Just wanted to say thank you to Ily for the photo montage. I wish it could have been a better ending for Marat but after reading his interview, I reckon it's time and he seems keen to move on to bigger and better things! He will be sorely missed thats for sure! I think I will do a proper goodbye in the other thread lol. ps: hey Dina!! hope you are well sweetie!

I was ever hopeful . So I set up the lap top and dozed off, sleeping with one eye open. After cruising midway thru the first set, I mistakenly, I don't know why I should know better after all these years, thought that he would cruise thru the whole match. I woke to find different. I don't think it has set in that he won't be in another GS , but it has set in that I wont' see him live/on tv [other than sport updates] EVER again. So, serious thought is being put into going to Bangkok, Moscow or St Petersburg. I am still hoping for my fairytale, go out on a high, tournament win!

Same here...actually saw most of the first set on Foxtel here in Aus - was scared by how good he was in the first set....I think I remember hearing the words "near flawless" uttered,,,(GULP...) because we know what happens after a 'near flawless' spell..I tried to go to bed but of course...sleep was far away so I logged on and found a livestream...and shivered in the cold Melbourne night as the thing unfolded with a horrible inevitability.... Watching his presser filled me with conflicting emotions..a kind of sadness tempered by the fact that he is clearly SO, SO ready to move on with his life - yeah, he's scared - because he is leaving EVERYTHING he has ever known, the world that has formed him from boy to man - behind - and the future is uncertain.....welcome to the 'real' world, Marat...he may be cushioned on a small fortune, but as we all know, money can be won and lost in an instant and of itself does not bring contentment.... he may not need to 'worry' financially, and he has worked and sacrificed and has earned that luxery after all - Marat's challenge now is to find himself a place in the world that will satisfy him...and that is a challenge we all must face in our lives - so I wish him good fortune, health and whatever he thinks he's going to substitute 'happiness' with ( on account of the fact that he says happiness doesn't exist... ) I thought his casual mention of the fact that he was apparently about to go to college in the States when his tennis career took off was quite interesting - maybe he'll be a 'mature student'.....I'm sure he would love the student life - he did once say that when he met someone who didn't know him, he would tell them he was a student because it was more interesting than what he REALLY did! ;D - and he's actually at the perfect age to go 'back' to school..... And I think Nole may have got himself crossed off Marat's Christmas card list by blowing his future plans to the press - watch out for Marat playing in an Exhibition tourney in Argentina in December then meeting up with friends to climb Mount Aconcagua in the Argentine Andes in January.....one thing is for sure, you want to avoid being the cause of that left eyebrow raising... ;D Like everyone here...I am going to miss him - good, bad - but never ugly....!!!!! God - what a ramble - what I REALLY meant to say was, avalon, I don't know if you have already been there, but I would say, go to Moscow - I had such a blast at the KC last year - but Saint Petersburg is fantastic as well .....god, decisions decisions - I'm still paying my credit card bill a year on, but not a moment of regret - so - don't give yourself the chance to look back with regret - if you can possibly do it - GET THERE!!! and good luck!! ;D

After month and months of silence, now I can't shut up...I found the last few minutes of this video quite moving - with all the journos bidding farewll to MArat - like they can hardly bear to let him go as well... it's clearly not just amoung his supporters and fans that he'll be missed...and I thought it quit touching that the USO site actually kept those moments after his presser was over actually in the vid...a kind of farewell of their own, almost....

Yesterday was pretty uneventful sensations wise apart from the women's field where Dinara had a hell of a hard time but managed to win anyway, which unfortunately I cannot say about Lena Dementieva who is out of the tourney But she has noone to blame but herself, it was a disaster Jankovic is out too Ana Ivanovic announced she is taking a break from tennis straight after she lost her first round USO match Misha Youzhny lost to Chiudinelli, which was a bit of a too. Today's OOP www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/schedule/index.html?promo=topnavRafa - Kiefer, Murray, Tsonga, Williams sisters all in action today

Marat is loved Q. Obviously Marat finished his last Grand Slam today. Have you been able to talk to him today? What are your thoughts on that? ROGER FEDERER: No, I didn't see him today. But sure it's sad that his last slam is over. I wish he could have stuck around for more rounds than just one. You know, his career is not over yet. I hope he's going to play the rest of the season. He's so much fun to watch. I practiced a lot with him. I played him in big matches before, so it's always nice watching him play. Q. Marat came in here and basically lectured us and said, Okay, come on, guys. I got to protect my sister. Ranking is ranking. Leave her alone. Make her happy, come on. What does it mean to you that he's doing that? He's looking out for you? DINARA SAFINA: Well, he's my big brother. You know, he can talk here. He can sit and talk to you guys, like leave me alone. I'm No. 1 in the world. Q. Who is more popular in Russia now, you or your brother? DINARA SAFINA: My brother. By the girls so far. I mean, how many girls there are in Russia? (laughter.)

The end of presser was so warm. The journalists seem so fond of him! What a touching moment.
