Clay season starts for serious in the principalities!. ;D ;D
Although it is a 1000 tournament there are some absences in the top 50 - Roger was one but took a wildcard.

As for Marat, expectations are that he can continue his ball striking from Miami and can keep up with the demand of playing on clay this week!

Fed said (at the beginning-ish of the year?) that he wasn't going to have MC on his re-configured clay court schedule, so he wasn't in the entry list at its deadline -- hence needing a WC to be a part of the field ... it was weird to me too when I first just saw the headline

You were probably used to see Marat's name in accapting a wild card in stead of Fedex's

My thoughts on the draw are LMAO - Once again Marat is gonna have to fight from point one however.
I am very much looking forward to Marat v Lleyton as them 2 and Roger and Roddick - led the charge in the early millenium and will be remembered in the game.

H2H IS 7-6 Lleyton but they are 1-1 on clay but havent played on clay since 2002

Just a thought to ponder tho - Lleyton is currently in Houston and has made the SF (plays Korolev tonite) so i expect tthis match to be played on Tuesday evening possibly.
Also if Hewitt is to win Houston - Although he will be confident, he wont be completely comfortable with the courts, will be physically tired so i do believe Marat has a good chance of winning this match!

I thought the same about Hewitt not arriving but the fact that he was given a WC, him not arriving i dont think would go down to well with the organisers. Anyway after a tournament win i think anything he done in Monte Carlo would be a bonus for him and im sure he would fancy his chances against Marat!

Ok my Big Pixie, if Lleyton shows up, flatten him for me. He's never been high on my list of favourite people ... and you're playing doubles! Well done.

I will even give up several hours in the garden to watch the match live ... 9 hours heavy labour out there today. I can't feel my back or right buttock again ... sore fairy all over. And it's to be sunny again tomorrow. I'm doomed.

Would love to see Marat do well - fingers crossed that Hewitt is tired and unused to the surface - or just that Marat plays the game we all know he can. Some toughies in this quarter of the draw though!

Love the idea of Marat and Igor in doubles. Hope they do well - But Feli and Nando could be tough opponents too. Lots of Spanish flying around between the four of them no doubt.

Also I think I'm possibly one of the ones referred to as liking a certain fragile young Frenchman called Gasquet. He almost has more injuries and is more of a headcase than Marat!!! at times - but on his day has a beautiful game. MC won't be the same without him.

And to win I have to say my money is prob on Rafa again - but it would be nice to see him and Marat square off if Marat can hang in there.
