Vass! Thanks for the stat, but can you give me Koubek's stat. Just wanna know, how Marat survived last night. (No broadcasting for that match in my country.) If Marat can get through the SF and meet Andre, he's going to put a lot of pressure to himself coz he wants to go to Houston badly. He doesn't play well under pressure. Can anyone tell him that "Man, enjoy your tennis, Houston is just a bonus."? sorry jasmine. i can't remember koubek's stats. erm..lemme try...62% first serves. 2 aces (i think). 4 DFs. erm...0/3 BPs. lots of UEs. and quite a number of winners, other than aces.

YAY!!!!!!!!! MARAT WON>> WOO HOOO Damita>> OMG...when i was reading that i was soooo nervous but excited at the same time... its like well if Marat does well and he will *fingers crossed* he can finally prove to the rest that he is more worthy of being up there and to kick agassi and hrbaty and blah blah out is such an exciting thought...... I cant wait till this weekend is over!!!! i wanna see what happen! ;D Another thing, I think that Vass has a point sayin that if Marat plays that way he won't beat a top 10 or so player without lifting his game, if he wants to continue to progress in the tournament.... but then think about it this way....... If your opponent is making more errors than you, therefore u are winning the point based on him rather than you, you are more likely to drop off the intensity and agressiveness of your game since you are winning anyway.... its like that "save your energy for when it counts" type of thing.... get what i mean ?? I just think that Marat is always talkin about conerving energy and all for when u need to give it your ALL... but in that match he didn't need to so why not win from errors and conserve your best for when u are being pushed and your win is being threatened ?? anyways... thats my thought On another topic, I saw some footage of Agassi's match with the models as ballgirls... it looks so WEIRD... like they can do the job and all but they run so elegantly and eyeball the players.... plus i saw that agassi looked a little less dominant in his asking for balls and stuff because they were women..... i dunno... i think it looked quite awkward.... Anyways.... Hope Marat can continue in his form and improve along the way so that he can get into the MASTERS CUP... our No. 1 goal!!!!! ;D

Good to see Marat's collecting himself after disappointing last week. I think Marat can not be satisfied with quaterfinal or even semifinal result in Madrid. I think the only way how he can raise his game to another level is to beat big players and win another tournament. This sounds pretty bad but Marat last beat a top 10 player was in Australian Open this year. Since then he beat none of the big players and this is what is really frustrating for him I think. I doubt he was trully satisfied with his Benjin title since he beat top 100, top 50 players that he supposed to beat EVERY singe time. I just hope that he wouldn't put so much emphasis on this ranking points and was actually thinking of winning tournament instead of how many points he got... I think this tournament can potentially be very big for Marat. Good luck next match against Mr. Horna

Maria>> about Gerard Tsobanian, i knwe i had something to tell you! it was in tennis-X newsletter this morning: Gerard Tsobanian, the head of the firm running the Madrid tournament, said they would see the models through the controversy to the end of the event. "We will continue with our project until the end," he told The Telegraph. "We want to do something new. This is not machista, we want a women's tournament here, too, and for that we would use male models." OK, this is really ! Well, the manager like the player, at least understandable why they get along so well. I'll shut up now!

And I hope he can get to the semi vs Andre to show how he can hande a top 10 player! All the close losses to Andy and Rogi and others must certainly have been frustrating this year and taken his confidence. And he was so serious the whole match, so concentrated!! I was like WOW!! And to those whiners like Vass > like Chiro said - there was no need to step it up, it was enough to beat Koubek in less than an hour! I soooo hope he'll show everything he has against Andre! DAVAI MARAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Am I rushing things or what? ;D Athough when I say there's no way he'll lose to Horna tonight he might just go and do that! So I better wish him just good luck too and really shut up now!

Thanks Vlad, for the stat. It's worse than I thought it is. I though about how he didn't need to play full strenght and I think it's not right anyway. Play not in full strenth but don't have so many unforced errors! Plus, the top ten players still try to eraze their opponnent every single time. But Marat gave Koubek 3 returning games for free. That's not a proffesional game. Jiat did Koubek have about the same number of pure winners? If so, it's unacceptable. A top ten player, even if he's not playing full strenght, saving energy still runs down all shots and plays a limited defensive game, which still doesn't allow the opponent to do anything. Otherwise, if the opponent suddenly reduces his unforced errors (turning them into winners < Koubek went dtl a lot> ) he will run away with the match before Marat can step up his game. This already happened before, I think.

some news about the qualifications for the masters cup (www.masters-cup.com): Safin Gains Ground in Race Marat Safin changed the look of the INDESIT ATP 2004 Race Leader Board Thursday as he moved into seventh position with his 6-3 6-3 win over Stefan Koubek to reach the quarterfinals at Masters Series Madrid.
Safin is one of 11 players vying for the remaining four spots for Tennis Masters Cup in Houston, but the number of players who have a chance to qualify could shrink by the end of the weekend. Through three rounds of play in Madrid, the number of eligible players has already been cut in half.
The top eight players in the INDESIT ATP 2004 Race qualify for Tennis Masters cup, unless Gaudio falls out of the top eight, then the top seven will qualify as will Gaudio by virtue of his Grand Slam win at Roland Garros. Andre Agassi is fast approaching Safin on the Leader Board. Currently ninth, Agassi will move past Gaudio with a win in the Madrid quarterfinals. If Agassi advances one round further than Safin in Madrid, he will overtake Safin in the Race.
Both Safin and Agassi would move into sixth position, ahead of Tim Henman, by winning the Madrid title.
Madrid quarterfinalists David Nalbandian, Joachim Johansson and Tommy Robredo are 10-12 in the Race, and could move onto the Leader Board as they advance deeper into the week in Madrid. Dominik Hrbaty and Guillermo Canas will be interested observers in Safin's quarterfinal match with Horna. Both will have their hopes of a spot in Houston dashed with a win by Safin on Friday.Marat! I want you to win this tournament! Don't let Agassi ran away with it! I know you have to play under pressure, but you can do it Maratik. Good luck.

He has to face off with Agassi, in a match that might cost him his play in Houston. He has to have a solid game, because in a match with such pressure there'll be a lot of nerves and his body might need to pull him through by itself....

Didn't see the match yesterday (it wasn't broadcast), and couldn't even be online...................... I'm glad he won it in two sets, though. Horna next and then maybe Agassi, huh? I honestly think he can do it, but he needs to stay focused, be agressive and keep the number of UEs low. I saw the Agassi match, though.............. Everybody was all like "The match of the day, blah, blah........." What a joke! I saw the models too, they kept showing them aaaaalllllllllllllllllll the time They seemed kinda out of place and looked like snotty princesses when running after the balls LOL I agree with Chiro, Agassi was awkward with the girls, almost intimidated........(hehe...... wonder what Stefi would say? ;D )
