Just making my way home from work. It's colder than Moscow. The trains are delayed. I stepped on a loose paving slab ... which had the obligatory 3 gallons of water under it. My toes are blue (pair of regulation furry slippers wouldn't go amiss at the moment - amputation could be in the offing by the time I get home), my leg is covered in muck, my left shoe squealches ... but hey, the Big Yin won his doubles! LMAO, positivity! Anybody gonna warm me up with a score and a match report? Just tell me he was never away from the net and the blood will rush back to my toes. Tell me he smiled when they won ... and I'll sleep easily.

... but OFCOURSE marat was glued to the net , if only to please you I've got him well-trained. He IS better than a budgie. ;D I love it when he says 'who's a cheeky boy?' in Russian. Rather touching. Glad to see the doubles appearing again - better workout than a practice session. And as we all know, it sharpens his reflexes at the net. He's in training again for Wimbles. ;D I'll be stuck in a meeting tomorrow when the Big Yin is on. I will expect a convincing result. No arsing about Big Yin. Or I'll personally take the slipper to you. A furry one at that. ;D FG X! PS GG? It's not Dima doing a Leslie Caron drag act is it? You will now have started a guessing game Mrs Fabregas. Shame on you. Apologies to GG. No doubt a very nice young lady. ;D Another PS Bad night for Celtic ...

Safin and Kunitsyn showed the children real tennis
Traditionally on the second day of the tournament famous players hold a master class to the children from the St. Petersburg tennis schools who will probably take their places in the world tennis rankings in some 10-15 years. This time the master class was held by their favorite players Marat Safin and Igor Kunitsyn who were victorious in their doubles match against Aisam Qureshi and Rogier Wassen earlier today.
For the beginning Marat and Igor demonstrated forehand and backhand and then showed the young players the right way to serve, after that the children could practice these elements with them. After the short practice the two players had individual matches with each young player to the score 2:2. And to the general delight of the spectators two young tennis players even managed to defeat Marat Safin! (how cute; and even predictable I might say!!!!lol!)
After the master class Marat and Igor made photos with the children and gave them gifts with St. Petersburg Open logos. This was followed by an autograph session - the children were eager to get the autographs of their idols for their collections. Later on Marat and Igor awarded the most talented junior players with certificates for 20 000 rubles for the purchase of sports equipment. These gifts were provided by the tournament partner Nevskoe Loto especially for the winners of the winter and summer tennis tournaments of 2008 - members of the Saint Petersburg teams Anna Shorsher and Dmitry Morozov in the age category under 10 years, Margarita Magaj and Dmitry Tenkov in the age category under 12 years, Ekaterina Semenova and Alexander Vasilenko in the age category under 14, and Daria Borodatova with Sergey Poverennov in the age category under 16 years.

How nice of Igor and Marat to be so generous with their time and spend it with the kids, I bet they'll never forget the experience! Lovely to see the Pros put something back into the game at grass roots level. Quick question, unrelated: What time in the UK is Marat's game on wednesday and does anyone know if it's being broadcast anywhere online?
