Remember, he said he ain't gonna look at ranking points any more. I'm in 2 minds on that one - don't look, but still try is my philosophy. And no tantrums. ;D

Not sure i understand the rankings completely but I think things are a little bit out this year because some of the tournament dates are a week out. Does anyone know if he's likely to go up a few places when the new rankings come out on Monday. I really hope so!!

Rankings are updated every Monday. You can see how many places Marat has improved, cause he is going up. How many, I don't think is clear yet (not sure, can anyone confirm?!), because it depends on what other players did above him and below him. You just can't really say it. I think 72 is good. If we're going up, it's good. And besides, Marat doesn't care about the rankings anymore, so why should we:P?! (I have to admit, I still care.. )

89??why is he back at 89? Did he do better in Hamburg last year??I'm getting really confused He went down to 89 because he did better in ROME last year. The Hamburg 3rd round has indeed officially brought him back to 72 this week. And anything better than 2nd round in Paris will add to his climb... Of course he cares about the rankings. He said his aim is to be close to or in the Top 50 after Roland Garros. So let's wait and see if that'll happen.

Thanks everyone - especially Davis who seems to understand (and be able to explain to the rest of us who don't) the rules and how the system works. Going up is good. I think I understand when Marat says he doesn't care - I think he probably means more that it's just not the be all and end all. No point in getting unduly hung up on rankings - just go out and play your best. Rankings will follow - and if not - still enjoy your game Good luck (and enjoy!) Roland Garros.
