Potentially a rich man's sane version of Marat Safin. - Seesmic @5livetennis Not quite up there with Safin 2000, but still brilliant tennis. - grahamtennis Good call @ttanyone Anyone thinking Sampras-Safin 2000? - tennismetro Anyone thinking Sampras-Safin 2000? - ttanyone DL: 4-2 Del Potro in the fifth! Reminds me of Marat Safin's performance in 2000. And Federer playing close to his best. - 5livetennis This reminds me, in a way, of the sampras/safin final. - ptenisnet Del Potro deserves this. Not as much as Safin, but the lesser of two evils in this case. ;p @fymee, can't believe you're missing this. -karymb Some folks looking at todays men's final like 2000 Safin/Sampras-Delpo not as good as Safin then myloc.me/DD7y -montuorp Last time i saw a champion whipped like this was when Sampras lost to Marat Safin. - sshreyas First time I've seen Del Potro and been completely convinced. Only Federer could have stopped him today. Like watching Safin in 2000 final. - DavidLawTennis He reminded me of Safin in the 2000 final vs. Sampras. That flawless. -CamRivero ---- Missed the women's final. Just had to get to bed. Might watch it tonight if I don't get home too late. I have watched that match millions of times. Marat made a similar shot to save a match point in the tiebreaker for the 4th set and wound up beating Roger in 5 sets (on the seventh match points)! I will never forget that sweet memory, Maratik's calmness, sense of humor and his respect towards Roger. And yes, the Dave's show with Maratik as one of the guests was so fun to watch. He was young, funny and cute. That show is forever precious!! I have to vent a bit now. I am happy that there's a new rising star who ends Roger's winning streak. (Whether he will be a threat to Roger's throne is still unknown. ) However, tennis won't seem to be the same for me after Maratik retires. I will still watch it, but I don't think nobody would ever catch my attention immediately like Marat did back in 2004. I have already missed his unique character and passionate style of game so very much. Sad, sad, sad. Best of luck to his upcoming projects, though!! Again, congrats to Del Pony and sorry, Roger, not this time.
