Thanks for the report Olya! Wow, I don't know what to say . I'm really surprised with Marat . But like Teresa said, I hope he was just in a bad mood... But on the other hand it doesn't give him the right to be rude Yes you have totaly right!IT's the first time that I hear that MArat is like that... My brother was in Roland Garros and he said me that Marat is a very cool guy......... I don't understand........pffff ...perhaps he was not happy because it's the end of this vacation!!!LOL!

Unfortunately, I can imagine Marat doing that...when he has a bad day, it's a MAJOR bad day and everyone bears the brunt of it. In fact, I've seen him like that, but fortunately, it usually doesn't last long. Normally it's a sign that his tennis isn't going well, and everyone is going to suffer until it goes right I know it sounds weird, but you can't take it personally - everyone will be on the receiving end of his remarks until he cheers up. And we all know what a perfectionsit he can be! He just gets irritated with himself and it spills over onto everyone around....not mature, but it's the way Marat is. It's just a shame he can be so rude. Amit & Allon used to try and calm him down and keep him in check but they don't seem to be there Poor Peter........... Marat is also like that after/during an argument....I remember my mate Vee saw him arguing with Denis G and he was like that for the rest of the day..... But Beth's report is much more encouraging Sounds like Marat has gotten over whatever was making him so grouchy and he's getting into the swing of things, so lets hope that continues! Thanks for the updates Olya! (can i put them on the website?) Don't worry too much - unfortunately, you've seen Marat being human - we all know he can have a bad temper - but stick around and I'm sure you'll see the side of Marat that we all know and love ; he can't hide that side of himself for long

Oh yeah people please, let's not act surprized and judge him harshly now based on that one training session, he is not usually like this and everyone has bad moments sometimes. I just hope he'll be concentrated and in good mood when the matches begin! *Sending positive vibes to Marat!!!!!!!* I totally agree, i don't think it's all that big a deal! BTW Maria, nice to see you being positive again! your holliday must have done you good! ;D ow and Olya thank you very much for your report

I guess it was a realy bad day. From what I understood he was in a realy bad mood. All the timesthat I'vee seen him he was always talkling to players and answered their questions. Plus on safinator Christine told us that he didn't give someone an autograph saying "you are too old". I can see him being in a good mood and saying it, but giving the autograph anyway, but not just going away.
Olya>>> Was he angry when he was swearing, or in bad mood. Becuase you can always tell when he's swearing on purpose and when it's just what I call "background swearing".

Wow, that makes Marat seem like a total jerk, but then again I know where he's coming from because I myself am a very competitive person and if I'm losing my attitude is horrible. ;D

i wouldn't be surprised. we've seen how sulky marat can be on court and off...and sometimes even in the interview room so.,.. plus, like someone has mentioned (sorry, can't remember who) everyone has their off days... it's just that it appears worse when it's marat cos he's a celebrity and constantly in the limelight with ppl listening to what he says and does. if it were me throwing a tantrum like that no one would care so.... he's only human afterall!

Sorry I couldn't reply yesterday, the Agassi/Haas match ended at like 10 pm as it is...I had to get home.
Well, I'm really surprised about you people defending him. I don't agree with it at all....and yes, I know how some Russian people swear constantly and it's not "meant to be rude", rather it's not meant to be extremely harsh, but it was completely idiotic. Almost nobody spoke Russian, so nobody understood.
He acts like one of those "cool guys" you see in school that think they're big shots, while really , compared to the rest they're not so great.
About Marat being the sweetest player, I'd have to disagree. Agassi was AMAZING to his fans, and his humble ways are very friendly.
The doubles match w/ Marat was not played yesterday. However today I'll try to snap some shots of him playing Kiefer.
Btw yesterday I saw Marat , and he was the exact same way. Fans were complaining, and later on in the day my coordinator said he heard "Safin was grumpy this morning". (My coordinater is a super nice guy, so "grumpy" is an understatement)
I can't imagine what it's like to have everyone follow you around and snap pics all the time, maybe that's what got to him. It brought his self esteem way up there, and he's showing it in such ways... I don't know what caused this , bad tennis, end of vacation, bla bla...but that's the way he is. I don't really care if some Russian pple swear all the time, I think it's really unprofessional and disrespectful. He knew there were at least 5 Russians watching him, w/ children.
Andreev really is very nice, it was a pleasure watching him yesterday. He's great. I took some pics, I'll scan them in after they're developed.

Olya, you're entitled to your opinion but about Agassi I must say he's not that sweet & humble when he looses AT ALL!!!!!!!!! He was throwing rackets and swearing and spitting when he lost to Haas in LA 2 weeks ago and on his previous losses this year! OK, I just had to say it! He's no different than Marat or most of other players! I just wonder why Marat is still so "grumpy", i.e. in such a bad mood. Anyone saw how he was during the doubles match yesterday?

The doubles match w/ Marat was not played yesterday What do you mean, u did not get to see it? Cause they won the first set and lost the 2nd two so lost the match. Russian ppl are not the only ones to swear all the time, we here man and woman alike swear all the time and so do just about every professional sports person, personally I do not think it is disrespectful. Frankly a swear word here or there can really emphasis a point, drive a point home, or really make it verrry clear what one is trying to say, or how one really feels. As for ppl w/children......well they should have gone else where.....maybe where they could find someone practising who was not swearing. He's Russian, Russian is his first language so it would make sense that he would swear in Russian, but then again if really wanted to go all out he could have sworn in Spanish, English, French and prob Hebrew Its your prerogative to think of Marat as unprofessional and disresfectul, I respect that, but it is also mine and maybe others to defend if we see fit, likewise you can disagree with the defense but don't really see how you find it surprising. Marat is one of the sweetest players. It is a known fact that Marat hates to practise. And this 'manner' at times on the practise court maybe what gets him thru the practise. I know I hate gym and say so constantly along with swear words how much I hate it when I am working out, but always feel good after. Maybe Marat is like that. I don't think we should be so judgemental. I hope one day you get to experience Marat's humble ways (because he is very humble) very friendly manner and truly sweet nature Could be, but you know the saying, 'you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time' He's human human and under tremendous pressure to succeed in Toronto, we also don't know what other pressures he is under, we just have to either try to understand, or move on to someone thats more easy to understand I guess. Thank you Olya, even if we (meaning me) agree to disagree on Marat's personality, I really appreciate your reports, there is nothing wrong with an objective view. BTW who did you see Marat practising with yesterday?
