from the OS 30 July 2008 Marat News: Marat is fine. As can happen with all players, Monday's match was simply a bad day at the office and Marat has continued to practice in Cincinnati with his coach Hernan Gumy. There are no current injuries. Marat will go to Los Angeles on Thursday 31 July with his coach to prepare for his next tournament at the Countrywide Classic. During Toronto, friend and coach of David Ferrer, Javier Piles, was helping out with Marat while Hernan Gumy returned home to visit his family and catch up with his new baby. His schedule for the rest of the year after US Open will include Davis Cup and the Asian and European tournaments. Marat's intention is still to aim to be in the Top 20 of the Rankings List by the end of the year. He is currently at No. 38.

From the OS:
«15 August 2008 Marat News Marat pulled a muscle in his neck in the 1st game of the match against Fognini but continued hoping after treatment it would be ok. It wasn't and so he withdrew after he lost the 1st set 5.7. Marat has spent the last 3 days in Washington receiving treatment on his neck and it is feeling a lot easier but will continue resting before starting extensive practicing again. He is going to Vermont this weekend to do some fishing (one of his favourite other sports to relax) and then will travel to New York on Sunday to start practicing for the US Open.»

If he needs any flies, I can tie them for him ... went on an evening course for fly tying years ago. Have got all the kit. ;D Great source of amusement for my colleagues at the time - I once had the metalwork guys chuck a tin fish on the grass when I was out in the college car park practising my casting technique. Gits. Needless to say, I couldn't land it!

BREAKING NEWS FROM OS!
Europe 12.09.08 Marat News Marat will not be going to Argentina for Davis Cup. He needs to keep getting points before the end of the year and he felt the trip from Buenos Aires to Bangkok would be very long and tiring and could make it difficult for him to play well in Bangkok in order to get points. He talked to Shamil Tarpischev and asked to be released from the team for Davis Cup which Tarpischev agreed to. Whilst in Moscow Marat has been practising with Yevgeny Kafelnikov. Hernan Gumy will fly to Moscow early next week and then he and Marat will fly to Bangkok on Sunday 21st September. Marat's thoughts will be with the Russian team and he wishes them all the best of luck and to play well and win.
