Alya, thanks for the info. BTW, it´s from the same director of Sin City and it´s about the battle of Thermopylae between Persians and Spartans, if I´m not wrong...., so I expect a lot of blood and violence..., not some of my faves things to watch in a movie, but I´m really looking forward to this one. Only the artistic and photographic design seems to worth a ticket. EDIT: BTW, there´s a huge buzz about it, if it was not released yet. I guess there have been several early screenings and that´s where all the comments and critics are coming from EDIT2: trailers here www.rottentomatoes.com/m/300/trailers.php if someone is interested

The Oscars are coming up this weekend and while one can argue (and rightfully so) about the importance of this award in the light of rather dubious nomination practices, this year witnesses the nomination of an actor who deserves the Oscar for an absolutely stellar performance: Forest Whitaker in "The last king of Scotland".
The movie tells the story of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin through the eyes of his (fictional) Scottish doctor. I watched the film a few weeks ago and wasn't able to get the imagery out of my head ever since. The movie is poetic and funny at times but also cruel, dark, and extremely violent - definitely not for the faint-hearted. While "Blood Diamond" tries to mix Hollywood action with some moral conscience, this film "cuts the crap" and shows Africa in its most desperate and yet hopeful state. But above all it's a tour de force by Forest Whitaker - I promise you won't forget his character. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Santaolalla won for best music for the 2 nd year I didn´t watch Babel, but will try to do it this week. I was told the music is really beautiful. I loved what he did in Brokeback Mountain. BTW, I´m sure we´ll be able to watch "The lives of others" in cinemas after this Looking forward to it.

Oh yeah for the first time I agree with the oscars, I liked Degeneres for the hosting of the show, and also all the winners. Usually I go like "wth?" but this year all the films were good. Scorsese- he trully has a funny voice this guy, I mean If I were an actress and he will be directing me I would totally laugh all day! he deserved it finally and I think departed was one of the greatest plot I've ever watched
The girl from dream girls was voted off early in American idol, she never made it close and Simon told her she was hideous and what not! The you go cowell "see u don't know whack!"
I liked babel but I though that giving the Oscar for a movie that have the same characteristics that crash had last year would never get it in a row. I liked the movie but I knew it was not going to win the best movie
I loved little miss sunshine, the little movie that could! I think its great to have an independent film that actually works. I think this years Oscars were very very outstanding.

I loved Ellen Degeneres too. She was the most elegant presence in there! But I got to say, this idea about presenting parallel stories in movies is really getting old: Babel, Crash, Paris Je t'aime. They each have a special something, but the technique itself is overused.

I don’t like girly movies, no romantic or comedy movies for me. I love strange movies or movies where you have to think about. These are one of my favorite movies: - Trainspotting: great music en atmosphere. - Donnie Darko: this movie is very hard to understand, and I still don’t know what really happened. But it is still a good movie. - The movies of Quentin Tarantino: that guy is a genius - Memento, Traffic, Scarface, the godfather trilogy, fight club.
A few weeks ago I saw Pan’s Labyrinth and The prestige, those are good movies too. Pan’s labyrinth has won a few Oscar’s too. It’s a fantasy/war movie and looks very beautiful.

Just saw "300" yesterday. Graphically and visually it's amazing but I was a little bit disappointed with the story. It's not that I was expecting an "oscar winning" argument, but it could be a little less filled with cliches but still, all in all it was good entertainment

They each have a special something, but the technique itself is overused. It does seem to be 'in' now to use that, but it was started being used a long time ago. I think it´s a efficient script 'technique' to transmit the idea fragmentation of different languages, situations, social issues globalization (and post modernism) creates. I don´t remember now exactly, but I think that Paris Je t'aime was not about parallel stories, but about different stories that that started and ended before the other started.... (I fell asleep with Crash and watched 20 minutes of Babel and didn´t particularly enjoy it, so I don´t know about those). Watched all of them except Pan’s Labyrinth and The prestige, which I´ll watch on a rainy day Just saw "300" yesterday. Graphically and visually it's amazing but I was a little bit disappointed with the story. It's not that I was expecting an "oscar winning" argument, but it could be a little less filled with cliches but still, all in all it was good entertainment Yeah, I had the impression that would happen, after all the hyped it recieved.... i watched requim for a dream!! it is a bit sick and depressing but an excellant film!! its a bit like trainspotting but even more harrowing and graphic!!! its got jennifer conelly and jared leto in as a bunch of drug addicts!!! i think some of u will enjoy it!!! I watched it, one time. I liked it, but no intentions to watch it again ever again. It´s a 'tough' film, but if you want to see something really, really sick watch Korean movie Oldboy. Great, great movie though. I´m going through a period of Asian movies (to name it somehow..., they are too many genders and the industry in Asia is huge). They are great!! Much better scripts than anything written in Hollywood (and most of the times, stunning, visually speaking). Too bad it´s not that easy to find many of them. But just old, classic Akira Kurosawa makes it worth it.
