www.spbopen.ru/eng/index.htmlDavydenko lets Elglin into quarterfinal. With no fight Nikolay Davydenko announced that he has to withdraw from the tournament due to an injury. Russia`s number one player told at the press conference that the injury he got during the yesterday`s match against Chris Guccione will not allow him to play in the next round of the tournament. Nikolay emphasized that he got hurt during his opponent`s serve and not when he fell. According to Davydenko`s words, he felt pain in his wrist during the game though it did not disturb him so he could finish the match. Though later the pain increased and the player had to apply to doctor, and he was diagnosed with wrist sprain, and he was provided the necessary medical assistance. "They put a splint on my wrist. Now if the pain disappears and it feels better, I will probably play in Paris. But in any case I will have to miss training sessions", Nikolay said. Because of Davydenko`s withdrawal his opponent Michail Elgin is automatically going further to the quarterfinal - for the first time in the five years he participates in St. Petersburg Open. Hope he's ok...

Well done Mr Marat Safin -a comfortable win for once
Next up Golubev - should not pose more problems then Stakhovsky gave Marat, although a 44% first serve is poor no matter who u are playing Golubev deformed to Kazhakstan from Russia as most players are nowadays - i think its to do with funding - he's ranked 150 and should be no problem for Marat.
COME ON MARATSKI!!!!!!!!!

Safin 62 64 in 68 minutes - now that hasn't happened in a very long time. Next up is Golubev. Davydenko withdrew today because of a wrist injury. Thataboy. That's more like it. Golubev? Play him like he's Rafa - don't take any chances. In fact Big Yin, just play everyone as if you're playing Rafa. I put aside some budgie seed for you. It's alongside the fairy dust. Just in case ...

Former world number one Marat Safin, bidding for his third St Petersburg title after winning it in 2000 and 2001, also progressed by overpowering Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-2 6-4.
The big Russian, seeded eighth here, will next face Kazakh qualifier Andrey Golubev, who eliminated Olivier Rochus of Belgium 6-1 6-4.
"My main goal for the remainder of the year is to get as many ranking points as I can. That way I could be among the seeded players for next year's Australian Open," said Safin, who won in Melbourne in 2005.
"I want to play as best as I could here and next week in Paris so when I get to Melbourne I won't have to face (Rafael) Nadal, (Roger) Federer or Murray in the first round."
