I thought it's the right thread to post it!
ITF and ATP announce dates and ranking points The ITF and the ATP today announced Davis Cup by BNP Paribas dates from 2009 through 2013 and that South African Airways ATP Ranking Points will be awarded for Davis Cup from 2009. This is the first time that ranking points will be awarded for singles and doubles rubbers played in the elite World Group and World Group Play-off Round.
The ITF and ATP announcement means that Davis Cup dates are stabilised through 2013 with the support of the top players whose views were considered during the decision-making process. The addition of ranking points for all live singles and doubles rubbers is an added incentive for players to represent their nations in Davis Cup by BNP Paribas.
“This is a win/win situation for Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and the ATP,” said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti. “The calendar is stabilised for the upcoming years in the model that the top players requested and, for the first time in history, Davis Cup players will receive well-deserved ranking points for their performance in the competition.”
“We are delighted to award South African Airways ranking points for Davis Cup starting in 2009,” said Etienne de Villiers, ATP’s Executive Chairman. “The new ATP tour structure for 2009 is about providing fans, broadcasters and sponsors with the very best circuit possible. Like the tour, Davis Cup is a key component to the growth and future of tennis. We look forward to an exciting and memorable season to come.”

Davis Cup will be awarded ranking points under the following structure:
a) Accumulated points over the preceding 52-week period for the 4 rounds of Davis Cup and the play-off round will count as one result. For 2009 onwards, this will be one of the tournaments in the new premium tier 500 category, the best of which count towards a player’s ranking.
b) Points will not be awarded for dead rubbers.
c) Players who don’t play a round of matches will be awarded points based on the immediately preceding round (i.e. a player who doesn’t play the first round but plays the second round will earn 40 points for each singles match won in that second round).

I don't think it's a bad idea... Might induced players not usually available for DC to play it and rewards those who do play it.

South African Airways ranking points? What the .... I'm kinda of the old school. Well, not kinda ... I am. You should be proud to play for your country. Davis Cup is not about self glory, or money! Bloody tv schedules will be dictating this as well. Phht. Who gives a toss if it encourages more players to take part? The Davis Cup stands for something outside of self interest. Phht. It always brings a smile to my wee face that the Big Yin rises to the occasion for DC. Bless him. He ain't participating for self glory! Pandering yet again to tv schedules and selfish interest. Leave DC be. I really am becoming a greetin' faced old bas**** in my old age. Excellent!

Ranking points are a load of waffle IMO - even though it will attract the top 10 its giving into them about what matters more to them country or singles ranking this way just accomadates from them however i am glad to hear for the players sake they are scheduling the DC alot better from next year and we may not have so many people moaning about the schedule. Anyway enough bull from me - some Maratski pictures! Tarpi again with the legs - he needs to give his crotch some air LOL Well tomorrow is Draw Day - i think we will see Marat in the team possibly at Kolya's expense this time due to his success in Miami and the transition period but i do think Misha and Igor will be the singles with Dimarat teaming up. Cant wait for the draw pictures/comments. COME ON RUSSIA!
