Okay as promised better late then never My Holiday Report from the Big Apple - New York.
Tuesday Okay normally a holiday report should start from the place i visited but i wont because we got lucky on the day we went. Me, my sister and My cousing got dirt cheap flights £60. But upon arrival at the airport we were informed that due to some passengers being absent from the flight we were offered first class seats!!!!!!!!If your gonna travel - travel in first class. I have never been pampered before and the British Airways crew were charming to a little boy. OK the flight was perect but arrival was terrible!!!! The que to enter the airport were huge - we wasted 2 hours of our time waiting around - JFK is a poorly organised airport and for me personally it got worse. I was interrogated by security officials in a seperate room - most likely because of my name. I was asked ridiculous questions like Am i part of Al-qaeda or the taliban? Have i ever shot a gun? Have i been to Saudi Arabia/Pakistan?- What do they expect me to say. YES! Every stupid question you can think off - they asked me but i got let off. We arrive at the Edison Hotel (located in Times Square) at night due to late delays in out flight and transportation - so we soaked up the atmosphere for the first night in TImes Square - got a bite to eat and went sleep - Early Thursday Morning.Oh yeah saw Jessia Simpson in the flesh she was on MTV TRL and met Mary j Blige and her producer- stayed in our hotel. but left the next day!
Wednesday My family have a policiy that when we go places - we make the most of it - so we had a room call for 7AM every morning and by the time we were ready it was 8:30. Today we decided to check out Times Square fully - it's amazing - Times Square is the true meaning of hussle and Bussle - always packed and people on the move 24:7. Loads of big names shops....duh it is New York but something that puzzled me was that there was ferris wheel inside the Toys R Us. Me and my cousin got to go on although we were clearly not allowed - since we weare nearly 10 years over the age limit - but to be fair i was only 6 years off the age limit! Before we left England i made it a priority we visit Flushing Meadows - although i was the only 1 who wanted to go - both non tennis fans. I could'nt take any pics as we did'nt take the digital camera on Wednesday for some reason but i will cherish the memory that i have stood where tennis greats have stood! i got a look round the whole area - the Arthur Ashe stadium is the best court in Tennis! Sorry centre court at Wimbledon but it's true. We chilled out at the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows and looked around Queens before heading back to Soho - we we got a bite to eat and walked round the nice buildings before heading back to our hotel in the early hours of Friday
Thursday Again early start -Started the day in Battery Park - really lovely area, really beautiful place. today we went to Staten Island and of course that means the Statue of Liberty - the boat ride to it was horrible it poured down with rain and the seas were raging - i was scared. We were not allowed to climb to the top of the statue but we saw it - which is all that mattered. We spent all morning in Staten Island, it was pretty dissapointing walking around the town before heading back to Manhattan. But then we were on the move from Manhattan and spent the afternoon in Brooklyn - again not alot to show for but that was ticked off our list! The Brooklyn/Manhattan bridges are something though - architecturly great and the buzz i got from crossing the bridge and seeing the picture of the Buildings in New York will stick in my head till the day i die. Beautiful. It again was pretty late and we got a bit tired so we stopped at a different hotel and had a nap in the lounge before we made it back to Times Square at about 3PM Friday. It's only now i reallise that the W hotel is where some of the players are staying during the weeks of the US Open. British TV also gave an interview with TIm Henman on the roof of our hotel. Who knows he may be sleeping in the same bed i kinda slept in - did'nt get a bit of sleep to excited throught the week
Friday Today was sightseeing day! I conquered my fear of heights - yes i have a phobia of heights! I went on top of the Empire State Building, i never knew it cost $16. People what's that all about. I never got any pics because my face looked like i was shitting it! Which i was! My sister who has a degree in Business Management wanted to visit Wall Street - her pilgrimage/ She also was banking on finding a rich man who she could marry but i'm protective over my sister and she will have to wait another day. Went to the United Nations building - place where the US Open draw took place - great building. We saw many government buildings - boring and last but not least the most humbling place to visit was Ground Zero - it's hard to believe the twin towers stood there - it is a dignified place - loads of walls full of names of the dead and heroes- people still talk about the conspiracies about 9/11-i'll leave that for another time and place - it was humble place to be - really sent a shiver down my spine about how lucky i am that i still have my family and friends while many people dont. It brought me down to earth. I was a bit quiet as we head back to Times Square but all my cartoon friends where in action - Spiderman, Batman, Hulk and many more. LOL i never knew Spongebob Square pants was a women - she remembered me taking a pic when she had her Spongebob suit on and said to me - i'm Spongebob!
Saturday This day was dedicated to my sister - whose idea it was to take me to New York after completing my exams. We basically spent the whole day on 5th Avenue. For people who dont know this avenue this is shopping heaven! We spent the whole day shopping. I treated my sister as much as i could but she earns way more than me and spent over £2000 in designer shops alone and £600 in Victoria's Secret alone. Me being a boy suprisingly enjoyed shopping all day and never got bored at all - i was trying on suit's in Gucci for fun before i brought a suit from Louis Vitton for £200 and loads of stuff from Lacoste, Nike, Prada and many more stores!. This was an even better day as me and my cousin got to spend the day out and about with the people in New York - mostly they were the opposite sex to us! Met some nice people - not saying much but getting them back to my hotel room did'nt work not because of me but my sister was in my room aswell.Maybe next time. It so hard being 16 when to do all the fun stuff you have to be 21 - dont worry New York i'll be back in 5 years . At night, as our last meal we eat at Planet Hollywood, nice setting and nice food. We were in Times Square till 4PM soaking in the atmosphere - without a doubt you cant beat the atmosphere in New York . We even went on a Limo Ride round Times square for free - the drivers were real friendly they were waiting for somebody but he says a quick ride wont hurt and it was amazing.
Sunday This was our last day - i could have cried all today but there was one thing we had to do, see Central Park! Amazing how much stuff we done in the time we was in New York. We had a relaxing morning because it was Sunday and it was fairly quiet in Times Square. Today was a beautiful day and to top it off we had a picnic in Central Park. IT was picture perfect - i did'nt want it any other way - my closest family all having a great time - we talked and talked before remembring we have a flight to catch back home! So we had catch the Taxi to the airport and check out - just for fun i left the Hotel room in a state only to be confronted by the cleaner saying that i done it on purpose - how dare he accuse of doing such a thing! It serves him right for knocking on our door in the middle of the night saying he left his belongings in our cupboard and wanting a tip for his work. I had 2 words for him at that time! Anyway we made our way to the airport - the market on Times Square on Sunday is really cool - which we could have spent more time there but could'nt. The drive to the airport was fun met some tourists from Russia (some place called Moskovskaya or something i wrote it down) and Canada. Our flight was due to leave at 8PM but we left at 11PM due to the traffic on the runway and because British passenger have to check in from the British Airways terminal we had to be there 3 hours before hand - so we spent in 6 hours in the duty free - when we could have done so much more.
Just for the record the people were friendly and nice, weather was great, transport is fine and the food is as normal - except China Town great food! Loads of TV and movie crews round New York - so if u wanna be on TV easy come to New York.
Basically this long boring essay is what i got up to in New York. Sorry if you turned your computer off but i hope anyone who read it enjoyed it!
