Looks like Marat is doing another exhibition match against Djokovic December 10 - 13th... from what I could translate, it's also a good skiing opportunity for the boys derstandard.at/?url=/?id=1227287260923This exhibition play all sounds like good news to me - great practice against really good players...

yes, I believe so too maratsmaiden! but still, an official statement would help my nerve a lot... I just realized it also says this on the OS: Decision is still pending on what Marat will be doing for 2009.
Here's hoping he finds some inspiration out there... wherever that may be.

i just came across this article that i thought everyone might be interested in. looks like Marat will be playing at the Hopman Cup with Dinara next month!!! there is NO WAY he is retiring anytime soon... "US Open winner Serena Williams has withdrawn from next month’s Hopman Cup mixed teams event with a hamstring injury, organisers today. The world number two injured her hamstring in the year-ending WTA Championships and has not been able to recover in time to prepare for the Perth tournament, although she still intends to play the Australian Open later in January, organisers said. World No.10 James Blake will now be partnered by Meghann Shaughnessy, who last year played in the Hopman Cup and defeated Sania Mirza of India. Shaughnessy, winner of six singles and 15 doubles titles on the WTA Tour, has had an injury-plagued year but the United States will remain the top seeds for the January 3-9 event. Organisers said Russian star Marat Safin has shelved retirement plans and has committed to play in the Hopman Cup. Safin will team up with his sister and world number three Dinara Safina, with Russia the second seeds. The United States is the most successful nation in the 20-year history of the Hopman Cup having won the event five times." www.thetimes.co.za/Sport/Article.aspx?id=900952

Horrible thought ... just by virtue of you being number 29 in the world, you're in for the AO. As your official fairy kingdom guardian, you ARE in. No changing your mind and faffing around. You're playing, Big Yin. Start training straight after Christmas. And relax. There's a big year ahead. Your final year. We're going out on a high boy. ;D

Fairy head in hands. Is my Big Pixie ok? Even I'm healthier than him these days ... and that's saying something. A torn ligament? Good grief. FG

justsafin, actually it was never confirmed that Marat is playing AO. Officially he only confirmed Hopman Cup so far. He's on the AO list by default because of his ranking.

If my Big Pixie is in Australia anyway for the Hopman Cup ... he might as well hang around for the AO. He can top up his tan while he's there ... and he might meet some Aussie beach babe to keep him company during the tournament ...

FYI - I've just read this update on the OS Forum from the webmaster (was written a few weeks ago):
To stop all this speculation WHEN there is news I will post it on the OS as is usual.
As it stands at the moment - after the Australian Open Marat is not entered into anything. As his one manager put it - he is operating on a Freelance basis - i.e. depending on how he does at the Australian Open and whether his ranking improves or goes down - they will be looking at which tournaments Marat can get into.
I am afraid there is nothing I can do about giving any of you a pre-warning of where he is going to play at the moment.
Obviously if you read the rules of ATP if he is playing he has to play in the 1000 tournaments (the old Masters Series) as well as 2 of the 500 tournaments and the Grand Slams. So if his ranking stays around the 29 mark (as of Monday he will be 27) he will enter into those. As to the rest I don't know and I will let you know as soon as I do get any information.
So please can fans read this post before posting new topics on schedule. Thank you webby
So, if his ranking stays pretty much put, he will be in all 1,000 series events, which include tournaments at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome, Madrid, Toronto/Montreal, Cincinnati, Shanghai and Paris... Someone on the site today confirmed that he is on the entry list for Indian Wells.
