No sweetie, it doesn't. We have a name like that and it's written Kristina and pronounced the same as everywhere else, since it's not a Russian name

Hey Annie, my friend who was, wasn't, was and now isn't meeting me in St Petersburg. I had decided to travel by myself, over a week, back to Moscow. But everyone, even a Russian friend, have put the fear of life into me and told me not too.

alsl I had this question a few pages back on this thread. This came from old days...when military people used to *ahem* rest to the maximum after their battles and under alcohol effect play such dangerous games.... Nowadays...well maybe crazy people do it..but no...it's not common LOL Avalon, I didn't quite get that...where are you travelling on your own now?

Annie i've got a question for you as you are THE specialiste of Russia here! As i said i'm french and here journalists are talking a lot of the kind of "racist" agressions of those days in st petersbourg against the coloured students (i believe it was there)... What is exactly the situation right now? I love Russia really much and i'd like to travel there but i want to be sure that you know, it's as safe as possible because of the fact that i'm coloured. Do you think it's just a media thing or is there a real issue? Thanks and again : i love this web site, just go on like that!

Sorry ladies, I have abandoned this thread for a few days... First of all carole: there was an outbreak of racist attacks here, it is true. In St.Petersburg and Moscow. There was like one every day for a week. It's quiet now. I don't know what caused this but people who do this definitely have all of their screws loose. Nonetheless, as any large city Moscow is not the safest place on earth but it's not worse than let's say NY or Paris or London for that matter. If you decide to come to Moscow, I suggest you either take an organised trip with a group or have someone here who could take you around the city and show you places...it's very difficult here for foreigners on their own since not EVERYONE speaks English around here. I will be more than happy to assist Ruth ;D ;D ;D ;D my cooking partner Napoleon is the most divine cake you can find on the face of this planet, it is also the most fattening one Here is what it looks like: Flaky pastry layered with buttery cream.... YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Moscow Salad is one of the versions of Russian Salad made with boiled beef If you need recepies, just whistle

The cake looks lovely Annie, full of hidden depths, ( to followed by obvious widths!) I'd love a recipe. I have just had to buy a new set of scales (which need to be christened). as my previous ones which have done nearly 20 years of faithful service, fell off the shelf and are refusing to work any longer. I have to confess that boiled beef is not one of my favourites, however.
