You guys are so positive! After the match I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I would be. At first I thought it was because I really like Andy too, but I think it was because Marat played exceptionally well given the circumstances. He is fighting and you can see that he isn't taking anything for granted.
A point either here or there and it could have gone either way. Andy was hitting some ridiculous net cords and they were all falling on Marat's side, but Marat didn't get frustrated.
It sucks that he's out, but I believe that he has started the year off well. Good Luck to him in the Davis Cup!

Nope, there were no commercials, they were showing Andy full dressed this time And they both actually changed shirts about the same time.I think when it started to rain, and then there was some screaming in the crowd, and instead to show the two of them taking shirts off for real, they showed the ump laughing and acting 3 bloody times like he's gonna take off his as well I was so pissed Showing Andy changing his shirt...it's OK...he has a nice body, but then, right after that, ESPN switched to Jimmy Connors and I was like "I don't wanna see Connors, I wanna see Marat changing his shirt".

Safin fumes that court and referee are all wet
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -Marat Safin was at it again.
He drew a warning Friday for his bitter and repeated complaints. He had been forced to resume play at the Australian Open after the roof on Rod Laver Arena was closed because light rain started falling during his third-round match against Andy Roddick.
About two dozen ballboys and officials frantically toweled down the court, but Safin said they neglected parts outside the doubles lines, leaving wet patches. As Roddick waited to receive serve, Safin initially refused to go on court before being told he could face penalties.
Tournament referee Wayne McKewen came onto court to take a look.
``Marat, the court is fine, we're playing,'' he told the Russian.
Safin went out and held serve, but continued to complain, telling chair umpire Pascal Maria: ``The guy comes in, never in his life plays tennis, and tells me it's OK.''
``I could be slipping,'' continued Safin, who added an expletive and berated the referee as a cigar smoker.
Safin got no sympathy, just a warning for verbal obscenity. He was still steaming after the match.
``It was a joke. It was really, really pathetic,'' said Safin, who had paid a $500 fine for racket abuse after his first-round match. ``Why do I have to put my health in doubt?''
Roddick understood Safin's concerns.
``I've been there before,'' he said. ``At Wimbledon, I felt like it was really not safe to play before, sometimes. I felt comfortable; he didn't. He's well within his rights to express that.''

Andy was totally fair today Commentator even said they are "good friends" and they're training a lot together. I didn't get that feeling from other people's comments ...

hey. its a shame dat marat lost yesterday.....but i think he played really well...he's a real fighter....the way he was self flagellating himself with his racquet shows how badly he wants it and how commited to playin tennis he is...he was unlucky with some outrageous netcords esp the 1 in the 3rd set wen andy broke him....n took the set...hopely he does well in the comin months n improves his ranking.
ciao!!!

Good match big yin. I finished watching it at 1.30am. I really thought it would have gone the distance. Damn. Nice to see him looking like he really wanted it though. He really upped his game and was pretty unlucky with a few netcords. If anything, hope he doesn't get down on himself - he played very well - but Andy just played a bit better on a few key points. Pretty tight match - and great to watch. PS Get rid of the dayglow shirt. It gives me a headache.

Hey girls!I've finally been watching his match and honestly I think the both played some great tennis!Unfortunately Andy was simply luckier on some points especially on the second! He kind of broke Marat by luck! Oh and I really appreciated the way Andy talked to Marat at the net and also the fact that he applaused Marat with the crowd when he was leaving the arena! And smthg else! I don't know why? Really don't know! But I have the feeling that it will just get better for him for the rest of this season!Yeah especiallyRG, I think he'll focus more on his biggest grand slam dream!I mean he had a tough end's season and maybe it will be kind of positif for him to stop right now and have some rest! The way he did before DC final! Anyway really sad he's lost but I think that match was kind of a lottery it could go anywhere!Kind of bad draw and bad luck! Oh and the finger! He looked really hurted even kind of disgusted by the image of his skin and the blood! Our baby is so touchy!I love him! Oh and girls thanx for everything pics interview links! I love ya too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Came across the match statistics today. They show that there wasn't too much between Andy and Marat, even in the "unforced errors" section. He really doesn't need to feel bad about such a tight loss...
Match Summary Safin (RUS) Roddick (USA) 1st Serve % Marat 85 of 139 = 61 % Andy 81 of 124 = 65 %
Aces Marat 22 Andy 14
Double Faults Marat 2 Andy 2
Unforced Errors Marat 39 Andy 33
Winning % on 1st Serve Marat 63 of 85 = 74 % Andy 59 of 81 = 73 %
Winning % on 2nd Serve Marat 25 of 54 = 46 % Andy 25 of 43 = 58 %
Winners (Including Service) Marat 52 Andy 47
Receiving Points Won Marat 40 of 124 = 32 % Andy 51 of 139 = 37 % Break Point Conversions Marat 4 of 7 = 57 % Andy 3 of 12 = 25 % Net Approaches Marat 24 of 35 = 69 % Andy 33 of 52 = 63 % Total Points Won Marat 128 Andy 135 Fastest Serve Marat 217 km/h Andy 230 km/h Average 1st Serve Speed Marat 199 km/h Andy 204 km/h Average 2nd Serve Speed Marat 160 km/h Andy 167 km/h
