Thanks to Nicki & Jiat for the draws and stuff. And I have to agree wth Vassily on yhis one I don't think that it is a particularly bad draw for the singles, but the doubles is just dreadful!! Oh and Vassily, about the betting, as much as I love Marat I'm sorry, but I would just never bet on him cos as I said before we just have no idea who's gonna turn up on any given day!

OK, I can't surf the i-net, definitely!!!!!!! I come up with shocking news lately!!!!! Read yourselves! From Reuters. And sorry, I didn't know where to post it, but as it's related to Marat also I post it here. Is Peter with him in Athens?? ?? Or as our "Mr. Reliable" Shamil T. says - NOT?? WTF! I'm confused!!!!!! How can he go there without Peter, can't they have foreign coaches there or doesn't he really care and is aiming to lose to Kucera the 1st rd?? ?? That really would be shameful!!!!!!! UPDATE 1-Olympics-Russian coaches "denied accreditation" Fri 13 August, 2004 12:51 (Adds comment from Russian team chief, paragraphs 2, 6)
By Oliver Bullough
MOSCOW, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Some Russian men's tennis coaches have been denied accreditation for the Olympics, leaving players without guidance, according to national officials.
But the head of the Russian Olympic team in Athens dismissed the complaints on Friday, saying some tennis coaches had simply failed to file the required documents for accreditation in time.
The barred coaches include Yevgeny Kafelnikov, a former Olympic champion, said Shamil Tarpishchev, president of the Russian tennis federation and International Olympic Committee member.
"This is the most serious problem I have faced in my life, not one of our men's trainers has got Olympic accreditation," Tarpishchev, who coached former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, was quoted as saying ahead of Sunday's tournament start.
"I think on Saturday they will get it but by then there is almost no point in Kafelnikov or (Sergei) Leonyuk flying to Athens. It is not clear why members of our Olympic delegation had such problems but we'll sort it out."
In Athens, the overall head of the Russian delegation, Anatoly Kolesov told a news conference that the fault appeared to lie with the coaches themselves who had failed to provide documentation and said all the others had been accredited.

Plus I read the news in Russian and Shamil T. said that as he's a member of the IOC responsible for the tennis competitions he cannot go on court and help the guys!! I know Marat listens to him and I respect him a lot as a coach! D****

it's not so much as not having a person on court with him. cos that happens all year round anyway.
it's the offcourt bit that matters more. if peter's not there... who's marat to consult? or rather...who's gonna keep marat in check?
can shamil still counsel marat offcourt if he's an IOC official??

This years Olympic Games seem to be filled with problems, such as the russian coaches, and controversy, mostly from doping charges in track & field not proud to say most of them are from the US. I wasn't real happy the way Capriati and S. Williams decided they needed to pull out just before the games start, I actually don't believe their story, but that's just me. Now the russian tennis players have no coaches because of some paperwork, that's just a shame. I've been doing some reading and all the "expert" tennis journalists are writing is it will be Federer, Roddick, Moya, and Henman in the SF. Not a word about Marat around here. I don't mind reading about Moya and Henman but I'm so tired of Federer..Roddick...Federer...Roddick... I wonder if these 2 took a plane or just walked on water over to Athens. ;D Anyway I hope the ITF is helping to solve the problem regarding the russian coaches, this could be pretty bad for the team. I can see Marat now throwing his hands up in the air and saying the hell with this. Maybe he won't but he is what he is and he's probably not real happy right now. Hopefully he will prove me wrong. I just hope it all works out for the team.

Maria V>> i was reading this over, Reuters says 'coaches' and Tarpischev says 'trainers' so which is correct? I don't if the olympics is like Davis cup in that players don't have their own coaches, but can have their trainers?? If I am wrong some one correct me, So if so, it may mean trainers, like Walt?? Maybe Marat can't have Peter but he has Walt, and maybe Yevgeny is there as a member of the russian team rather than a personal coach, I really dunno? I am looking at the opening ceremony but have not heard anything about this and the only news on BBC was all about the 2 Greek atheles
