6-3 6-3. Horna next.
Poor performance despite the score and 59 minutes...
60% first serve, 13 aces, 2 df, 20 winners, 13 UEs. Bad returning (3 love service games for Koubek). 20 winners minus 13 aces gets us only 7 winners. Not aggressive game. He'll lose to a serius opponent like this and his confidence will hit rock bottom again...

WOW WOW.... ;D What a great match what a way to go habibi I only had the SB and some good company to be a part of this wonderful Safin victory, and it appears Marat played really well, with confidence and in quick quick time. I still need to go thru the stats but I think they must be good. It would not appear that he was distracted? Anyone actually saw the match? If so did they have the ball models? Happy happy day ;D

LOL Vass, man you can be a real wet blanket on a cold night. Well I trust Jiat's judgement... And I know that he's not playing aggressive. 3 MTF people I chatted with said the same thing as well. If you look at point by point match record on MTF you'll see that most points were won by Koubek's errors. A top player would play a little cleaner and ooops, Marat's in trouble. Marat's luck that there are no more top players left in the draw. Ofcourse I might be wring: Marat didn't have to waste strengh on winners if he could wait for errors... Koubek isn't a good indicator. Yet, 3 returning games lost a love (actualy he broke at love ones too. That guy can't be put into an equation!) isn't good But i gotta say that I'm very happy for the serving: Liek this game: "Safin to serve up a set 6-3 15-0 Service winner 30-0 Service winner (keep serving to Koubek's forehand) 40-0 Ace out wide Game Safin, ace up the T, nice" By Esquimaux on MTF;D C'mon Marat! You don't need any luck for the match, use your skill.! C'mon Go Marat against Horna! It' s not that I'm not happy that Marat's winning, but i'm worried that he'll lose....

Hi Teresa!! Hope you're doing fine! I saw the whole match! Vass already got the stats for you. So I'm responsible for the gossip part - Peter and Walt were sitting next to each other again. Serious up to the end. And Walt not talking all the time, lol! Gerard was sitting in another box with 2 ladies in the 1st row, so Ruth or who said it may be right that he has to do with the organization of the Madrid tourney (and the model thingy - just kidding). No models at Marat's match Teresa. The models were at Andre-Vinny. Didn't follow so don't know how Vinny was acting. OK, it's late already. My overexcitement is kinda calming down. But believe me Teresa - 59 min - it WAS good, no matter what Vass, Jiat and other people say! And 2 sets this time Vass!!!!!!!! As you demanded! So the progress is there! Yeah, I'm not saying he could win a top 10 player with such game, OK Vass, but for now I'm happy with that! And if he wins Horna tomorrow - he will have some more stability and confidence I hope. His serve was working pretty much the whole 2 sets, just once a little prob. So that was good. 2 brilliant lobs that were in & good. Nice crowd BTW! A lot of people. I saw only the end of Andre-Vinny and Andre got ovations, he was so happy he won, made his bows, smiled. Whatever, I'm too tired to analyze now! Have a wonderful day or night whatever you're just having!

Maria>> about Gerard Tsobanian, i knwe i had something to tell you! it was in tennis-X newsletter this morning: Gerard Tsobanian, the head of the firm running the Madrid tournament, said they would see the models through the controversy to the end of the event. "We will continue with our project until the end," he told The Telegraph. "We want to do something new. This is not machista, we want a women's tournament here, too, and for that we would use male models." some news about the qualifications for the masters cup (www.masters-cup.com): Safin Gains Ground in Race Marat Safin changed the look of the INDESIT ATP 2004 Race Leader Board Thursday as he moved into seventh position with his 6-3 6-3 win over Stefan Koubek to reach the quarterfinals at Masters Series Madrid.
Safin is one of 11 players vying for the remaining four spots for Tennis Masters Cup in Houston, but the number of players who have a chance to qualify could shrink by the end of the weekend. Through three rounds of play in Madrid, the number of eligible players has already been cut in half.
Roger Federer, who has secured the year-end No. 1, Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt are the top three in the Race, and have qualified for Houston. Gaston Gaudio, who is in eighth position, has also secured a spot in Houston as the Roland Garros champion. The top eight players in the INDESIT ATP 2004 Race qualify for Tennis Masters cup, unless Gaudio falls out of the top eight, then the top seven will qualify as will Gaudio by virtue of his Grand Slam win at Roland Garros. Andre Agassi is fast approaching Safin on the Leader Board. Currently ninth, Agassi will move past Gaudio with a win in the Madrid quarterfinals. If Agassi advances one round further than Safin in Madrid, he will overtake Safin in the Race.
Both Safin and Agassi would move into sixth position, ahead of Tim Henman, by winning the Madrid title.
Madrid quarterfinalists David Nalbandian, Joachim Johansson and Tommy Robredo are 10-12 in the Race, and could move onto the Leader Board as they advance deeper into the week in Madrid. Dominik Hrbaty and Guillermo Canas will be interested observers in Safin's quarterfinal match with Horna. Both will have their hopes of a spot in Houston dashed with a win by Safin on Friday.Ivan Ljubicic, who reached the quarterfinals in Madrid by upsetting top seed Tim Henman, entered the week at No. 29 in the Race. He still holds a remote chance at qualifying, but his chances depend on him winning this week in Madrid, next week in Basel and in the final event of the year in Paris. There will be 100 INDESIT ATP 2004 Race points awarded to the winner of Masters Series Madrid. The finalist will earn 70 points and semifinalists will get 45. All players reaching the quarterfinals earn 25 points.

Vass He needs to build his confidence, so he has to play safe to win, he has to win to get his confidence back, with confidence he can be more aggressive, with confidence he can go for those aggressive shots, give him time, its coming, and he won't disappoint you.
Please Vass, there are no poor performances here, even if this is your opinion, its not a fair one, there are NO poor performances, none

HELLO! time for me to appear! lol
models only work the first night match. so marat won't get them today.
marat's match. as i said to both vass and maria... the scoreline was goooodddd i'm really happy about the scoreline and his service game, though it was agonising to see some of his serves hit the net right in the middle of the net. bah. YEP serves were good and score was impressive.
as vass said though, most of his winners were aces. and he relied too much on koubek's UEs. Koubek was making marat run all over the place and came up with some good shotmaking.
marat made two gorgeous LOBS!!!! and a few nice volleys. all in all, it was a good match. but not marat at his greatest. sorry.
and see...i'm tryign to balance out the criticisms and the praise lol.....and see VASS...that's why i was up at 2am... so if u see me at 2am again today..i forbid u to shoo me off to bed. ;D

Vass! Thanks for the stat, but can you give me Koubek's stat. Just wanna know, how Marat survived last night. (No broadcasting for that match in my country.) If Marat can get through the SF and meet Andre, he's going to put a lot of pressure to himself coz he wants to go to Houston badly. He doesn't play well under pressure. Can anyone tell him that "Man, enjoy your tennis, Houston is just a bonus."?
