2009 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas draw complete The 2009 draw produced two stand-out ties as USA was drawn to face Switzerland and Spain was given a home tie against Serbia. USA will host Switzerland, for whom Roger Federer has announced he will play in the 2009 first round, at home - a tie which could feature four Top 10 players, the No. 1 ranked doubles team and the Olympic men's doubles champions. (*whistle* of course Fed chooses '09 to play first round DC *gulp*) Switzerland won its World Group play-off tie last weekend against Belgium to return to the World Group after relegation last year. The other highlight of the first round could see Rafael Nadal face Novak Djokovic as 2008 finalists Spain got a home tie against Serbia. Spain's opponents in this year's final Argentina were also given a home tie against Netherlands, who returned to the World Group after coming though the play-offs, while Russia, who lost narrowly to the South Americans last weekend, will travel to Romania. The two other newly-promoted nations, Croatia and Chile were darwn against each other with Croatia having home advantage. The remaining ties see France travel to Czech Republic, Sweden host Israel in a repeat of their first round thriller this year and Germany at home to Austria. The draw, which took place at BNP Paribas's offices in the Spanish capital, also included the draws for Zonal Groups I and II. First round ties to be played on 6-8 March '09.

All we know is that the matches will be played in Bucharest, in the Romexpo arenas. They still haven't decided if to play on clay or hard. The Romanians say that clay would fit them better, because Romania has pretty good clay players (Andreev lost to Hanescu this year).
They don't say anything new on the Romanian Tennis Federation's site..so i guess we'll have to wait a few more months for more information.

Marat Safin..............is included in the team but without Russian no1 or 2 Kolya and Andreev
Team Marat Safin Dmitry Tursunov Mikhail Youzhny Teimuraz Gabashvilli
I believe Safin and Youzhny will be the singles player for the tie!
Tennis-Davydenko to miss Russia's Davis Cup tie in Romania Russia's top player Nikolay Davydenko will miss next month's Davis Cup first-round tie against Romania, team captain Shamil Tarpishchev said on Thursday.
"He's not yet fully fit," Tarpishchev said of the world number five, who returned to tour last week after being sidelined for almost two months with a foot injury.
"Hopefully, he'll be available for the next round if we get through."
Tarpishchev called up world number 26 Marat Safin, 29th-ranked Dmitry Tursunov, Teimuraz Gabashvili (60) and Mikhail Youzhny (62) for the March 6-8 tie in Sibiu, Romania.
Russia, who won the last of their two Davis Cup titles in 2006, lost to Argentina in last year's semi-finals.

anybody got tickets?
I'm going insane. This is my last chance to ever watch Marat play, and the FRT and Sala Transilvania arseholes can't even answer a f$#%^$#$%$ phone. Does anybody know if we can order the tickets online or..buy them from other cities?
Poor organizing..very poor!

If you get BBC coverage of GB tie, look out for Dendy and I ... in the presidential box apparently (Saturday) ... LMAO. We'll be in Braehead all weekend anyway in a VIP box supporting team GB - minus Andy, of course. We'll be selling the ice-cream. Kiddin'. A perk of the job. The only perk ... LOL. I've been waving my LTA guest passes at everyone in work for the last few days ... they hate me now. ;D Tomorrow I'm going round the arena for a walkabout. Think I will kiss the court for luck. FG PS You'll recognise me instantly. Hair like the Big Yin, pre-shave. And, as I always say, better looking. ;D LMAO.
