Dominik won. Unbelievable match, Dominik was better on everything except serving. Fabulous performance from both players. Marat has had some hard matches and was fatigued and arrived in Perth late, so maybe something there, but really Dominik simply played better.
Dinara lost her forehand for 5 games in her 3 setter and really lost the match mentally there. She fought back but Dominika played better.
I have been watching the matches for 6 hourse so goodnight.

And BTW: Following the Hopman final, there will be two truly exciting semi finals happening in Doha - Andy R. vs. Monfils and Andy M. vs. Roger. Add to that the Brisbane match Gasquet - Tsonga (which I can't watch, too early )... I love today's tennis schedule ;D too bad those matches aren't on TV here (will just have Brisbane's final), definitely is a pretty sweet tennis day, and it's only week 1 Why would you get up at 4? It's just Dinara playing then... I didn't pay much attention to the oop before getting up, lol, so kinda dozed off and on til towards the end of Marat's first set, cause by then it was a more decent hour Such a long, tough day for them, bummer they couldn't turn it around ... although I'm sure it had to be nerve-wracking knowing that you are playing as a team, and your teammate happens to be family ... and tis a shame that they lost both their singles matches, cause I really really wanted to see them play doubles ah, well ... Congrats to Dominik and Dominika Marat did win brownie points when he gave the Net line judge lady a little hig and kiss after he clocked her with a failed return ;D ... aw, they both gave such cute speeches *hug*

I'm kinda overwhelmed now coz I'm thinking that was Marat's last match in this event and I think he started realizing it that's why he choke a bit on his serves! I think he's feeling quiet sad about it now! but still his match was really great and the positive thing about this week is that after all the long break he still didn't play bad tennis during the whole week whether he won or lost! I just realized how weird it would be after that man retires! For better and for worse that guy is the most special player the game ever seen and I just love him for that!

That kiss to the line judge was so cute - lucky lady - and the crowd loved it! Thank goodness for the tennis channel... I had to come to work so are they actually playing the doubles?

Well, well, well - done and gone. It would have been sweet had they won, but it's a rather good result nevertheless. I would say Marat did not play bad, but did not play great either - his serve was the most reliable element in his game, I guess. It's still one more season to go, so will save my tears for later , hopefully a decent last season, although I'm not expecting anything too good - but I guess that should be the case when one decides it's time to say quits. I am rather curious what he'll do after the tennis, enough time till then though. Needless to say he was gracious in his speech again - he definitely has a way with people: it's not only what he says but the way he says it also, always making eye contact with the people he refers to etc.

what a bummer. Dinara looked awful - that forehand caused her so much trouble, and she got so down on herself, she was doomed to fail from the onset. Marat, on the other hand, I thought played really well. He missed a few key shots, especially during break chances, but, on the other hand, he hit some amazing shots, and his serve was on fire. I hope he can carry some of this good play, and build on it, for the upcoming season. Considering he's done nothing for the last two months but party, I'm very happy with his results and am excited for 2009!!! oh, and I really like this picture

Retiring after this season does seem like a good idea to me now - Marat just can't keep up with the top anymore (I would've written the same if he had won today, btw). Sorry missus Davis, disagree on that one. The Big Yin can compete with them ... when his head is screwed on and he wants it enough ... that's what's been missing for so long ... but if he's also had a month out without touching a racquet, it ain't the best of preparation. The touch is still there, albeit a bit rusty, and I'm glad to see that in this tournament he wasn't losing the rag ... although SKY didn't show the first set tonight. Was he throwing racquets around? I'm pissed off that they didn't win - it would have been so good for both of them to win the Hopman Cup - but to get to the final was in itself an achievement. Well done to both of them. Some more practice and my Big Pixie will get some good results this year. His FG expects him to do well. And he will. Sign up for some mixed doubles in the Slams with wee sis, Big Yin! ;D FG PS I enjoyed the look on my Big Pixie's face when Hrabaty said he'd let him win next time. That's the feeling that he needs to keep in his heart ... and to try very, very hard not to throw a punch. LMAO. Raging bull was simmering under the surface ... he still cares.

I sadly agree with missus Davis FG and i think it would go back even to this time last year. A simple fitness aspect i think distances them - movement around the court - Marat is'nt as agile and supple as the top 4 - all be it quick for a big man his movement is limited but impressive for a big man i must say. He has the power, he has the serve he has it all in his game but not the consistancy or tempremant to last for about 4-5 hours in a grand slam - the biggest stages. However saying this i think his game is taking shape for a nice run at the AO. NEXT UP KOOYONG CLASSIC!!!!!!
