It's over. Went soooooo fast the 3rd set......
His serves started to drop so much since the 2nd set. What happened to the momentum?
Don't get mad too much guys, ok? At least, he didn't lose points.
Been looking forward to MARAT/ANDY SEMIS SO MUCH...
well, as mercurial as Marat is, we never know.
Good luck on the doubles and Legg Mason, AND US OPEN, MARAT!!!

I'm very disappointed to be honest, things were going well and this looked like a winnable match (and even tourny) for him...I wonder what happened this time....
Anyway, as justsafin said, it's important that he didn't lose any points...I'm just sorry he missed such a good opportunity to win some more.
So, good luck on the doubles and we'll be there cheering for the next one!

I know, evaki, I was even picturing him lifting up the trophy after such a long time drought of titles, and then he goes on to win back to back and coming to US open with great confidence... But still will cheer for him!

Well, a disappointing end but I have to say I'm not too angry with him. I was lucky enough to get to watch it on TV and he was playing great in the first set. Denis just couldn't keep up, but he turned that around in the second and third sets. He was ridiculous! He was getting to every single ball. Besides Denis getting better, it was 100 degrees in LA and Marat also had a fall which looked pretty painful. So yeah, justsafin is right, don't be too mad at him because the conditions were terrible and Denis simply outplayed and outran him.

Thanks Addie for at least offering us a possible explanation of what happened, it was really frustrating not to be able to watch the match!

Marat was already running in one direction when Denis hit a ball to his backhand and he tried to change direction too quickly and his feet went right out under him. He fell onto his left side, rolled around a bit in pain. He scraped his arms, which had to burn considering how hot those hardcourts are. p.s. Hey, twinnie!

Ya, if it's 100 degrees out there, then the hard courts must be like 120 degrees at least. Believe me, I tried to walk on the courts in Cincy. I felt like as if someone had set a fire on me or something. Running on the hard courts in hot summer, to me, is ridiculous and against humanity. Sport is meant to be healthy......sorry for venting too much. Thanks for the explanation and fortunately he doesn't get injured.

Oh dear , Im so disappointed. Do you think Marat can still get get back to his old form? Sure its hot out there but the other player is also having the same conditions too. I mean really, its not a good sign to lose to a guy even his own federation didn't want to send to the Olympics.

it was because he was wearing blue top and white shorts! He should either wear all blue or all white (preferably the latter ) Roddick moves on, Safin out Top seed Andy Roddick closed on his third title of the year by brushing aside Frenchman Marc Gicquel 6-3 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the ATP event in Los Angeles. The American, on the comeback trail after shoulder and neck injuries, grew in confidence as the match wore on to set up a semi-final with unseeded German Denis Gremelmayr, who upset former world number one Marat Safin 3-6 6-3 6-2. The 31-year-old Gicquel matched Roddick in the early stages but the top seed snatched the break in the eighth game and served out for the opening set. A series of mistakes from Gicquel in the opening game of the second set handed Roddick the early break and once he had broken again for 4-1, the result was never in doubt. "The first set, I won 6-3 but I really didn't feel super comfortable," Roddick told reporters. "The second set was probably the first really good set I have played in four months, I started to move the ball around well, so that was a really good feeling. "I think this match could be one that I look back on as a turning point in the year." Gremelmayr dealt former U.S. Open champion Safin a blow to his hopes of being seeded at Flushing Meadows this month by coming from behind to beat the Russian in the quarter-finals. World number 44 Safin overpowered the German early but was eventually worn down in an hour and 45 minutes as Gremelmayr, who made just seven unforced errors, ran down everything and forced the errors from the Russian fifth seed. "I made a couple of mistakes, the guy started to feel much more comfortable on the court and the momentum was gone," Safin said.
"I didn't serve very well in the third set and the balls are pretty slow so it was difficult for my game. I could not change it by serving and volleying. It was perfect for him because he was playing very simple tennis."Safin must now hope for a good performance next week in Washington if he is to earn one of the 32 seeded berths in New York, not that he seemed overly concerned "It's ok if I am not seeded," he said. "Yes, it would be good if I am, but I am not going to shoot myself if I am not."
