The Olympic Games start in a few days so I just thought about a new thread where we can talk about it. In which disciplines you guys think your countries will get gold medals?

Hehe, we got one gold last time in Sydney - Erki Nool in decathlon (athletics or track&field)!! You've certainly never heard of him!!!!!!!! He'll be carrying our flag at the opening ceremony if you happen to be interested and notice him!!!!!! I personally think we have a very beautiful flag! We have 2 girls playing tennis BTW, one in singles and a doubles team! They won't win anything but at least they're there!! About medals, I don't have any hopes really (about Estonians getting any medals) but you never know!!!! And Christina, we have rowers, once world champion (1999? - my memory is so bad & I won't check it now) Jüri Jaanson at his 5th Olympics (was it?) in singles, young boys in 2 and in 4 whatever the boats are called in English. Dunno if you've ever heard of any rowers from Estonia. Never mind!

We have one doubles team too (no one in singles though : their names are Fyrstenberg and Matkowski and they even won some ATP turneys this year (in doubles of course). I'm sure they won't win coz they are not as that good, but I hope they will show some good tennis in Athens. People in Poland say that we have a chance for a medal in rowing, but I don't know a lot about this sport so We also hope for Robert Korzeniowski (walking), Otylia Jedrzejczak (women's swimming), Agata Wrobel (women's weightlifting) and some other athletes, but you never know with them .

Yep Magda, I know about Fyrstenberg/Matkowski! Korzeniowski is like 2 times Olympic champion am I right?? I know he's good! And I know Otylia J. too! And I'm sure you'll have some good rowers, Poland has always had some I guess.

Here we're expecting a lot from athletics and fencing, coz we have very talented athletes and fencers (we're even more impatient that in Sydney in 2000 it was a surprising disaster! ). So this year we have new hopes of gold medal (tho one of these hopes just disappeared as Marc Raquil is injured - he's World 400 metres bronze medallist in 2003 and also won the silver medal with the 4x400 relay team.... ) We also hope the men handball team can win a medal (not necessarily a gold medal). They won the bronze in 1992 but then nothing (even though they won 2 world champions titles after that). And their captain, Jackson Richardson (who will carry the flag in the opening ceremony), will be playing his 4th and last Olympics so you can imagine how much the team want to offer him a medal.. we'll see oh and in tennis, maybe Amélie?

Oh Damita, you know I like Amelie a lot!!!!! I hope you saw her winning the Fed Cup for France in Moscow last Nov.!!! It was soo sweet how she jumped to Guy Forget's arms after she won! She so deserved it! And do you know why Christine Arron and this other lady-sprinter smth. haven't got any good results really? When they first appeared they were pretty good and I hoped they'll do well!

No Maria i didn't see amélie and the french team winning the Fed Cup.... the tv here (except maybe the cable but i don't have it) never shows any Fed Cup tie!!! they show only the Davis cup.... i really dunno why they make such a distinction. They probably think nobody would watch women playing tennis but i think they're wrong because the girls are doing great too (as you just proved it by mentionning last november ;D)... hope they will change their mind in the future but realldy doubt so And about Christine Arron and Muriel hurtis (i think you were talking about her ), they did not participate to the 4x100m relay during the meeting between Germany, the USA, and France.... i have no idea why... i just hope they'll be ok for the Olympics, cuz they have great chances of winning medals!!!

Yep yep, Muriel Hurtis yes!!!!!!! I think they're nice ladys and I'd like them to win, not the American dopers (sorry if I offend anyone, don't take it personally!). And I hope you at least saw the photos of Amelie and Guy Forget in L'Equipe and tennis mags or smth! It was SOOO sweet, I saw it 'cause the final was in Moscow and my precious NTV+ sports channel covered it, they hoped Russia would win but Mary Pierce and Amelie whipped their a*** in the semis and the USA in the final, oops, I'm no good any more, time to go!! Sorry!!
