I have one thing to say: SO MUCH FOR OUR OPTEMISM. Looks like tha man didn't have enough [match] practice before the tournament. But I guess we should continue hoping for the best in the next tourney, huh? Oh this is just too f-king frustrating! GO MARAT Oh Vass, yeah, I know, so much for my positive vibes......... but PLEEASE, I try to be positive ... Heh, then again, I'm not Russian, what is it with the Russians - is it really like in a nature or smth??? OK, PLEEEEASE cheer up & change your avatar before leaving to Russia! He was playing so well at the end of the 1st & beginning of the 2nd set and then ....... What I saw the thing with the ankle wasn't that bad, he didn't sprain it badly, he called the doc just 'cause he was scared (after all his injuries) as he said at the press conf. later, he won the 4 following points on his serve before the doc came at the changeover, he said smth about getting it checked later but it should be OK. I like his press conf. answers, they're kind of encouraging! And I agree with Ruth's friend, except for the 1st serve % his tennis was really in good shape, good that he himself also sees it this way! He just needs some match practice now! The Russian commentator said he lacked conditioning & got tired in the 3rd, well, those who saw the match, what do you think, he said he had been working on his fitness and to me it seemed he was fit OK?

well, those who saw the match, what do you think, he said he had been working on his fitness and to me it seemed he was fit OK? Well, I don't know about his fitness coz he always tries to make the rallies short. That's why he's not running a lot and it's hard for me to judge if he's fit or not. But his shots looked good. He was just making errors when he shouldn't have. But that was in the first set. As I said I don't know what happened then.

Plus guys, you liked his black shirt? Black really is too hot to play in the sun I think. So I would go with the white!

I guess that errors on easy mements can be cause by two reasons: lack of practice and the mental thing. Dare to pick? PS: This is old news, but i don't like his lottery answer in the inetrview. Realy he should achnowlege that he didn't play his best. And the thing that I want to know the most is wheather he realy thinks of this stuff as a game of chance, or he, despite saying "lottery" in public, to himself think "ok, in this match I did this many of this type of errors". The first answer is dangerous. It's not a sporting approach. It's a losing combination. the second leads to victories. One thing is clear: he is not a perfectionist in any way.

Well, Vass, he said at the press conf. that he is like he is, we can't change his head so we'd better accept it and enjoy the flashes of brilliance that he is also showing! His tennis is AMAZING despite some really stupid errors! *remembering the moments from last night*

I guess that errors on easy mements can be cause by two reasons: lack of practice and the mental thing. Dare to pick? I would say there is a third reason which IMO is pretty possible: lack of patience. All the long rallies were won by Kiefer... When the rally was too long Marat was making an error.

Vass, it really was a very even match last night, like lottery, he lost the 1st point of the tie-break in the 3rd, had he won ....... He had chances on Kiefer's serves in the 3rd he didn't use, so this time I agree with him and the journalist who said that the match could have gone either way! And I liked his attitude, so different from some clay court tourneys and Wimby! Maybe I'm just forcedly optimistic but I agree with what Barry Cowan said (via Ruth)!

I noticed that too Magda, unfortunately! Patience is not his strength and never will be! And I think the lack of confidence after such a long break also was a factor together with the lack of patience in constructing the points. He didn't always know how to build the attack, plus Kiefer is at his peak right now so this all came together. I am not discouraged at the moment at all, based on the press conf. he isn't discouraged either so I hope he keeps the attitude and keeps on working, looks much better than the last tourneys on clay, not even mentioning Wimby!!!!!!! Arrrrrrgggggggg!

From Kiefer match Interview: I'm not fighting with myself. Oh, my God. That's how I am. You know, the story of the hippo? The hippo comes to the monkey and said, listen, I'm not a hippo. So, he paint himself like a zebra. He said but he's still a hippo. He said but look at you, you're painted like a zebra but you are a hippo. So then he goes, you know, like I want be a little parrot. So, he put the colours on him and he comes to the monkey and said but, sorry, you are a hippo. So, in the end, you know, he comes and said I'm happy to be a hippo. This is who I am. So, I have to be who I am and he's happy being a hippo. *ROTFL* Either Marat has just realised he's the latest incarnation of the Dalai Lama, or someone's been watching too much Sesame Street during his vacation Win or lose, no-one does interviews like Marat - he's priceless ;D Transcript of interview: canada.masters-series.com/1007/players/interviews/safin3.asp

When the rally was too long Marat was making an error. oh yes...the rallies were veeeeeeerrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy looonnng by marat standards and he kept rushing of course. geesh! there was only one rally i think where he really kept his cool and waited patiently for his chance. and he got the point!!!! so...learn from that please...marat as for the black shirt he looks good in it. i like the shirt, though as magda's said. it's kinda dumb to wear such a shirt in such weather.
