Indeed KUDOS to Verdasco for believing he could do it and not begrudging the fight. I loved the hug Nadal gave him in the end It was probably the best match of this AO. amazing, incredible points from both. I bet the Maestro was grinning thinking whoever was going to get to the final would be exhausted after such a marathon.

What an amazing match - Fernando i take my trouser off to you - to fight and fight with the raging bull for over 5 hours is commendable but Rafa has done it again. And Annie its all working out for Mr Fedex - a tired Nadal maybe wont be able to keep Fed from equalling the Grand Slam Record. As for Dinara - girl you have to play lights out tennis as Serena tends to go up a level in Grand Slam finals - but in Dinara we have faith. Now for something sweet - remember Laura Robson from Wimbledon (Junior girl who asked Marat to go the ball with!) Well she is in the final of the Australian Open and she has revealed that she in fact got a birthday card from Marat himself this week- saying happy B-day, good luck and all the best - so he has not forgotten - Marat you little darling

WOW!!! what an incredible match! the best by far of the AO. Big props to Verdasco, he played amazingly well! Like you said Annette, the quality was constant. Whenever you thought that was the point of the match, another one would be even better! Awesome match to watch!! ;D Roger must be sooooo happy to see it go past the 5hr mark lol. I am so glad Rafa won but that is the first time I saw him look worried and maybe a bit tired! It was funny that the commentators were constantly comparing it to Roger and Marat's semifinal in 05. Women's finals I shall wake up bright and early, even though I am shattered and its a Saturday! Hopefully Dina can pull it off and win an AO title like her big bro (who should really be there! ) DAVAI!!! As for the men's I am backing Roger all the way, mainly because he beat Marat and Andy lol. Hopefully Rafa can recover a little so that we can have another epic battle between the two best players in the world!

Rafa - Verdasco -- now THAT was a Semi!!! (Who would have thought?) Wowee, what a match - and Winner City! ;D 5 hours, 14 minutes, Rafa comes through 67 64 76 67 64 ... but HUGE kudos to Verdasco for keeping up with Rafa for that long, that close (and hitting 95 winners! ) Second that, jen!! What a semi!! I was so impressed by Verdasco's performance, actually cheering for him! BRAVO to two players with the extraordinary match, yet too bad that there can be only one winner.

Hats off to both guys, incredible. ;D Always a shame that there has to be a loser, but a loser only in one sense. Verdasco just wouldn't give in, and really went the distance on this one. Sweet to see Rafa give a heartfelt hug at the end. Both guys must be knackered. Much to Maestro's relief ... but Rafa will bounce back after a day's rest. Maestro won't be relying on any lack of fitness there. My heart says 'go Maestro, match that record ... and get another one in the bag this year for good measure' (not Wimbles though, I'm keeping that one for my Big Pixie!) Will be up early tomorrow to hopefully see wee sis flatten Big Serena. Go for it Dinara! Don't get nervous, it's just another match ...

My, my what an incredible match. Haven't seen such a good one in a very very long time!! Probably since Nadal-Federer at Wimbledon! VERDASCO ! I was really surprised by his level of play today, I mean obviously you have to be good in some way to reach a GS semifinal but I never expected this good as I only saw bits and pieces of his other matches. I think Nadal was the mental stronger one with more experience in the end... and of course the nerves. Great GREAT match. True entertainment . Tomorrow 9.30 my time Women's final.. Very excited and obviously hope for Dina to win but we'll see. It's a head game after all... Good Luck!

well Dina looked like a completely different player today and not in a good way! she lost 0-6 3-6. was the most one sided match i have seen in a while! good thing i didnt wake up to see it live (i overslept - i am NOT a morning person lol). serena demolished her, and dina looked completely shell shocked at the end but she should defo take the positives from this. she reached the final which is her best result and now she knows exactly what she needs to work on! well done DIna hopefully tomorrow's match will be better - COME ON ROGER!!! ;D

OMG! What an unbelievable finale! AGAIN! Heartbreaking speech from Federer.. I seriously had to cry myself. It is so good to see those two players playing against each other. They have so much respect for each other! I'm still stunnend! Poor Roger.. I feel for him, really.

Oh Maestro, you've broke my heart. Watching the awards ceremony was so upsetting, I just wanted to wrap my arms round him and fly him out of the stadium. I've only just stopped crying. Bless Rafa for going over and putting his arm round him. So sweet. Maestro will need many, many cuddles tonight - take care of the boy Mirka. He needs to get another 2 Slams in the bag. Wonderful display from both of them, and so many lovely rallies. Although Maestro, I would make the comment I make to my Big Pixie so often, why didn't you come in more? You played to Rafa's hitting zone. It would be bittersweet if Maestro won the French this year ... wonder what the fairy dust mix will be for that ...

Oh.My.Goodness. That was an incredible match. I was rooting for Rafa...i wanted him to win. And i am still happy he won. But, by golly, it broke my heart when Roger cried. I felt like i wanna give him a hug. I remember when he used to cry when he loses all those years ago before he started winning all the time... ;'(

All i can say is HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW .......................................... did Roger make me cry oops i mean Rafa win that match LOL An amazing match - first 4 sets of brilliant sets and who would have thought in the fifith set it would be Roger that would get tired. That match i dont believe was won on tennis but Rafa's mentality and competing - it seemed Roger didnt know what to but over the 2 weeks Rafa had been the man and 6 grand slams to this phonemonal monster of a human. As for Fedex, will he ever break that record! My faith is wilting but what i am sure of is that he will be fighting like hell to get back to the top, French Open maybe not but Wimbledon! I must admit i did shed a tear for him at the end - i never expected that to come and the Melbourne crowd done themselves proud - amazing response. Oh well the AO is over for us at the tgfr - doubt we will ever ever open a AO thread in Marat's section !

And as for his tears in the end... In the beginning I was touched. Aw, poor Roger. But when he kept crying and crying, spoiling the moment for everyone else (especially the champion!) I must admit I was annoyed. Sure, he didn't win and it must've been a bummer, but come on, man! You won13 Grand Slams, you have achieved pretty much everything in this sports - get a grip!!! Rafa didn't dare to even smile; the post-ceremony pictures will no doubt be rather bleak. LMAO ;D ;D ;D I still feel sorry for him though, I mean that must have really hurt! he looked devastated. And I am sad that he didnt win But those photos will not be something worth looking at lol. Big props to Rafa though, he played 10 hours of tennis in 48 hours, that is just superhuman! I still think his semis with Verdasco was better than the final. Well AO is over and looking forward to the next tournie and the return of Marat!

I guess I'll be the party pooper again - today's final didn't impress me There were glimpses of brilliance and some really good exchanges, but mostly I saw a tired Rafa who somehow hung in there for more than 4 hours, and a Roger making unbelievably stupid errors, having forgotten to bring his first serve with him on court. Admittedly, I didn't see the whole thing (I got tired in-between and took a break) but I doubt I missed much. Absolutely TRUE!!!! I thought the same! come on! it's not easy to lose nobody likes losing indeed...but you man don't cry rivers becoz u just missed a 14th title against the same guy again! and poor Rafa...he doesn't even get to be happy nor smile after winning his first AO! sincerely Roger makes his own misery and if he feels like crying he shouldn't make SUCH a scene in public! you can be under emotion but you don't cry that muc!self-control man! and didn't really like the match either that much! friday's one was the worthiest one for me in term of quality this year!
