PS Taylor Dent is back on the tour? yeppers -- had a WC into another tourney a few weeks ago - although suffered a first round loss there, as he did today ... but at least he was able to go 3 sets both times, bless his heart (and his healed back)

I'm troubled that once again there is no obvious livestream for this Can't find a bloody thing anywhere obvious like betfair/365 etc...does anyone else have any suggestions? We're wilting over here in the UK through lack of live Marat action this site, i've found, offers live streaming for free. you just join. also, there's a fun chat room... unfortunately, because the early matches aren't being shown on TV anywhere, they will not be live streamed... once we reach Friday - the QF's, they will be streamed on this site. www.justin.tv/networks/slazengerhope this is helpful!! Go MARAT!!!!

from MTF smitty 8 about Marat's preparation www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=127866&page=28"I saw him today (well, yesterday, Monday evening)! As soon as I got there, I started looking around at practice courts and he was on one behind the Grandstand, where there are no bleachers, had to climb up to the top of the Grandstand bleachers (where I was lucky to find a spot, it filled up quick) and look down. Gumy caught me taking a photo, lol, I was trying to be sneaky at that time. Anyway, Marat really was working hard, looked very focused, doing all sorts of drills. No racket throwing or breaking that I saw, no yelling, just a lot of work. I was impressed. Talked with a few others who were also impressed at how hard he is working lately."

From atptennis.com: Elsewhere, Russian Igor Kunitsyn reached the second round with a hard fought 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-4 victory over Mischa Zverev. He goes on to face Italian Fabio Fognini, who won the first set against No. 6 seed Marat Safin 7-5 when the Russian retired with a neck injury. I hope it's not too serious.....Grrrrrrr

It seemed that Marat pulled out from doubles before singles match (from OS match forum) that something might have had bothered him. Never mind defending points......I just hope he stays healthy and hangs around. He looked quite fit in Cincy...

Safin succumbs to neck injury in Washington opener Tue Aug 12, 2008 8:34pm EDT WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Marat Safin's U.S. Open preparations suffered a setback when the former world number one was forced to retire from his first round match at the ATP event in Washington with a neck injury on Tuesday. The Russian sixth seed lost the first set of his match against Italian Fabio Fognini 7-5 and then decided to quit. Safin had looked in fine form when he surged into a 3-0 lead but after dropping his serve in the fifth game, the double grand slam winner requested an injury timeout to receive treatment on his neck. With his flexibility restricted and his service speed well down, Safin struggled for rhythm and was broken again in a protracted 11th game to give Fognini a 6-5 lead. The world number 82 held to love in the next game to take the set before Safin decided he was unfit to continue. Fognini will now play another Russian, Igor Kunitsyn, for a place in the quarter-finals while Safin will be hoping the injury recovers in time for the start of the U.S. Open on August 25." www.reuters.com/article/sportsNews/idUSSP8671220080813 Scary..... I hope he's ok.

another article - looks like he'll be ok for the US open - poor baby cant turn his neck.
By Simon Cambers
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Marat Safin's U.S. Open preparations suffered a setback when the former world number one was forced to retire from his first round match at the ATP event in Washington with a neck injury on Tuesday.
The Russian sixth seed lost the first set against Italian Fabio Fognini 7-5 and then decided to withdraw from the match.
"I just blocked it and I pulled a muscle," Safin told reporters, adding that he suffered the injury on the second point of the match.
"It was getting worse and worse. I should have stopped earlier. I thought it might get a bit better, but it didn't."
Safin said he would now rest and then go to New York to prepare for the U.S. Open, which begins on Aug 25.
"I need at least four to five days to be able to turn it. I should be OK (for the U.S. Open)," he said. "I can't do much about it. It's a pity but I have to deal with it."
Despite the injury, Safin had surged into a 3-0 lead but after dropping his serve in the fifth game, the double grand slam winner requested an injury timeout.
With his flexibility restricted and his service speed well down, Safin was broken again in a protracted 11th game to give Fognini a 6-5 lead.
