It's on a clay court with the team most likely being Marat, Misha, kolya and Iggy Andreev

Tennis-Russia at full strength for Davis Cup quarter-final Thu Mar 27, 2008 6:43pm GMT Email | Print | Share| Single Page| Recommend (0) [-] Text [+] MOSCOW, March 27 (Reuters) - Last year's losing finalists Russia will be at full strength for next month's Davis Cup quarter-final against the Czech Republic in Moscow.
Russia captain Shamil Tarpishchev said on Thursday he had kept faith with the team that beat Serbia 3-2 last month, recalling former world number one Marat Safin, world number four Nikolay Davydenko, 11th-ranked Mikhail Youzhny and Dmitry Tursunov (35).
Tarpishchev also called up clay-court specialist Igor Andreev for the April 11-13 tie on clay at the Luzhniki arena.
"We have five top-class players and, provided they are all healthy, I always try to rely on everyone," Tarpishchev told Reuters.
"I can change the line-up a day before the draw, so we'll see who is in better shape by then."
Russia, the 2006 champions, are hoping to win back the trophy after losing to the United States 4-1 last year.

Like everyone I am disappointed Marat is not on initial list, but to be fair to Tarpy he has to go with strongest team and he has not been shy of saying that Marat is good in DC so there is a chance that he may do a switch at the 11th hour - he is master tactician after all and we don't know how the others will be nearer the time.
My slight concern if Marat doesn't play is that it might affect his chance of Wildcard for Monte Carlo - see extract from a press release on the Principality of Monaco site
"Gustavo Kuerten’s comeback to Monaco While three wild cards for Monte Carlo will be presented after the Davis Cup at the beginning of April, Zeljko Franuolovic has also announced that the Tournament’s Organising Committee would like to pay tribute to the former world champion, Gustavo Kuerten, who announced his withdrawal from competition, by offering him the first invitation. "
It would be great if Marat got one of the three WCs - great crowd puller and Monte Carlo resident etc - but if he doesn't play DC he might get overlooked. Hope not

Davis Cup has nothing to do with WC for Monte Carlo. They just just mean that the decision will be made the week next to DC.

Tarpischev said Marat is not competely excluded from the squad. He is training hard and everyone knows how well Marat can play during DC, even if it's just for one match. So the possibility of him playing during DC weekend still exists

I think in reality it should be known that Marat is our best doubles player and the only point we struggle for is the doubles - i reckon he will be included just to try and get this point.
Teams can be changed until the draw so there's still a chance
But nonetheless just to be back home and practising with the boys im sure will cheer him up!

Thanks Guys - I wasn't sure about the Monte Carlo wildcards - you have all made me much more hopeful. I agree about Dimarat in doubles - they were brilliant last year when they won their tournament title.
Love the idea of them all meeting up to practise and also play footie together - thye seem to get on so well as a team. I'm sure that's their real strength, that they all work for each other and support whoever is playing.

I guess Dimarat is not an option for this tie anyway unless one of the other three players is not ready to play for some reason.

Well...see Spain's team for example..Fernando Verdasco (r 30) has been chosen instead of Juan Carlos Ferrero (r. 23), whom,in my oppinion is a better player. If Tarpischev includes Marat in the squad, therefore he has to take someone out, right?who can that be? Because Davydenko and Igor are in great shape...and...

It's hard you know.. I mean, if DiMarat are going to play, it probably means the other two have to be in perfect shape during that weekend. If DiMarat play it is most likely that Davydenko/Youhzny and maby Andreev will play all four singles right?? I personally think (but I don't hope so..) that he will not take the risc of single players not being fully fit. Ooh gosh, I don't know. Forget it.. I don't know where this comment leads to anymore haha!
