LOL Nicki! Both Marat and David got a bottle of Spanish champagne to open and Marat gave the bottle to one of the girls after that with his gorgeous smile. And then the girls sprayed him with champagne a bit too! It was such a great ceremony! ;D ;D

This is a trully great stuff from Marat and I am really happy for him. Even after he won Beijin, I had this feeling of not being satisfied totally due to the quality of players he beat there. Nothing taking away from Niemenen or Yuzhniy, they are not Agassi and Nalbandian... After all the disappointments this year it turns out to be his third best year as of now. If you would ask me 2 months ago, that by this time Marat will be #6 in the race (19 points from #4) and that he would have 2 titles including masters I would say you are crazy. He has a very good chance of making it to the masters cup after this win, but it is still not garanteed. He will need a good performance in at least one of the next 2 tournament ( St. Petersburg and Bercy). My question is, do you guys think he will give it all in St. Petersburg or will take a little bit of rest which will be understandable giving how much he played recently? BTW, credit to Peter Lundgren who has stuck with Marat through on his losses and right now it looks like they are a happy couple! LOL.
Great job Marat and please keep doing what you doing since it has worked just fine!

This is a trully great stuff from Marat and I am really happy for him. Hi Vlad, yes I agree this is truly a wonderful day and truly great stuff from Marat. We are all very happy for him. That was understandable I agree he has a good chance, but I don't think it is confirmed. I hope and think he will put in a good performance in St. Petersburg, and definately in Bercy I don't think he can leave it all to Bercy. Sure he may need a bit of a rest, but its year end, he will get rest after Bercy / before Houston. Also I think he has a good chance at St Petersburg, his draw really quite easy, he should be able to get thru, but it may depend on what happens off court in St.Petersburg Yep, I agree I think the relationship is working, and quoted from an article, Marat has been saying that he and Peter are working well and seems as if they are going into next year as 'a happy couple' Can't say it enough [/quote]

hmmmz i was waiting for the replay of the final on tv and was very bored ;D so i've translated another article from French eurosport site: [glow=red,2,300]TERRIBLE SAFIN’S BACK[/glow] Marat Safin’s had an impressive victory over Argentine David Nalbandian in the finals of the Masters Series in Madrid. Safin now counts 13 titles, four of them are Masters Series. The Russian is in a good position for the Masters Cup as he took the sixth spot of the Race, ahead of Henman.
This day should perhaps be considered a red-letter day for Marat Safin. After a long season made of the very best (final in the Australian Open) and of the very worst (loss in the first round in Flushing Meadows), the Russian can finally rely on a convincing result: a victory in a Masters Series, the fourth one in his career only, for a total of 13 titles. Against the ambitious Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, unexpected Koubek and Horna, or against unavoidable Agassi, the Russian showed a comforting image of his tennis, made of talent, sobriety and efficiency, far from the matches he tanked last summer because of a lack of motivation. In the finals, his coach Peter Lundgren (former coach of Roger Federer) hasn’t been disappointed by the attitude of Terrible Safin, the 2004 version. Focused on every single point, and constant in his tactical choices, the Russian has outrageously dominated a player who beat him with class in Rolland Garros though. Safin’s speeded-up backhand [uhm, i hope you know what i mean, didn't find any word to say it better ] David Nalbandian is one of the most unlucky Argentinians on the tour. During the 2 last seasons he hasn’t won any of the four finals he played, and in the Grand Slams he lost in the finals of Wimbledon in 2002, and in the semis against Roddick at the 2003 US Open and against Gaudion in Roland Garros in 2004. In Madrid, he’s been caught out at his own game. The Russian imposed a tough rythmn during the match, ending the rallies with some decisive speeding-up. Broke twice in each of the two first sets and once in the third, and only able to break back twice, Nalbandian has been globally unable to cope in this match. Nervous in the beginning, he suffered the power and length of Safin’s shots, who had obviously worked on his speeded-up backhand along the line. This new trophy gives us two interesting indications for the ATP circuit: Safin should take part in the Masters Cup, and this will be entertaining. Even better, if the Russian keeps this high level of play, he might be the ideal opponent of a Roger Federer, and this is something no one would have dared to imagine before the tournament. Good work Mister Lundgren…<br> Eurosport - Julien Carrasco

Thanks for translating Damita! It's too bad they didn't show the match in the US.
