my shift starts soon so I'll be quick! He certainly didn't play his best, actually it was far away from that! but again I expected it personnally because he just can't pull it off in Moscow whoever he plays in the final! that was one! Two: let's say he still has three tournys left, he might be able to prove everyone wrong (it depends on whom and what!) and well finish his season, hoping to be seaded for Melbourne... I just think it wasn't REALLY the best place for him to reach a final because he just can't make it over there; but hopefully the + attitude is to be held....and hopefully no rackets or phone will be broken on his compartment in the lockers! ps: everytime a certain person shows up; he plays(not his best) and makes me lose it! a person who brings bad luck; he must get rid of that person!

I wonder what he said at the ceremony. I am sure he'd look cool and still kept his sense of humor.
But what does he feel deep in his heart? Hope he doesn't feel frustrated to yet another failed attempt!!

Some thoughts have bothered me. Throughout this whole tourney, Marat's level of game has really been like a roller coaster. The final is extraordinarily heart breaking becuz he was so close to an ending of title drought just a while ago yet it seems very far now. I hope he smashes another cell phone. Let go of it, Big Yin! (while sitting on the bench listening to Iggy's on-court itw, Marat's eyes.....red and something rolling.. .....Maybe I think too much. ) He seemed to play at the level where his opponent was at. I am sure he didn't do it deliberately, but somehow he must have been mesmerized (or whatever mysterious cause) to accommodate them. Playing a 500 sth player, he played like crap which made you think he had slim chance to beat Benneteau and even he luckily did there was no way he could be of any threat to Kolya. So we kinda anticipated nothing further. Yet at quarter-final, he turned to another player showing he deserves to be top 10 and I started to dream big again. In the final, he played accordingly like a guy who struggled so hard to enter top 50. No matter what, I still love you. As long as you can bring me your brill game from time to time, I am more than content. of course, a couple more titles will always be welcome. Good luck on Madrid, St. Petersburg and Bercy!! Fingers crossed you will be seeded in Melbourne 2009 and celebrate your 29th birthday there!!!!!!

Completely agree...it seems that's why he would nearly lose against Benneteau then beat Davydenko - so frustrating.. Looks like we have to count on him performing only in St Petersburg and Bercy...

Well it is a shame he couldn't make it title number 16. I just hope he wont be too frustrated . He did make it into the final and beat koyla so we can take the positives from it. Kunitsyn sees off Safin for title
Igor Kunitsyn ended fellow Russian Marat Safin's hopes of a first title in three years with victory in the Kremlin Cup final on Sunday.
Safin went into the Moscow final ranked 31 places higher at 40 in the world and with a 3-0 head-to-head record.
But Kunitsyn came through 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 for his first ATP title.
Safin was looking for his first tournament win since the Australian Open in 2005, having lost to another Russian, Nikolay Davydenko, in Moscow two years ago.
Kunitsyn took a tight first set in 66 minutes and broke midway through the second set, but Safin recovered to force a decider.
However, it was Kunitsyn who made the decisive break for a 4-2 lead in the third set and saw out victory in two hours 49 minutes.
"Everybody knows Marat is better than me but today I'm the winner," said Kunitsyn.
"It's terrific to win my first title in front of my home fans and I hope I would be able to defend it here next year."
Safin said: "I was chasing him all the time. I could not capitalise on my chances but he converted every time he had a chance and didn't make many mistakes.
"There's no surprise he won."

Mary, there you go again! What an insight. LMAO!! Justsafin, it was a serious point, don't mock. I am heartbroken that they were not prancing around for the boy's delectation. Perhaps, if he'd seen them scurrying around the court, he would have been inspired to a straight sets victory! He has a furry slipper fetish ... as his fg, I am in the know. We will however never know the power that those slippers possessed. Think she'll wear them in Madrid? ;D Might be a bit hot though ... Still a good run for the boy. What's his ranking now?

! a furry slipper fetish...?!!
I think his ranking is now 34...but he'll lose a few points I guess due to his withdrawal from Madrid. Hope he makes up for it in St Petersburg...

Mary, your posts always made my day, although I just found out he is not in the draw for Madrid. Shoulder problem...that's why he double faulted so many times today? I only want him to be healthy and happy.

I can understand him cancelling Madrid - his energy and motivation levels must be drained to complete Zero. Shoulder injury might be true or not, who knows. The point is, withdrawals without medical reason are very costly... Very true. I feel even sadder after reading this. Reminds me of Haas' withdrawals after an unfortunate loss at US open. Just checked Haas' ranking..65....How hard he had worked to come back and after all these efforts... Rest at home and forget it, Marat!! Some screencaps at the ceremony.

Perhaps the real reason is related to the had polemic because the organization of the Master Madrid did not give a WC to Juan Carlos Ferrero, whereas they gave it to Safin and to Fognini, in return of a favor that they did to Tiriac in the Master of Rome
