I watched a documentary on my other fav. player Pete Sampras last night. Wimby was his fav. tournament of all. But the funny thing is some things he said after winning his first Slam at the USO. He sounded very much like Marat, said it came too soon and he couldn't deal with the pressure and media. He admitted to giving up in the final at USO the next year, he tanked. It took him 2 years to get over all this and win another Slam. Many things he said sounded very much like what Marat has also said. He seems to have a fav. saying. When the media called him boring...." It pissed me off " When the media blamed his losses on his new wife...." It pissed me off" He said this 4-5 times and I just laughed. And when he proved his critics wrong and won the 2002 USO he felt as if, you ready for this? Young eyes look away. He felt as if he " just shoved it up their ass" Lord, I cried the night he retired and still miss him. As for his coach Gullikson I never knew this but he put his first Wimbledon trophy in the casket. It wasn't a Wimby trophy but I did the same. The way he spoke it just cracked me up, boring he is not. Pete |
