I'm going to give myself the honour of opening the last ever thread here - sorry guys LOL But the place where Marat made his name and fittingly the place where TGFR makes its end. Hopefully there will still be lots to talk about during the 2 weeks! I believe he is in the hamptons with Ernests Gulbis getting in some practise before the open kicks off! Its like playing against a mirror image for a week! OMG, the thread denomination makes me cry!
Summer's end...Safin ending his carer...last thread....it reminds me of the saddest song out there: Dusty Springfield's "Windmills of your mind"
"When you knew that it was over Were you suddenly aware That the autumn leaves were turning To the color of his hair".
I need a drink!

I got sad at the thought of "the last thread" here too.. Even though I have just recently started posting I was a long time lurker and a long time Marat fan. The whole retirement thing is so depressing! I just hope he makes this last USO a good one..

I believe he is in the hamptons with Ernests Gulbis getting in some practise before the open kicks off! Its like playing against a mirror image for a week! Damn! (sorry - I know - no bad language,) but..... I only just discovered that we ordinary mortals can start a thread and you beat me to the last one. However - I laughed out loud at the above quote from you. So, so true. Maybe I'll have to adopt Ernests when there is no more Marat to watch But hopefully - although no TGFR to comment on him - we will still see some good tennis up until Bercy. I was fortunate (or unfortunate ) enough to see him play so disheartenly in Bercy last year and felt that he would want to go. At least we all had one more year - even if it hasn't led to lots of wins. At least his humour is still there - some of his interviews have creased me up.

I am so sorry to see that the forum will be gone after the Open. I will be attending the entire two weeks, and if I am as lucky as in the past few years, I will have many a chance to see Mr. Safin. I'm not an autograph or picture (with celebrity) person, so I have never asked him for either in the past. I do however have something for him this year...sort of a retirement gift. I will have plenty of photos (new equipment this year,) and fear that I will not get to post them before the forum is gone. I never found the time to post last years pictures (maybe one or two if I remember correctly.) I will do my best to get any photos on-line before the site goes down, as I am hoping to get better pictures than last year. If I do not get the chance to post any before the closing (is there a specific date? ?) I will try to find somewhere for all to see. Any suggestions? Peace to all.
