[ He didn't lose becasue he played that badly. It was an incredibly close match and they both played very very well at times. I'm as gutted for him as anyone but I don't really think he has too much to regret. He could have played better at times (esp after breaking in the first set) but it in the end it could have easily gone either way. Basically I am sticking to what i said when he first came back from the knee injury...getting back to his best tennis was going to be a long term process and I think he's nearly there. He's hitting the ball well, he looks very fit and his head in the right place. Tonight he came up against someone who played as well as he did and had a bit more luck on important points. C'est la vie. And as for Sasha Volkov...I can't see that at this stage Marat needs any one to teach him how to play tennis. He's has all the shots, he understands the subtieties of the game. What he does need is someone he can trust, that's there for him to talk to, and someone that he can be relaxed around. If that doesn't describe Sasha then I don't know what does. I think they have a fantastic dynamic going and I hope they keep it up. You're absolutely right Bia, he didn't play bad at all! Sometimes even great, good serving -esp. aces-, forehands and ofcourse the bunny-hop backhand! And I deffinitely agree it could go both ways, and that's why i'm a bit upset... He could have won it, but the luck was on Roddicks site this time (how many times did he touch the netband in his profit?) .... Next time better! It wasn't the easiest draw, and i'm really proud of him coming this far! Think his rank will be a bit higher after this.... continue to look up marat! The top-10 is waiting 4u... And about Sasha.... I really think Marat needs him, because he (Sasha) is so at ease, peaceful and relaxed.... really think he improved that with marat too, makes him more calm and relaxed.......... So, Marat, stick with Sasha for a while, please! I was too sad to even post anything ..... but ya, you girls really had said what i have in mind Marat didn't play badly at all. On the contrary, he played great. Could have gone either way.......just that luck was on Rod's side this time, though that hurts even more when I think about this match He outserved Rod, and even after his fingers hurt that much, he still fought to the end.....still giving incredible shots, passes, forehand and backhand..... Just that it hurts so much that I have been waiting two years to sing happy birthday song to him on semis in front of the TV, and I believe he is capable of.....that dream has vanished...I will have to wait another year to sing b day song to marat and celebrate.... But good thing is Marat is in good shape and hasn't lost any fighting spirit. I believe he will give us fans much more surprises in the future. I look forward to them very much. Well done, Marat. Best of luck on the next tourny.
