Sorry, I just can't believe the way he ended that match, the commentator was right - poor form Marat, REALLY poor form. I hate to say it but If this is his attitude and the way he's going to go for the rest of the year then what's the point? he may as well retire now and not bother. Leave my memories of the brilliant, passionate Marat intact.

and can I just add how frustrated I am seeing that he IS still capable of brilliance, when he actually puts his mind to it. It's not like he is too old and slow to even compete. He can beat the best if he wants to (his run at Wimbledon proves that, and I for one don't think it was a fluke, maybe he just took his Ritalin).

Absolutely no way am I letting my Big Pixie take the easy way out. Bugger that. He's going to find a way to finish off matches in what's, ironically, his best form for a long, long time. He's playing good solid shots and demonstrating some lovely touch play ... and then letting that 'old' Marat brain kick in again over what should be the last couple of games to finish the match. If it had been two close sets he'd lost, I'm sure that nobody would've batted an eyelid and said he'd played brilliantly ... but it wasn't to be, or expected. I'm sending him a 'new' Marat brain through the fairy post tonight, express delivery, with a kiss attached. He can use it from now on and toss that old brain into a charity shop somewhere. I'm sure somebody else would be happy to take it. Chin up Big Yin. You ain't giving in, you're made of stronger stuff than that. ;D And that stubborn nature won't give up the ghost just yet. FG

I also thought he played well till that 'fantastic' 6-2 4-1; why he can't close these kind of matches, well, I guess not even he knows; and I also guess he'd close them if he could, but for some reason he can't... some more pics from rome (practice) here - scroll down a bit:) www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=135102&page=37Edit: Marat and igor apparently withdrew from doubles- the OOP for tom says alternate vs Lopez/Verdasco www.atpworldtour.com/tennis/en/common/TrackIt.asp?file=/1/posting/2009/416/op.pdf

Shame you missed his lovely play in the first set - it is a mystery why he's struggling so hard - and cruelly ironic that he is playing some of his best tennis in a couple of years and yet his results don't come - but i feel sad rather than angry - its a shame someone who can play so beautifully suffers so much on court from what appears to be a total lack of self belief - he doesn't have a duty to US to win , though.
[color=OrangeMarat has the right to retire when he has decided he wants to - now or at the end of the year or whenever - as you so adroitly said, you have better things to do with your day - so why bother watching at all? it clearly can't be good for your blood pressure...
Isn't this the forum that jumps up and down in righteous indignation about any comments about Marat's real, temporary or supposed "girlfriends" or 'personal' life because supposedly people close to Marat (who have nothing better to do than report the ramblings on his websites to him, i suppose) READ this forum.....I'm sure Marat will be grateful for your 'advice' ...

Don´t worry... i haven´t bought my tickets yet. And probably i wont go. I´m not prepare to see this kind of matches live. I prefer remember him like the old days. 2004 and 2006 in madrid were great. I had a great time all the week. I keep that memories, now it is just sad.

Okay just in respect to this mans accomplishments i believe he should call it a day at RG. The place where he made his name with that epic run and victories of some great names, in one of his favoured cities, maybe on Chatrier. I think for him this is the place for him to stop. I mean he's got nothing to else to aspire to, Davis Cup - they can play withouth him, Wimbledon wont be like last year and American Hardcourt are terrible for Marat, forget Kremlin Cup - you can go watch if you want.
Against my better judgement i too watched the match and i put it like this he got to 6-2 4-1 playin solidly and Robredo playing poor, Once Tommy broke back for 4-2 i knew he had lost even Peter Fleming in commentary went 'Oh No' Since that he played poor and Robredo just outclassed him oh and he bottled it once again! Dont get me wrong tho Safin seems to be hitting the ball well but its no good if you cant close a match!
Okay i know i Cant be bothered with Marat anymore but i jut have to voice my opinion over how he and his team (if his team even exisits) have handled this supposed Farewell Year. He starts with no Pre-Season and Fight before Hopman Cup and AO, looks a mess. He has no schedule coming into European Hardcourt and asks for WC where he doesnt win a match but i presume picks up a nice pay day. American Hardcourt - Indian Wells nothing special.
Then comes Chokegate 1,2,3 Reasons he has lost Monfils (Nerves,Fitness) Lappenti (Nerves, Confidence demise ) Robredo (Nerves, No Game Plan) Sandwhich in Barcelona no show
This brings me back to Marat and his team - He has had 1 person in his camp since Monte Carlo ( i even asked webby on OS to confirm this) Danny from Valencia - yes Marat his a trainer and friend but he knows nothing about Tennis. I mean When Marat looks in his camp who does he see -1 person - a person who is not going to motivate him or calm him. Not saying he needs a coach with him but someone who can relax him, for gods sake take your girlfriend or mother to your matches, atleast you wll have support in your camp. I mean i havent seen Amit at a Marat match in ages, oh wait Federer in Australia Open cos thats the match to be seen at! Not Lapenti on Cout 1
Enough Ramblings from me - im quite open to discussion, See you guys in Madrid i presume!
Anette can i still take it's my duty to open that thread LOL

