I watched the ceremony again this morning, and i watch the moment with the Russian athletes image by image, and no Marat.... btw Elisabeth, Youzhny did not wear his beret, he was probably the only one who hasn't a beret Chris>>they were all dressed in white (or cream-coloured, not very sure), with a beret in the same colour on their head. To me they looked very classy i've tried to find a pic on the olympics website but failed, and on the site of the ATP guess what pic you can see.... Federer with his flag, yes About this problem with the coaches, i don't think Peter is concerned. Well, that's what i concluded from what i read in the newsletter of tennis-X.com, because his name isn't mentioned: Apparently Russian coaches Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Shamil Tarpishchev, and Eduard Davydenko have been denied access to the Athens Olympics because they failed to provide the proper documentation: "I have turned to the President of the International Tennis Federation seeking to solve the problem and I think that Davydenko will eventually get it, but I see no reason for Kafelnikov and Leonyuk to go to Athens," Tarpishchev said. "It is not clear why members of our Olympic delegation had such problems, but we'll sort it out."...

in the article he's quoted from what he said in the pressconference, think this is the closest thing there is to the transcript of the pressconference we're gonna get[/b]
Marat does a Games u-turn By Ron Wall in Athens
15aug04 MARAT Safin would not say whether it was pressure from his German sponsors or the Russian National Olympic Committee but the volatile Russian has changed his mind about playing tennis at the Olympics.
Last month at Wimbledon he said tennis should leave the Olympics to the little sports, but now he can't wait to get started.
"Okay, so it's amazing," he grinned on the eve of the Olympic tournament at a press conference arranged by his German sports equipment makers.
"You know it's the most important tournament of the year and it's great to be here.
What had changed his mind?
"Very many reasons. Russia is a big country, we are trying to beat the US to be the top team."
"I am doing a good job actually, on the way to getting back to the top ten," he laughed. "All is well."
Safin went to the Sydney Olympics after beating Pete Sampras in the US Open final only to lose in the first round.
He is hoping for a little more here.
"I am playing well. I'm happy with everything, I've been preparing well and hopefully I am going to win gold for my country.
"Plus, there are lots of ranking points to be won." And he did put the Olympics ahead of Wimbledon. But for a straightforward reason.
"Wimbledon is very hard for me. You know, even when I lie I tell the truth."
