from maratsafin.com :
19.08.05 Unfortunately Marat has had to decline the Wild Card to New Haven. He is feeling very tired and realises that maybe he needs to slow down his return to tennis and not run before he can walk! He is going straight to New York and will work on his knee and getting himself fit for the US Open. Whatever happens he will try to do his best - he is hungry to play tennis and be at his best again.

24.08.05 Marat News The mystery has been solved! Marat has always worn inner soles in his trainers but back before Roland Garros when he was practising in Valencia for the clay season, the inner soles bust and it was two weeks before he got new ones and during this time he played without them. From that moment on he had problems with his knee. So now he has new inner soles which are higher on the heel therefore putting less pressure on the knee. As with basketball players, he is wearing a protective strip under his knee. He now has all the support needed to help during actual work on the tennis court particularly on his serve which is the area he was finding particularly difficult.
Thursday 25.08.05 Marat will do a photoshoot for Adidas in New York.

[glow=red,2,300]25.08.05 Marat News Marat had a good practice yesterday with a lot less pain so it would seem the new inner soles are solving the problem. Marat has seen the draw but as he has frequently said - he doesn't look ahead - just takes each game as it comes. [/glow]

28.08.05 Marat News Marat is ok. He has suffered some pain but it is not serious. Marat is not practising today Sunday but wll practice Monday. He is continuing physio and gym work and working with the doctor. Marat has requested a Wednesday start and he should hear the answer tonight. Although the schedule is not yet announced for Monday, it would appear from adverts for Agassi playing the 1st night session on Monday that US Open will be starting with the bottom half of the draw. This means that Marat should then play Tuesday at least and may have a chance of getting that Wednesday start. Despite all the speculation, Marat is determined he will play. Do not write him off.

from maratsafin.com :
28.08.05 Regrettably we have to announce that Marat is withdrawing from the US Open. Although Marat wanted more than anything to play and has tried whatever he could to be ready, as a professional tennis player he has had to admit that his body is saying it is too soon. So he has made the decision after discussions with all those around him. He is not depressed because he realises this is the right thing to do. He will return to Italy to continue treatment at the Isokinetic and ensure that his knee is fully recovered. His one regret is that he is disappointing his fans who wanted to see him play. It is not known how long he will be out but we will keep you informed. This time he will make sure he does not rush into returning. Marat still wants to play his tennis and he will be back. As his fans he needs your support more than ever. Peace
For all those who might feel that we were giving the wrong impression, please note this was because Marat himself was saying he was fine. Marat has to make his own decisions and we have to abide by them. As with if anyone is ill, the medical people always tell you "He'll be fine!" We were always hopeful but in the end one's body is the one that makes the final decision.

from maratsafin.com :
09.09.05 Marat Update Marat had his consultation with Dr Lohrer on Monday in Frankfurt and his first session of treatment. He then went to Moscow to attend the funeral on Wednesday 07/09 of his friend Leonid Nureshenko who died tragically on Saturday in a motorbike accident. Understandably Marat was very upset by the death of his friend and as he has been away from home so much lately, felt he wanted to stay near to family and friends. It has been established that the same treatment is available in Moscow so Marat is happy that he can stay at home and continue his treatment. The course covers 5 hours a day of Physio, shockwave treatment, gym and massage and will last 5 weeks. Therefore it is anticipated that all being well, Marat will be fit for the Japan Open in Tokyo on 3rd October. We will keep you informed of developments. This is a very hard time for Marat dealing with the death of a close friend and his injury and knowing he has so many points to defend. So keep him in your thoughts - he needs all the love and support of his fans to help him through this difficult time.