I thought he wanted to finish at Bercy...he said that himself. He might want to play once more the tournaments where he spent some of the best years of his life, he might want to get the paychecks- although I want to doubt that - or he might have other reasons. I guess that after these past 3-4 years, he can't fall any lower, even if he plays all the tournaments from now on till bercy and loses in the first round - I'm not saying that's what he should do, but I feel that he's way way past that stage of "he should retire now". He really has nothing more to lose in my view... Okay i know i Cant be bothered with Marat anymore but i jut have to voice my opinion over how he and his team (if his team even exisits) have handled this supposed Farewell Year. He has no schedule coming into European Hardcourt and asks for WC where he doesnt win a match but i presume picks up a nice pay day. American Hardcourt - Indian Wells nothing special. I guess his team never excelled at managing him . The only time he looked proffessional and on track was when he was working with Peter. But oh, well, I don't want to criticize them actually, as it might be hard to work with him. This brings me back to Marat and his team - He has had 1 person in his camp since Monte Carlo ( i even asked webby on OS to confirm this) Danny from Valencia - yes Marat his a trainer and friend but he knows nothing about Tennis. I mean i havent seen Amit at a Marat match in ages, oh wait Federer in Australia Open cos thats the match to be seen at! Not Lapenti on Cout 1 I guess a good friend can mean more support than a girlfriend who is not very close to him ... and she wouldn't know much about tennis either - unless she's one of us ;D. Some people just do better on their own - (raises hand )- he might feel even more under pressure with his family watching his chokegate 1,2,3

I must have missed the point where the site was renamed 'btgfr ... bash the guy from Russia'. Is it REALLY the end of the world if he's arsed a few matches? Of course not. A year ago if he reached number 20 in the rankings, everyone would have been delighted. What's changed? As for the team support, if a camera ain't picking them out courtside, why assume he doesn't have anybody there? It's his choice anyway who he has sitting there, or not. And no offence, I don't think anyone here has the right to question the professionalism of his team. Right, rant over. I'm away to watch the tennis. Andy got knocked out last night in his first match. Think he should retire now before he slides any further ... FG

Yarina i must say i do agree with all your points as in maybe he actually has nothing MORE to lose, cant get any worse than this right? And yes i can see where your coming from with working with Marat may not be easiest job in the world and maybe some people work better by them selves but Marat has had many people in his box before just dont see what has changed?? ;D ;D ;D As for you Fairy Godmother its still tgfr LOL i just think were frustrated (me, included) with how he's choking all of a sudden. He has had 3 chances to make a possible 1000' QF cos he was playing well and had good draws. As for the Ranking up to 20 that is very misleading how can someone who hasnt won 3 consecutive matches in 2009 go up 9 places. Wimbledon will be a big blow to his ranking too come July where we may be out the Top 50 Oh and yh Muzza should retire if he doesnt win Wimbledon - Flop of the season LMAOO Verdasco has just beaten Gasquet and Nadal is strolling past Robin Soderling - can he be stopped???

A year ago if he reached number 20 in the rankings, everyone would have been delighted. What's changed? btgrf is a funny one ;D Marry, I would say the fact that he is 6-8 since the beginning of the year looks to me like a pb, not like a successful third of the year for a top 20 player... chokegate 1 2 3 - I like that too much, Ily - is not the end of the world, maybe just another sign of the end of his career I also wrote a long reply to this (or was it a fan-rant?) and then decided it's not worth it Still, I'll post a summary I do not want to sound rude or catty, but I thought this was a Marat fan site and also a discussion forum, for all its members, regardless of their views. Annette, I've always acknowledged your contribution to this forum and I still do; I respect your opinions and I can see the point of your critical comments. I fail to see why you can't trust the rest of us that we can process your knowledgeble posts and give opinions different from yours a chance of upgrade from fan-rant to different view!
