Congrat's Marat, but you realy need to eliminate those slow starts... ;D I sooooo agree with you on that Vass. I was so angry after that first set that I wanted to kill him (and myself as well) . Then he won the second set but I was like 'pffff you got lucky coz Lleyton played bad ' and then I changed the channel coz I couldn't stand watching Marat playing so bad. I switched it on again at the end of the 3rd set and then he was like completely different Marat. He played very good till the end and he definitely deserved the trophy for coming back to the game after such terrible start. But just like Nicki - I wasn't all that excited when he won. I was more hyper when he beat Federer. Dunno why... perhaps because I was too disappointed with his game in the beginning.... But congrats Marat!!

Safin thanks coach after Australian Open title
The Associated Press AP Photos By DENNIS PASSA Associated Press Writer MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - Peter Lundgren was dumped as Roger Federer's
coach in December 2003, barely a month before Federer won the Australian Open,
the first of his three Grand Slam tournaments in 2004.
This year, Lundgren was cheering in the stands when his new pupil, Marat
Safin, beat Lleyton Hewitt in the championship final in four sets at Melbourne
Park on Sunday.
Safin paid special tribute to Lundgren, who began coaching the Russian in
May of last year.
``I never believed in myself until I started working with him,'' said Safin.
``We worked really hard. We communicate really well. He understood who I am and
I understood what he wants from me.''
Safin said it took four or five months for the work to show in tournaments.
``They are continuing to come,'' Safin said. ``He makes me believe that I
can be a good player, and I don't have so much doubt about myself, about my
tennis. He's a great person and a great coach.''

The Swedish-born coach won three singles and three doubles titles after turning pro in 1983, with his
highest singles ranking 25th in 1985.

I think I might be the last one to say this, but: ;D ;D ;D HE WOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D I still can't believe it, but I absolutely agree with some of you guys, I was much more hysterical when he beat Federer, but I guess right now I'm just... happy and relieved, you know? And that's a great feeling. I think that, leaving aside his horrible first set, it was amazing how he came back and fought for the others to finally win. Well, anyway, after reading his interviews, what makes me feel better is that now he really truly believes in himself, and that's the best that could happen to him, even more than winning the tournament (although I think those two things came together). So, I just hope he keeps up with this, keeps giving us more great-amazing-unbelievable tennis, and achieves whatever he needs to be absolutely happy (as we all are right now). And as for Peter, we have to give him a lot of credit, he has made wonders with our Marat's talent. BTW, here they said that what he was doing (the "bird dancing" ) was just him feeling Marat's vibes!! Kisses and congratulations to you all , I'm sure we have always been proud of Marat, but today more than ever!! ;D

But congrats Marat!! i think, for me atleast, part of it was i knew he could beat Hewitt, i didn't know if Marat could beat Federer and that was a weird feeling. No matter how bad Marat has played through out the years i always knew that if he concentrated and fought that he could win. I didn't know if he could beat Federer even if he did play his best. Luckily he put all my doubts to rest after torturing me for 4 1/2 hours lol
