Hello Dear TGRF Community:
I wanted to say my goodbyes to this wonderful site and show my gratitude to the people who kept it alive for so many years.
I was here when Ruth opened the site many years ago and like Annie, I have been a fan of Safin’s for almost a decade. In my wildest dreams back in Colombia I ever thought I would ever have the chance to see him play live, meet him and thank him for sharing his talent with the world.
Many things have happened since I saw him play the for the first time…I moved to another country, learned a new language, made a new life a career and many things in between; meanwhile I was always watching him. When he won, he got big, he got girls, he got long hair then he cut it back again, he broke his eyebrow with a racket, he got power, a very long tiebreak, two grand slams , and when he got defeated, injured…when he recovered and even when he didn’t even accomplish to walk straight again, I kept watching.
Through him I discovered tennis and other great athletes; I discovered hard work and hard partying…and a balance in between. He was not only my bed dream but also the dream on achieving something through strength, hard work and a little bit of luck. More than anything, I look up to him.
For him (through google) I discovered and the TGRF community, the site where I could come and share (drool too). I became “the Miami fan” (double lol). Like many others I met wonderful people here, from many places around the world we were brought together by one common character and that led us to construct wonderful friendships that I will always cherish. Many I have met in person and many others are on my to do list…to all of you Thanks so much for your company!
Some of you know I was going to the Ashville tournament that turned out to be a huge flop…I was decided that Miami earlier in the year was my goodbye…but the Ashville disappointment led me to take another chance and go to NYC for the US open. We’ll c what happens…It will be the final trip of the “Miami fan”.
I will miss you all.
PS: feel free to add me on facebook for pics of US open.

Guys,
Why do you all say good-bye already? C'mon, it's a couple of weeks actually left, isn't it?
But, if it's bye-bye time, I would like to say a few words too. Don’t mind me too much, cause I'm actually kind of liquored...
You are all wonderful fans and Safin was so lucky to have been supported by people like you, through the good times, the bad times and that variety of hairstyles.
The forum has been lovely. REALLY. Although I have so frequently bitched about so many things here, I do believe you all have made a great job and I’m afraid I’ve got to really respect your loyalty & dedication.
I hope you will be happy in your post-Safin life and that you will enjoy his last tourney. Maybe it will be a good one.
A true diva like Safin is forever prone to surprises and a fan's duty is to stand in by the end.
Reading you all has been both funny and touching. And as by now I’ve already made a fool of myself by starting crying, I congratulate you all one last time and wish you all the best.

Annie (or anyone I guess) I have been going through the site trying to save any pics, article, etc. that I don't already have and I was wondering if there is any way to recover some of the old pictures that do not show up any more. For example on the "pic with friends" thread almost everything is gone and I would love to see some of the older ones. Many thanks!!

Haven't posted much but always kept an eye on the board - i was lucky enough to meet some of the TGFR stalwarts at the Kremlin Cup last year - Hi girls for those that remember me !! if I win Lotto, I'd love to come back for Marat's final appearance - but as the chances of THAT are about as good as him replicating his run to the Final ....maybe not !! still, can't complain - I saw all his matches in Moscow last time out - and had just paid out a couple of thousand rubles to get in and see his semifinal about 5 minutes before Zvonerev withdrew LOL!.....was on a plane to Madrid during the Final... but can;t complain - I had my moments during the Australian Open this year... For those of you all meeting up in Bercy - I wish I was with you all in person but will be there in spirit at least, along with everyone else who can't make it - i am sure you'll leave Marat in no doubt as to how much he will be missed - if you happen to get to talk to him, Alex, Annie - PLEASE tell him inez in melbourne says "Privet!"- and remind him that "truth is stranger than fiction" so , along with the official thanks for the efforts made in running the board for so long, I guess it's a personal farewell to the site - and all the people who have posted their thoughts and feelings and shared the pain! I wish you all Good Luck for your futures, whatever they may hold - and I hope you'll all have a little memory to keep of MArat that will remind you now and again of whatever it was that drew you to him in the first place - and kept you following him through 'thick and thin" as we all have , in our own way!! that way, like TGFR, he may be gone - but NOT forgotten!

Hello everybody ! On the evening before Marat will start his last Grand Slam tournament, the US open 2009, and the very final tournament ever for this site, TGFR, I thought it would be nice for me to crawl out of my cave for some “bye-bye” words as well. Many, many years ago (nearing the decade border, LOL) a certain Russian tennis player appeared on my TV screen I was hooked …. not only by his presence (was too young to notice that back then LOL) , but mostly because his game and his charisma on court. I, and ofcourse all of you too, have been trough a lifetime of ups and downs with this man … aka the rollercoaster of the ATP (and I happen to be a fan of rollercoaster, how appropriate) … The gorgeous moments in his high peak of play, with the beautiful jumpy BH down-the-line, the target serves, the fighting spirit, but ofcourse also the not so very memorable moments of injuries and “low-peak” times ….. nonetheless, I’ve stick with the guy, cuz for Christ sake: he’s Marat Safin … The benefits of supporting Marat, was not only the up’s and down’s, of some I’ve witnessed on TV, some “live” , ofcourse also the very nice package which comes with … the curls, the pictures (some shirtless *devil*, some very intense ones during a match) the always entertaining press conferences, but also this site, of which I am a member since 2007 ( I didn’t dare to register myself earlier, but have been lurking way before that ) and brought me so many good things, I am grateful to Mr. Safin for that for the rest of my life! All the wonderful persons I’ve met trough this board, some in personal, other unfortunately only by email or MSN (but that always can change in the future) have lightened up my life, and I thought I have to thank some of them with this post! Lena (German), Lena (Moscow), Diane and all the moscow girls… it was wonderful to meet you! Denise and Hellan: though we’ve never met, I always loved the (email) contact we had, and hopefully we’ll keep it that way! The “old” and very devious/ trip worthy crew: Bia, Sonya, Nushy, Emma, Yse … we had some very, very nice moments, not only on this board *devil grin* Mary …. our fairy godmother … From the moment I first read one of your posts, girl… you rock!!!! You’ve always made me LOL behind my puter with your ever entertaining words. Too bad we never met in person, but my intentions are to change that one day! The 3 A’s : Annette, Alexandra and Annabel : the 3 of you surely stole my heart, and will stay in it forever … we’ve visited many tournaments together and I’m more than 100% sure we’ll stay in touch … I’ll keep you to the idea of at least visit one tournament (wherever), just to catch up and watch some beautiful tennis, without some stress. I will never forget the first time we’ve ever met … Annabel at the airport on our way to Hamburg for our first abroad tournament … it surely clicked, we started talking there and never stopped, LOL! And there, in Hamburg, at the very well known Reeperbahn, Alex and Annette stood there, we had a drink in the bar and the rest is history! And last, but certainly not least … my dearest and the most well known admin: Anna …. Girl …. YOU ROCK, and that gorgeous husband of you (well known as Mr. Annie) as well…. I love you to death, and you’ll always keep a special place in my heart! Unfortunately (you know the reason) I can’t come over to Moscow this year, but you ain’t got rid of me yet …. Will definitely see you (with most likely my + 1 ) in the spring! To those I haven’t mentioned … my sincere appologies, but I’m getting older, it’s getting later and my emotions while writing this are increasing …. Hope all of you have a wonderful life, be good, stay healthy and who knows, one day ….. Hugs and to all of you, Frens
