SAFIN AND SHARAPOVA VOTED THE WORLD’S SEXIEST TENNIS PLAYERS
IN THE 2005 HOT LIST BY ACE MAGAZINE
It’s that time of year again for ACE magazine’s much anticipated Hot List to pick the sexiest players in the world. Russians Marat Safin and Maria Sharapova ran away with the votes to top the list as the hottest players on the circuit.
More than 50,000 votes were cast online to determine the final select list of ten. The finalists were then decided by a prestigious panel from fashion, fitness and beauty including Head of New Faces at Select Model Management, Sarah Leon; Glamour magazine Feature Editor, Rachel Pask and Channel 4 presenter Nicky Hambleton. Players needed to have been ranked in the top 100 at some point over the last 12 months to be eligible for the short list.
The competition was fierce, but having been described as the most marketable woman in the history of women’s sports, Sharapova was a sure thing. Sharapova says, “I want to thank ACE magazine and all of my fans that voted for me. Hopefully at the end of the year I will be No. 1 in the tennis rankings as well.”
Marat Safin has been the man in demand after ending Roger Federer’s winning streak at the Australian Open this year and going on to take the title. Being named sexiest player, Safin says: “I am very happy that ACE makes me their No. 1 Hot Man! But for now, it is important that I work hard on my game so they can also make me No.1 for my tennis.”
Previous winners of the ACE Hot List include Daniela Hantuchova, Anna Kournikova and James Blake. In its fifth year, the 2005 ACE Hot List was sponsored by Head. ACE Magazine has recently been named Best Sports Magazine in the UK at this year’s Sports Industry Awards.
The June issue of ACE magazine is in newsagents from 12th May 2005
