But why?? Its your constitutional right to express yourself, be objective and give your opinion. I totaly agree with you!A report must be objectif ...and for me who have never seen marat....it's a good means for me to have a right opinion about marat! So you can expres your feeling......don't try to shut up MariaV!LOL!

hi poundcat, olya,
please don't take it the wrong way. i don't think any of us are "shooting the messenger". we're really grateful to olya for reporting what she's seen of marat in toronto and all this talk and defense of marat (which i'll admit i'm guilty of) is just a natural thing that we tend to do whether the report be positive or negative. i'm sure u have been ard long enough to see that.
as for olya, i personally have nv met marat but i have read reports of him both in the positive and the negative in the past few years and it is unfortunate that u had to meet marat on the latter days. hopefully, u'll be able to catch the side of marat that beth's been seeing soon!!!
so.. thanks once again for ur reports olya, always enjoy reading them. have fun volunteering in toronto and hope to see u soon! ;D

Many of the responses to this report are a classic case of shooting the messanger. Olya reported what she saw in a factual way IMO. but many of the posts are a cricism of the reporter as if she were responsible for his what I consider Marat's crass behaviour. If I were at an event and was lucky enough to see/hear him first hand, I would be hesitant to share what I saw. Only one or 2 of the posts have said "thank you for the report, Olya." Not all of Marat's behaviour needs to be defended or excused, sometimes what he does is completely inappropriate and should be recognized as such. Maryann, it's unfair of you to say that Olya's reports have not been appreciated. Plenty of people have enjoyed reading them and given people plenty to discuss, and have said so. Politeness and acceptance have never been a problem on TGFR and Olya is more than welcome to post both her reports and her opinion, just as you are No-one is shooting the messenger either - People are entitled to voice their opinions here freely, and I've noticed nothing said with any malice or 'blame' aimed at Olya, so please don't (indirectly) stir up trouble with unfounded remarks like that. Her reports have been much appreciated and all fans are trying to do is understand/guess why Marat has been in a bad mood. Not one single person has personally 'blamed' Olya for Marat's behaviour or called her a liar etc. We totally believe she is being truthful, and in fact, many fans have stated that they too have seen/heard of Marat behaving like this before. But we also have to remember that many fans have met Marat and he has been totally charming and polite. He is quite capable of being obnoxious one minute, and Prince Charming the next - just like any human! You can't say he is always impolite, because that's simply not true - but nor can you say he's always good with his fans, because that isn't true either. The overall point has been that Marat's grouchiness is not a permanent thing. He's obviously having a rough time every so often in Toronto, so we are trying to figure out basic reasons as to why or what has caused this. Unfortunately, Olya has been eye-witness to his bad days, rather than his good days. Olya has been honest enough to report what she saw and kind enough to share it with all of us. It makes fans uncomfortable to hear Marat behaving so rudely, and it's natural that fans (especially those who have had good experiences when meeting him) will try to find some kind of justification for his bad behaviour. But that doesn't excuse what Marat has done and it doesn't mean that Olya's reports are untrue, or is she 'at fault', nor have I read any replies that would indicate fans 'blame' her for Marat's behaviour. Maryann, TGFR fans may not always be as knowledgable or sophisticated as your friends on safinator, but we're not barbarians either. ;)There's no right-or-wrong here, just honest opinions and open discussions. I also want to reassure you that I would be the first person to stop any kind of public crucifixtion on the board. If fans want to continue discussing Olya or Beth's reports, that's fine, it's what the board is here for! Lets just make sure we maintain the respect and keep an open mind. Disagreement doesn't need to become an argument ;D Olya >> As I said, your reports have been enjoyed and you are very welcome here. I know you're not trying to cause trouble with your reports, you've just been honest about what you saw and that's the best part Sometimes we forget Marat is not a saint I hope you enjoy the rest of your work at Toronto, and hopefully Marat will show you more of his good side, because I think you've seen enough of his bad side already *lol*

Well guys, I read some of the replies and I have to admit I'm really surprised at how level headed some of you are =). I know some pretty obsessive fans who defend their loved one with all their might (through the inet).
Today I watched Marat's match from 2nd row. Yes, the entire match. I cannot believe he lost.
Let's begin with the crowd, I'd say most were cheering for him. A girl about 10 rows from me was the loudest screaming "c'mon Marat you can do it! That's the way! Keep the pressure!" and so forth...
He swore a few times, but other than that it was a pretty calm storm =)
When he was changing his shirt, a girl screamed "TAKE IT OFF MARAT". Pple laughed.
One time he served and hit it like a meter away from the box, and the umpire said "Fault". Marat: "you sure?" Again, everyone laughed.
I think his anger/temper is why he lost. He played amazingly well, and his strength is greater than Keifer's. His serve , his backhand...wow.
I later saw the interview w/ him, and I thought he was going to cry. He handeled himself pretty well, like usual I guess, he answered well, smiled. Was very calm. Still...I know this may sound like I'm being standoffish, but Russian pple all have smth alike in them, and I could see that inside he wanted cry (or bang the wall).
Anyway, he was amazing to watch. I watched Roddick's match a few hours later, not even close to being as entertaining.
I saw Marat get into the car and be driven off the premises...*sigh
He's probably gonna leave soon, there's nothing to do in Toronto.
I'll post pics when I develop them.
P.S. I don't know who he was practising w/, I think the guy was blonde...Hewitt maybe? Dunno...my attention was all on him =)))))

Olya, thanks for the report. But are you realy sure that he played amazing? Because when he plays amazing he wins, unless Kiefer played even more amazing... One thing I want to know most is the amount of unforced errors. I think that's one of the best indicators in judging Marat's matches.
LOL
