Marat Mikhailovich Safin was fairly impressive - i mean Gulbis was hit , miss and miss, was fairly erratic but Marat used his experience and knew all he had to do was get the ball in play and it was a comfortable victory. Serve was impressive and his groundstrokes were accurate, although FH still showed signs that it may let him down. I know this is unfair but seeing watching Fedex play i dont give many people a chance TBH. Up next baggy - if he plays well he will have a chance must return well and try to move baggy, bring him to the net. It's big match he can win if he plays well.
BUT WHAT A START!
ROCK ON MARAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great pic ;D Is there a video of this point? Congrats, Marat! Good luck against Baggy Yeah, I want to see a video of that too....That looks like a dangerous shot...i hope he didn't hit anything else but the tennis ball... ;D ;D Didn't get to watch his match... I saw Nole's, Lleyton's, Venus and Kuznetzova's matches but nothing of Marat's...

What a day yesterday was. My friend and i were watching the Bagdatis- Johansson match in Vodofone Arena when we decided to leave for a walk. lucky we did becuse we went outside to the practice court and saw Marat practicing with Gumy.Afterwards he signed some autographs and was complaining because people kept shoving stuff at him to be signed but he didnt have a pen all of a sudden everyone was trying to throw their pens at him.He signed a few more things and left. We watched some more people practice and some more matches then it was nearly time for Marat's match so we headed to Showcourt 2. There was a big line up to get in, it was packed at every entrance so my friend and i found the shortest one and lined up. we finally got in 2 games before the end of the Bartoli- Arvidsson match. 15 minutes after Gulbis walked out to a few cheers ( wearing this eww fluro green shirt ;D) then Marat followed ( wearing all white with embroided black adidas logos and black shoes with white lines on them) to the whole Showcourt cheering for him. It was a great match actually, Gulbis steadily improved but not enough to beat Marat. 6-0 6-4 7-6. Marat was quite calm and only yelled once but still impressed the crowd by catching balls on his racquet and throwing his raquet up into the air and catching it. Gulbis on the other hand you could tell was frustrated and hit some balls with so much force they went out into the crowd. Marat deserved to win and hopefully this continues right throughout the open. We also saw some of or all of these other matches: Anna Chekvahdatze - Andrea Petrovic - this game went for all of 4 minutes as Petrovic injured her knee at duce in the first game and had to retire. Marcos Bagdatis- Thomas Johansson Ana Ivanovic- Sorana Cirstea Marion Bartoli- Sofia Arvidsson Sam Querry- Olivier Rochus Xavier Malisse- Dmitry Tursunov ;D Vincent Spadea-Radek Stepanek We also saw the following people practise: Justine Henin Rafael Nadal Jelena Jankovic Maria Sharapova Lleyton Hewitt Amelie Mauresmo Ivo Karlovic Sam Stouser Alicia Molik Nicole Pratt Jarmilla Gjardisova (Spelling?) Andy Roddick ad of Course Marat Safin ;D All in all a good day.

Then the journalist noted how packed the court was and how many people were there supporting Marat. He said it makes him very happy that despite his ranking people still come to watch him, it gives him extra confidence. Then the journalist goes: "At some point we couldn't even get to the court. We came half way through the match and tried to come and watch but there were no seats and we were not allowed in". Marat goes, "next time come earlier to secure your seat" LMAO ;D Hehehe, he didn't get a seat because of me! I raced from work to court 2 and had to line up. The place was packed and they weren't letting anyone in. My friends weren't permitted to save a seat for me [understandable] so I stood in line. After the first 2 games the guy let me in and it turned out there wasn't a spare seat. So he let me sit in the press seats!! There were only about 3 press sitting the rest were like me, Marat fans and one Gulbis fan ;D ;D ;D ;D

Found this in today's MX paper Not Diego's Day Fans with ground passes try to milk there pass for all it's worth, and so they should. So when a flashy-looking yet unfamiliar player was practicing out on Court 22, people flocked to catch a glimpse. Everyone was clearly impressed but no one could work out who they were watching. One fan took a stab: "is that Amelie Mauresmo?" ( ) Turns out it was Diego Hartfield, preparing to meet [and then lose to] Roger Federer.
