Thanks Damita>>>> I looked for anyone without a hat cause I am sure Marat was not going to been dead wearing that hat............. There are 2 persons without a hat that I can pick out, to the front and to the back, I could definately be wrong, but when I saw this kinda shot on tv last night I thought the person to the back was Marat, tall, dark hair and wearing no hat ;D BTW again Damita mucho thanks for all these wonderful links and pictures

in the article he's quoted from what he said in the pressconference, think this is the closest thing there is to the transcript of the pressconference we're gonna get [/b] Marat does a Games u-turn By Ron Wall in Athens 15aug04 MARAT Safin would not say whether it was pressure from his German sponsors or the Russian National Olympic Committee but the volatile Russian has changed his mind about playing tennis at the Olympics. Last month at Wimbledon he said tennis should leave the Olympics to the little sports, but now he can't wait to get started. So happy to hear you say this habibi What had changed his mind? HAhaha.......LOL Oh I so hope he does AND VASS, this one is for you>>> [/quote]

This is what I found on the Olympic site, hope I did not do a dupe...........or take away someones job Men's Singles : Marat SAFIN and Tim HENMAN 14 Aug. 2004 Comments from Marat SAFIN (RUS) and Tim HENMAN (GBR) ATHENS, 14 August - Comments from Marat SAFIN (RUS) and Tim HENMAN (GBR). Marat SAFIN (RUS) On his comeback season: "I am feeling good and I am on my way to the top 10. I hope to catch up with the top 10 players and beat them a couple of times." On the Olympic Games: "It is the most important tournament of the year. I am proud to be here and to compete for Russia. I hope to bring home a medal for my country." On preferring the Olympic Games over Wimbledon: "It is difficult to win Wimbledon for me so I prefer the Olympic Games because I have a better chance here." Tim HENMAN On the Olympic Games: "The Olympic experience is something I have always enjoyed. I like Davis Cup tennis, being part of a team, but the Olympic team magnifies that feeling." On his chances of winning: "The field is as strong as it gets. Everybody wants to be here. It’s going to be tough." On the Olympic Village: "It is my third Olympics and the team atmosphere is great. There is no chance of me being in a hotel instead of the Olympic Village." On the favourite in the men’s singles event: "Roger FEDERER is the favourite going into the tournament. He has distanced himself from the pack, winning eight tournaments this year." ONS cj/jb

thanks for the schedule Teresa!! i've been looking for it and haven't find it. I'm not sure they'll show tennis on french tv, but just in case they will, i wanted to know when he plays So he changed his mind? hmmm, that's a good news. I think the only reason he wasn't very enthusiastic about the Olympics was because when he arrived at Sydney in 2000 he had played an amazing tennis for 3 weeks, winning the US Open and Tashkent, becomming #1, and so he was exhausted... and as he played against Santoro ( ), he lost in the first round.... For sure you can't really appreciate the moment in those circomstances. Plus, i'm not sure, i didn't see the entire opening ceremony in Sydney so i may be wrong, but maybe he missed it because of Tashkent no? this might explain that he didn't really see the greatness of the Olympics at the time. And last friday, during the ceremony, he finally realised how great it was to take part in the Olympics Anyway, it sounds like he's motivated and happy, which is good!

Teresa>>yes it's at 5pm local time. Marat plays on court 1. The day session starts at 10am (with the match Sugiyama/Zheng, and then Ferrero/Arazi), and Marat's match starts the night session. It's weird that the day session strats at 10am and ends at 5pm with only 2 matches scheduled. They'll probably be finished before 5pm. But i think the reason is the heat. I guess there will be no match in the afternoon (let's say between 2pm and 5pm) because of that. btw, about the weather, on tv today they said that it will be raining on sunday in Athens ... i hope they were wrong. The commentator himself said that hopefully it would be raining at night, when all matches, races, etc. are finished.

Damita>>> u r welcome about the schedule, but Ruth has posted a better version on the Home page, so you will be able to check there everyday. Thanks for the confirming the timing of the match, I think you are correct about the heat and timing of the matches, habibi prefers to play at night, end of the day kinda of time, so I really hope this timing is good for him. Also...really hope it does not rain that will be awful. I so hope you are right about habibi's motivation, he does sound happy and I am sure he is happy and proud to be in Athens and representing his country. Long may this mood and frame of mind last!! ;D
