really? In Poland when you study English at uni you can become a teacher or translator (but not a journalist), yep same thing in France. i study law, private law in particular. I've been studying English and American law for more than 4 years in addition to French law. i've just finished my 5th year of univeristy, which i think corresponds to a master if we talk about the european standard for degrees (3 years after high school graduation it's the bachelor degree i think, then 2 yrs later it's the master, and 2 yrs later it's the PhD.... right?.... sorry if i'm wrong but the french diplomas were quite different, and it's only from newt month that they're going to be like most of european diplomas... Elisabeth, if you're going to university you know what i mean: i guess you've heard about 'la réforme LMD' ) Anyway, i'm not gonna do a PhD. Now i'll try to pass the exam that would allow me to enter the lawyers school, which will last for 2 years. But i had difficulties to study this summer i have to admit it.... so not sure what will happen next month for the exam. Elisabeth>>congrats for you baccalauréat Magda>> fingers crossed for your answer from college sweetie!!!

Well I just found out last week that I passed my Leaving Cert exams (the last exams you do when you leave secondary school in Ireland) so just this morning I got excepted into college, I'll be studying law. And I'll be moving away so in two weeks I'll probably only be able to visit the mb about once a week.

Congrats to all those who have successfully passed their exams and fingers crossed to those still waiting for the results. OK, if you wanna know, I studied the Russian language and literature & pedagogics at the uni (5 yrs), so now I work as a teacher and a translator. I tell you working life is no fun, I think it's quite boring and tiring and irritating sometimes so I'm not gonna bore you with the details any more, and you'll get your fair share of working life soon enough! I hope now you understand why I'm not that eager to translate on my free time but I try to do my best for our Marat's sake (and yours)!

I just passed the baccalaureat and got into...(here goes nuthin'.. )... the Academy for Economical Studies (International Relations section) which is what I wanted. But, I tell U, man, it was so damn hard to decide, because I have so many hobbies and stuff... I have gone through the following stages: architecture (which I haven't totally given up on...), law school ( I got over that fast because of the state of our legislative system... HORRIBLE... UNFAIR....COMPLICATED ), art school (meaning painting or photography, it's been a huge hobby of mine since I was eight or nine and I haven't given up on it either...), philosophy and literature ( I've decided to just stick to reading as much as I can... you have to compromise many of your opinions and feelings and "adopt" other people's opinions if U want to be noticed... That, or U have to be REALLY, REALLY talented... which I'm not, I admit it ). These I've really considered, but of course, there's also: archeologist, detective ( I'm very serious.. ;D) all of which are based on subjects which interest me... and here's how I ended up with Economical Studies: I've always wanted to do somethig constructive, that I like and I'm good at, something that doesn't go unnoticed at a larger scale if I work really, really hard ( it sounds very, very, VERY corny, I know, but I'd like to be able to see the effects of my work in some way... ) . All this combined with the fact that none of fields (of expertise..??) above get you anywhere in my country resulted in my final decision. I studied my a** off the entire year ( mostly at math because the entry exams are the most difficult in the country at this subject) and I got in. I have to say that I'm very happy about it, although I know it's not all it's cracked up to be (the Academy, I mean...), but it has the best reputation and the most fierce competition (at getting in). So that's it... we'll see. Like I said, I haven't given up on some of my other options ( I hate compromising ). By the way... Congrats to everybody who passed their exams and good luck to those that are still waiting and hoping *sending tones of positive vibes* P.S. I just saw how much I wrote... man, I have a big mouth even when I'm writing/typing Sorry for the long, LOOOOONG post To Myke>>> Social Work... errrmmm that means working with people, helping them and things like that, right?? If you're a people person and know stuff about social problems you can try diplomacy. You can be an ambassador or something; you get to deal with people and try to solve problems and it's a bit more edgy.... LOL ( you know, ambassadors don't just cut ribbons and make appearances at political events... they're both diplomats and good politicians and are very much involved with social and economical problems). It's just a suggestion, but I do hope you find something you like

I guess it's always hard to decide what to study, cos it affects ur future. A lot of people choose a study and don't even end up working in it. When I was a freshman in uni I did management, economics and law. I could have passe dthe first year, but I hated it so I dropped out. A friend of mine didn't really like it either, but continued. A year ago she got her degree, but she doesn't wanna do anything with it. SO Myke if u really don't like it, don't do it, it's just a waste of time. Try and find out what area of work you would like and then find a study to go with it. And maybe job hopping for a year wouldn't be to bad, to find out.
I choose a new study with the same ignorance I choose the first one, luckily it turned out very well and I wanna get in a job in that area. By the way Communication can be fun, it's what I studied and it's not just how to talk to people. A full communication study is about communicating a message to a target group and how to do that, marketing, advertising, copywriting, journalism, it's very diverse.
But even if u wanna work in ur area of study it can be hard. Cos I would love to be in advertising, or international communication (my major) for a big brand, but I'd also liek to do something in journalisme. Only discovered in teh last 6 months of my study that I really like writing. I had to write a thesis and thought it was a great challenge to turn something very boring to something that people would enjoy reading.
Ok long story, but I guess not everyone finds something that they would wanna do for the rest of their lives, so it's best to choose something a bit broad, so you can change after a few years.

Myke>>>> thats what I would do That's what I think I feel like doing most right now. My parents will have a heartattack when I tell them... Wow, well that's something I had never thought of! ;D Thanks for the enlightenment. I'm really hearing all kinds of options I never even knew existed But ambassador... things would get really messy with me as an ambassador SO Myke if u really don't like it, don't do it, it's just a waste of time. Try and find out what area of work you would like and then find a study to go with it. And maybe job hopping for a year wouldn't be to bad, to find out. That's my thought exactly. I can fool myself and continue, but I am pretty sure that I won't search for a job in this field. And I did a 4 year study before this one, which was a "lower" level study. But with the study I'm doing now, you get the same jobs and the same salary. So looking at that, it's a bit of a waste paying for this study for 3 years, when it doesn't really make a difference. So, I think I'll quit and try and do something completely different. Thought about doing a administrive study for 1 year. It's 4 years in 1 basicly. So, after one year I would have another degree. Never bad. But, still I'm not sure. AAAARGH!!!

Man, you do have a lot of hobby's and interests! Great that you know what things you really like. But indeed, too bad that compromising is necessary. But good you got into this Academy with all the competition. Congratz!!
