Wow! 1 whole month without alcohol?! Peter must be working miracles on him Well, we'll have to keep an eye on his off-court activities and see if this is just a well-meant New Year's resolution, or he can actually do it. Anyway, good on ya, Marat! It's nice to hear him being professional and taking his career seriously; I just hope it's an achieveable goal and that it doesn't end in one months time. (BTW Peter, how about making him give up the cigarettes next, eh? ;D)

hmm. For a month? I would have done it another way: have an occasional drink but never get drunk, doing that all year.
Anyway, nice to know that he wants to be professional.

a whole month without alcohol....jeeez thats a b*tch.....but marats gonna be a lightweight if he manages it hahaha *ahem* ;D ;D my brother had a month alcohol ban before he rowed at henley in june and it was sooo funny when he started going out again ;D this from tennis-x.com Marat Safin capped his third straight singles loss at the Hopman Cup exhibition with a 6-0 third-set loss to Davide Sanguinetti -- way to bring down those Aussie Open odds Marat, we'll still be putting down some cash. It's the Hopman Cup, who cares? Not Marat...and.... If you're the persnickety type who like to play "Count the Errors" in news stories, go to town while checking out the "Aussie Open Warm Up Notes" on tennisreporters.net by Matt Cronin, who got up on the wrong side of the bed: "It was darkly humorous to see one (sic) the boys over at "X-treme Press Release and Wire Copy Rewrite" rip Reuters for covering the Hopman Cup like it's a real tournament, rather than an exo, and in the same piece, steal a quote from a Reuters exclusive on the Brad Gilbert-Andy Roddick split without attribution. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, guys. Yes, the Hopman Cup is a exo, but it's a successful and attractive one. It's the only nation v. nation mixed tournament in the world and should count for something. The field is good, although not great, and gives mixed doubles a proper venue." Yeah, it certainly counted to Marat, who tanked the event in both singles and doubles. It's the Reuters and tr.net coverage that confuses fans who can't tell the difference between exhibitions and the real thing. Sorry about the Reuters quote-lift mix-up, at least we know how to spell Qatar. Get coal in your stocking in December or something?...

(BTW Peter, how about making him give up the cigarettes next, eh? ;D) I think he's doing pretty well with that. For one week I was in Perth, never once he came down to the parties. I saw him only once in the casino but that was still pretty early. But I think he was also pretty tired during that week. So I dunno if it's actually Peter's doing or Marat's own will (well, from what I saw...Peter parties not any less than our old Marat) But I agree with Vass on that... I think if Marat enjoys drinks or ciggies... then let him be... just keep it in moderation.... that's all
