Damn, the boys lost the first set on a tiebreaker ... and they were 5-2 up on games. Hope the Big Yin is doing well sliding around the net. ;D FG PS Good to see his hair is growing back. I've still got more hair on my legs though ... PPS Vleigen certianly knows how to break a racquet. LMAO.

Must admit there is not one match that slightly interests me at all tomorrow! Thought the same thing, but sometimes the seemingly uninteresting matches turn out to be the most entertaining. Cilic - Cipolla was mostly fun because they kept showing Marat in the stands playing with his cell phone. That apparently was more interesting than Cilic kicking some serious a**. TennisTV.com then switched over to Ljubicic-Vliegen and that was a killer match! Momentum kept switching back and forth. Ljubo had match point in set 2, then Vliegen came back and led 4-2 in the third set. Ljubicic somehow turned the match around and Vliegen got so mad, he actually broke his racket in half!!! I've never seen that before I must admit! The grip was in his hand, the head was lying on the court. Wow! Didn't help him, he lost... Safin/Andreev are doing a good job defeating themselves. Igor produced a Double fault on set point and they subsequently lost the first set in the tie break. Tomorrow's match should be fun, I'm looking forward to it. Even though it's kinda depressing to see a former final match-up played out in round 1. Ditto - Saw Kunitsyn blow a double break in the final set then save 6 MP which was thrilling against Chela. Melzer was hillarious as he didnt give a damn and it was a race for him to see how quick he could lose Agree with Ljubo and Kristof 3rd set was really interesting as was the final set of Schwank and Gicquel. Funny how these things pan out. The serious business starts tomorrow tho Marat and Igor lost 6-7 4-6 Winner of Marat-Hewitt will play Nicolas Lapentti who beat Radek in 3 sets!

Can anyone comment about how Marat played in the doubles today? Could we dare hope for the good form he showed in Miami??

Well, they are on court now. The commentators talked sooo much about Lleyton arriving at 2 pm today (!!!!) and how many flight delays he had to endure, etc. that it sounds like it would be a miracle if Hewitt won, considered he didn't even have time to properly warm up. We'll see. Crazy how Lleyton juuuuust barely made it to Monte Carlo -- talk about your travel headaches -- does make for an interesting story though -- and he's a trouper for getting out there and playing As for the rest of the day, the underdogs made an impression. Simon, Robredo, Monfils, Almagro, and Berdych are already out of the tourney! Only Novak, Andy and the 2 Davids lived up to their role as favorites. Yeah, sections of my bracket challenge went up in total smoke today

Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Marat has kicked off his clay court season with a victory 6-4 7-5 Again amazed at Lleyton arriving 2/3 hours before Kick Off - Amazing - I know they had a word about that at the end! It was also nice to see the mutual respect they had for each other. As for th game - i missed the most of the 1st set due to a stupid power cut- somebody couldve warned me But seemed Marat's ball striking was good, he also did use his head as the knew each other games so well - some good anticipation and backhand down the lines by Marat. It was refreshing to see in my opinion that Marat looked like he was hussling at the back of the baseline - trying to chase down the balls, and it worked some shots were Hewitt made the error!. But a nice vidtory for Marat and some nice Aces on the serve too! ;D ;D Next up for Marat is Nicolas Lappenti - A vintage clay court player. Lappenti played well to beat Radek on Monday and beat Misha Youzhny in the qualies so is in good real good touch Marat leads H2H 1-0 with a victory over Nicolas in Barcelona 9 years ago on the clay 7-6 7-5 They may play tomorrow or Thursday on Court de Princes most likely!

Great win for Marat (even though Lleyon was not at his best under the circimstances)! I thought he looked really focused and together out there today. I kept thinking when he had the match points on Hewitt's serve what happened in the exact same circumstance in Miami. Thank goodness there was no repeat!! Anyway, thank you to the tennis channel for letting me see the whole match on a big screen in my living room! Vamos Marat!!

Lovely solid ball play my Big Pixie! ;D Nice to see the focus employed so well ... although you did give me a heart seizure at 15-30 5-5. Don't rush! You kept the head today, and it paid off big time - the ball hitting was pretty superb in a lot of points, and you dominated most of the rallies. Very composed - you'll be giving Maestro pointers soon! Well done, very, very nice win ... go get your pasta ... and hopefully it's cheaper/tastier than at Wimbles. ;D Big fairy hug and sloppy kiss winging its way to you. FG PS Maybe I shouldn't shave my legs ... might be bringing the Big Yin luck. By the weekend, we could both be looking like gorillas. ;D
