*ROTFL* Vass are you starting a Ginger dating agency?! ;D Only 17? Shame, he's a bit young for me I had a crush on a red-haired guy once - lots of girls ignore red-haired guys, but being a redhead, I usually notice them first Your allele (or is that spelt with a 'g'?) equation looks right to me - although neither parent needs to be a redhead - both my parents are brunette! But both my grandmothers were redheads. ;D

I almost read it "red-neck".... I know one such( red-haired) guy. Although he's not even 17 yet... Interested people send me a PM. I'll hook you up. Just a fact: the partner doesn't have to be red, to have a red kid. Here's why (oh I hope this question comes in my bio exam): X B X r Y r X BChildren: X r Y r X r Yr X B Xr X B X r Phenotype: 2 broun girls, 2 red boys. IF i'm not mistaken. hmmz.. as I see it: parents: XB Xr x XB Yr ----> kiddies: XB XB Xr XB XB Yr Xr Yr --> 2 brown girlz...1 brown boy, 1 red boy... Thats what I would say.. but lets not make this a genetical thread.. besides.. this is about nothing, cuz it's only a theoritical case.. anyway.. never mind.. VIVA LES REDS! ;D ;)Caroline

But both my grandmothers were redheads. ;D true, they just both have to have the recessive redhair gene and if they those genes of both meet up you get a redhaired kid. Both my parents aren’t redheads, my grandparents weren’t redheads, my brothers and sisters aren’t redheads. I wonder where I got it from ME>>> find a red-headed guy!!! ;D I don't know any! I hardly know any redhaired ppl at all, I've seen this other girl at my school who has red hair and that's about the only other redhead in my close environment. I don't know any redhead guys, I only saw 1 in my entire life I think, when I was in Spain. he was british, but he was about 5 just a bit too young!!!! -xxx-jes me

My cousine is red-haired but his parents are not and his grandparents weren't either, so that's the same case like ME. And if you're interested girls he's 22

I just read this thread for the first time today but I am the dying breed of the Irish colleen or at least I was until my friend got at me with a bottle of hair dye! But I think natural red heads are a dying breed even I don't know that many and I live in Ireland!!

is this a dating agency now? or a genetics lab? maybe both? LOL I think it's both. We must do something to keep the red-heads from becoming extinct. I'm not good in genetics so I leave it to you guys, but remember that I have a read-haired cousin, so if you need him for your experiments just let me know and I'll talk to him . I'm sure he will agree

but...is the hair colour gene sex-linked? as vass assumes? I don't know if it is called sex-linked, but both alleles are considered. sorry that I'm making it a pure genetic thread, but I always confuse this: in sex-linked characteristics to we consider the allele on the Y chromosome or not?

(if I remember correctly) It's not always linked to the Y-chromosome. Some characteristics are exclusivly linked to the X-chromosome and so exclusivly to the Y-chromosome. Though not many characteristics are sex-linked. (I think) -xxx-jes me

I don't think the red-hair gene is linked to gender but I remember reading it's supposed to be linked with eye colour! Something like 'if you have blue or green eyes you are more likely to have the red hair gene, but brown eye redheads are very rare' It's all linked with the Mackintosh scale they use in dermatology - redheads are Mackintosh 1 - the lowest on the scale and there's supposed to be a way of calculating the chances of having a redhaired child by looking at where the parents are on the scale, based on hair, eye and skin colour.....don't ask me how that works though - I was 15 when I last studied genetics! (I still can't even decide whether to spell 'allele with a 'g' or not !) Ok, I'm taking this thread a little off topic now *lol*! But it's nice that we redheads have so many people trying to rescue us from extinction

But it's nice that we redheads have so many people trying to rescue us from extinction it's allele without a 'g' ;D and yes it's very nice ppl want to save us ;D I don't think the red-hair gene is linked to gender but I remember reading it's supposed to be linked with eye colour! Something like 'if you have blue or green eyes you are more likely to have the red hair gene, but brown eye redheads are very rare' brown eyed redheads very rare? I read several studies which concluded that brown eyes are the most common in redheads, and that blue and green eyed redheads are less comon and black eyed redheads are close to non-existent. -xxx-jes me

Hey everyone... Me>>> i think that may be the case.. there are quite a bit of red-headed people I know with brown eyes.. You know what.. I didn't know that black-eyes red head people were rare cause my clost friend has natural red hair and black eyes... since we are on the topic of unusual characteristics... there are like 1 in 8 million people who are born with two different coloured eyes... my gradfather (May him rest in peace) was born with one blue eye and one green eye... actually my two parents and my four grandparents all have coloured eyes with brown/black hair and I was born with (quite weird) Blonde Curls AND Brown eyes... my brother was also born with black hair and brown eyes... MUST be some uncles or aunties that we take from.. *ohhh i have rambled on for heaps.. better stop now.. ) Love always Chiro (P.S. hope Marat wins against Sargsian... )
