From the Official Roma website:
Russia's Marat Safin and Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic advanced to the second round in Rome on Tuesday, both with solid wins. Safin, now back in the world's top 30, showed signs of the brilliance which saw him reach the top spot over his three set win, though he was helped out by his American opponent, qualifier Amer Delic, who hit consistently long. Safin won 26 63 64.
Number 12 seed Berdych was simply too strong for his Finnish opponent Jarkko Nieminen. He hit well of both wings during his 64 75 win and is seeded to meet number eight seed Ivan Ljubicic in the third round.

P.S.: Was is just me or did anyone else see a black-haired Elena Korikova in the crowd? No, I don't want to start any rumour and I could easily be wrong (after all, I watched this at work so I couldn't give the broadcast 100% attention... ). yes, it was her. She is a brunette now

Yeeh he won! Just great! Up next is Koyla.. I'm curious! I found this on www.gadsdentimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070508/APS/705081441§ioncat=SPORTS it's a short article with some says from Marat! Article: ROME (AP) -Marat Safin overcame a shaky start before beating American qualifier Amer Delic 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 Tuesday in the first round of the Rome Masters. Safin lost 12 straight points to lose the first set. The former top-ranked Russian regained his composure in the second set, converting his first break of the match to lead 5-3 then serving out to love. Safin broke in the opening game of the third set and maintained the advantage the rest of the way. ``He started pretty well and was hitting unbelievable winners on the lines - I couldn't get into the game,'' Safin said. ``But then I tried to make him run and play more. It was just a matter of time." Safin has never advanced past the third round in his seven previous appearances in Rome. He'll next face Davis Cup teammate and fourth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko. ``Next round, I'm going to have to play better to win,'' Safin said. Kisses!

Marat talking about his next match against Kolya (from ATP website)
Safin (on playing Davydenko next): "It's a tough match because he's been a long time in the Top 10 already for two years in a row. Played some great matches, great tournaments, a lot of confidence, fast guy, not many mistakes. The only chance I have is that he didn't play well the past couple months, so I have a chance down there. But I have be solid; I have to play my best game and make him move, go for the shots. Make sure that I have my serve and stay with him."

humm.......that's what i can call a good day!till now anyway! ok i haven't seen the match and i can't judge but according to ya guys he was sloppy! so! i think he'll be better against kolya for several reasons!which are: it transcends him when he plays a better ranked one, a russian and a russian who took his place and in DC! we have all here except DC so i think he's gonna win tomorrow! i hope! c'mon boy kick his married ass! i don't want even ask about korikova it's not the thread and it's surely nothing worthing to drives me nuts! I'm not freaking out ok!? kiss for all piccies!!!!!!!!
