Hi everyone,
my name is beth and a few of you oldies might remember me from Sergei's www.maratsafin.com message board awhile back. anyways, i have been so busy lately that it's been hard to get back into the message board thing, but i remember a lot of you guys, such as vass, dendy, ruth etc.
i am in toronto for the weekend and monday to watch the TMS ... don't know if anyone else is there, but it is so much fun! i went two years ago (skipped last year in montreal) in toronto, and it was fabulous. i sent match reports to sergei to put up on his site. anyways, i am back this year and i have seen marat a few times already... he is looking good with peter and walt...and looks to be training hard. on saturday, he was out twice (!!!) on the courts, each time for about an hour (two in total) with walt and peter. he was looking good, but he was totally getting harrassed by the fans. poor marat! i don't think he was in too good of a mood because he stopped to sign a few things, but mostly just wanted to get away. after the first practice, he seemed sort of peeved, not sure about what, but he was curt, not the usual friendly marat. after the second practice, he was almost pushing the crowd as he was trying so hard to get out of there fast.
as some of you guys know, the grounds is all new this year, a whole new stadium. the layout is really interesting, but it's good in general. the fans get to see the players quite well (except for a practice court that is four courts long so that you can hardly see the player on the fourth court) and the players have excellent security and buggies for transportation.
marat's first practice was on the large practice court (four long) and many fans were there as a result, probably not his favourite thing. i forget who he was practicing with, but i don't think it was anyone huge.
marat's second practice was good, and i also forget who it was with... but henman and thomas johannsson came on after and there was a bit of an overlap when all four players were on the court at once. it was so funny, marat and tim were checking out each other's physiques and comparing. tim and marat lifted up their shirts to compare six-packs... and then tim was showing off his shapely legs. hehe! that was a riot for the crowd.
today, (sunday, kids day, lots of people) marat was out again ... although i only saw him once. maybe he was out again, but it's hard to tell. anyways, he was practicing with a young guy, (i think his name was joachim johannson from sweden) for an hour around 12-1. he was looking good and joking around with all the players (paradorn srichaphan and another player came on when marat's practice was winding down) and seemed to be in a really good mood. marat joked around with the crowd alot too, because they cheered for him during his practice (when he hit a good shot, everyone clapped) he stayed for quite a while afterwards signing and taking pictures! (i got a picture, that was really nice of him to do!!) i was hoping that nalbandian and marat would practice together, but it seems that they may not, unless it's really a lot later tonight (i left the grounds around 5ish, as it's qualies, and match play was over for the day). tonight is the players party.. hope marat doesn't party too much! hehe.. just kidding, i know he's training hard and taking care of himself. you can see it in his attitude (whew!).
tomorrow, marat and nalbandian play their dubs match, so i am hoping to see that. his singles match will be tuesday most likely... so let's hope that his singles match goes well (and short) and he get a good break tonight!

edited to say that i will try to ask walt or peter tomorrow if marat is going to be at sopot and what's the deal with that. i am so confused, but i hope they can give me the lowdown!
