lost 6-4, 1-6, 2-6
I only watched the 2 last sets but Marat was playing very very bad, error after error, after error. Plus, Davydenko was playing very well, he deserved to win. Throwing rackets, error after error, Marat was so not focused...
Oh well =(

I,m really sad. I don't know what happened there but something is obviously wrong with Marat right now. I wonder what's his opinion, hope the interview will come up soon.

I think the main thing is that we should not expect miracles. I mean, apparently he has a lack of fittnes......and if it didn't come to light during Davis cup, now on clay is obvious Now I expect all so-called Marat fans to begin with the accusation of lack of desire or something, but I think that's the best we can see from Marat for now. I am concerned because I see how eager to come back is Marat himself. And the disappointment I read in his eyes is really making me sad. After all, I still have a felling that he will do something on clay this year.

Second seed Nikolay Davydenko defeats Russian compatriot Marat Safin 4-6 6-1 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the Estoril Open. Safin, who beat his 24-year-old friend twice already this year, couldn't overcome 63 unforced errors.
Safin started the match with promising hopes breaking Davydenko in the 9th game of the first set coming to the net often and hitting up to 66% of first serves in.
Claiming the first set sent Safin back to the old days, when he would slamed his racquet often after being frustrated by numerous unforced errors.
Safin lost his concentration a little, putting Davydenko back in the match.
Davydenko then scored 6 successive games breaking Safin three times, including once in the first game of the deciding set.
Despite breaking back to level at 1-1, Safin's game went from bad to worse. He finished the game with 63 unforced errors, including 54 in the last two sets.
Davydenko did a good job of putting the ball back in play one more time than Safin to force the error.
The second seed will next face the winner of the match between Gilles Muller and Nicolas Lapentti.

Wow, Marat really made me wanna shake him in set 2 and 3 today! He completely lost his concentration after a good start, building up Davydenko's self confidence in the process. I agree with Kuniochi that he still lacks a lot of his former fitness - compare a video from the beginning of 2005 to today, it's like watching two different players. It also seems, though, that he wants too much too fast - he appears overly ambitious rather than lacking determination if you ask me. Anyway, I'm sure he'll get back to form sooner or later (please let it be sooner...). As a reminder of better times I'll post a video of his victories over Davydenko and Moya in Indian Wells in the Video threat later on. Wish you all a good night.

Hi, everyone. Hope you're all ok.
I was at the game, and I'm sorry, but I have to say this: I'm very sad and frustrated with Safin, not because he's lost... but because of his attitude.
It was beeing a good match, between two great players... Marat won the first set, fare and square, and even on the second set, I actually thought that he had given up on that set, to attack the third, full strenght... He had the tennis to do so! The streght! The public, cheering for him! Davidenko broke him, he return the break, made his serve game... Everything was pointing out for an even more exciting game...
...and after some impossible-to-defend points from Davidenko... Safin lost it! Not once... not twice... More times that I could count, and each time it was worse that the other!
He had the public, me, my girlfriend cheering for the guy... and he ignored it! The public, at the end, was reacting very negativly to the constant raquet throws, ESPECIALLY when he broke his chair... And he didn't care! He, mentally, gave up the match! And couldn't care less about the crowd. He could have played and lost... but made a focused effort, if not for anything else, for the public that was with him.
For me, this type of things can only happen so often. This was way too much, to see this live, in my own country... Thank goodness there are so many other great players, and men, in the ATP circuit.
Take care, everyone... Sorry, but I had to express what I felt today.
PS: But to be honest, at least the guy was showed sportmanship towards Davidenko, at the end.
