When you said on the day he first practiced with Haas that he was pissed and was ranting and throwing rackets I had a bad feeling about this tourney, just the same as I had a good feeling about Wimby when Mary said he was focused and blowing everybody off court during practice at Wimby ;D Maybe I should give up the day job and become a permanent courtside fairy ;D ... if only. Great show from young Andy today. Lots of lovely shots - he's got such a good pair of hands. Just wish he'd comb his hair a bit more ... I'm starting to sound like his mother. ;D LMAO. The Big Yin is in La La Land on Thursday ... new venue, new mindset. Cincy will be forgotten.

all this marat bashing is uncalled for. yes it was not great to see but he has always been like this. one thing bothering me the most is this consenus that he tanked the match at the end. he did not tank the match. Dima said in his interview it was in and would have challenged it and most def get the point, all marat did essentially was say the point is dimas and saved himself from going thru the formalities. whatever he is going thru i hope he overcomes it, i hate seeing him be this hurtful and harsh on himself, the person suffering here is marat the most, i dont know why tho. maybe he cares too much. sorry for ranting. but lets try and see the bigger picture here so when is it LA? next week? or does he have a few days off? I too will have to play "devil's advocate" here. I hate to see people seeing the "worst" in others when we might not being seeing the big picture. According to the Official ATP scoring rules, a player does have the right to call a ball good in his opponents favour when in fact it may have been called out. If I am correct, it was called out but, Safin gave it to Dim, and thus the completion of the match. I think it was just the body language, and the way that he said it, that gave such a negative & baffled response by everyone. Also as "devil's advocate," and please don't laugh at this...it is just a theory..something to think about. What is the one commone description the world has used to describe Marat throughout his career? Derogatory terms related to his mental status. Just what if (and this is a big if,) he does in fact have a real illness. I have Bipolar disorder, and I'll tell you, there have been so many times over the years when I begin to wonder about him....either by observing him, listening to him speak, or reading what he says. Even off-court, he can seem very happy & optimistic one day, and the next be so down on his past, present & future. Last year he mentioned something about having been depressed during part of 2006. It struck me as interesting that he would say "depressed, but not the Lithium type depression." He still brings up "odd" comments related to his childhood & when you read into his words, there seems to be great sorrow there. Next thing you know, he is referring to the future as having "only beautiful moments." During the warmup for this match, I said to someone at that point, "he looks very odd tonight..something is not right." As the match progressed (even before the first foot-fault,) I kept thinking the same thing over & over. After the first call, I thought "oh boy, here we go!" During his longest tirade, I laughed a little, and then I would feel sorry for him (again, that is me looking at the whole Safin thing in a different light.) I've never shown a "bad or negative" mood in public but, everyone is different. I do think there is a possibility that he does have a medical issue - one that hasn't brought him to seek a diagnosis / treatment. I do get a little peeved when the press refers to him as everything from a "nut job" to a "headcase." There was that really harsh editorial at Tennis.com last year, and I think he see's things like that, and it has got to hurt. Last year at the US Open, I stood next to him & Gumy for a while after his first practice (he was trying to find out how Dinara had done in her opening match.) He was so sweet with all of these children who where trailing after him, "Marat" "Marat...." for his autograph. He was like a piper...he gently went "shoosh, and motioned for them to walk with him, and as they did so, he signed, patted a few on the head, and was constantly smiling. He just wanted them to keep their voices down because we were all sandwiched in-between courts with active play. It was really quite cute. This could probably be a thread in itself. Anyway, didn't mean to rant...just wanted to toss something out there for all to think about. I can't help but feel sorry for him..that's me though.

anyone know how much marat will get fined for not doing the press interview? If they slap him with a fine, it will be the standard $1,000 (US) fine for not doing the interview.

watched several interesting matches...poor Bolleli and Berdych, and Dima won! I guess you guys have watched TV. So, I will just continue with my live report from Cincy about Marat. Called info desk, first telling me he didn't sign up (sigh), after I asked them to check again and they said "oh, 1pm court #6). According to my practice "stalking" experience, Marat's presence is just as unpredictable as his games. So I decided to go there earlier. JULY 30 And Marat showed up one hour earlier than scheduled. Luckily, I was prepared. Gonzo was there first. They practiced two hours. First hour, it's general. serves, ground strokes, volley and stuff. Marat got disgusted several times that he threw the racket, but he managed to keep the racket intact. 1 during break time. definitely a cell phone person. play with it whenever he is free 2. racket thrown by marat into the fence 3. this Hollywood star pose was totally out of surprise. we were there watching, all of a sudden, Marat came to us and said "ladies, move away" and motioned us to make a space in the middle. we were like clueless what he intended to do. It turned out that he striked a ball "LIKE A BULLET" (as a lady put it) to a court very far away, got pleased, pumped his fists and hailed "YES". We were all cracking up big time. I was inches close to Marat like sooooo many times, but this time he was looking at us with cute naughty smiles, I was like almost passed out. Gorgeous creature, so surreal! By the time I realized I should take a picture, he was already done celebrating. ;D Well, at least I caught him still staring afar. (check the background, Igor was laughing, too! LMAO) 4. practicing volley. whole body like roasted! Mary, he did apply sunblock. only on face and neck, though. The second hour, I heard Gonzo proposing playing a match or something like that. Marat seemed to do better and better. It's Gonzo's turn to go nuts. He smashed and smashed, finally stepped on the poor racket into L shape. They were playing quite seriously. But I had no idea who won, though. 1 a treat for the ladies. ;D Marat's shorts were totally wet and transparent. We could see thru what's inside, navy blue brief. ;D ;D 2. after two hours, they were chatting happily. Marat laughed and laughed. Unfortunately, I don't know Spanish. 3. Is Gonzo's coach a funny guy? Marat was laughing all the time listening to him. 4. as usual busy signing after practice. Our boy didn't leave through players' exit like the others, instead he left the tourney from the entrance as if he were a spectator. still signing even he was already outside. At the entrance, I got an autograph on his picture and asked him whether he will be practicing this afternoon. He replied with his unique low voice "yes". However, he didn't show up, or I went to some matches and missed it (which is quite impossible). I was kinda disappointed. Two cameras fully loaded in order to take as many as possible...... I figure he prob won't come to practice tomorrow (July 31)since he is flying to LA. But I am gonna inquire. That's it for the day. 5 days of Marat is really something! I am so geared in the tourney and totally burned out after getting home. Best of luck, Marat! And thank you guys for reading my reports. ;D kisses ps invincible: I use Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 and Nikon Coolpix P80. I like the previous better despite Nikon is way more expensive.

Well done Justsafin, great pics and updates. You are now a fully-fledged good fairy! You've got your wings.
Glad to see the boy relaxed and teeth on show - though a bit more sunblock wouldn't go amiss. I've still got my honorary Wimbles burns. Wish they would hurry up and fade - they look ridiculous. If he keeps his racquet smashing to the practice courts, I'll be a happy fairy. He fired a few bullets on the practice courts at Wimbles - at Dima's head when he was on an adjacent court. Yes, he is always playing with his mobile - I noticed that too. Maybe he's logging on to tgfr to see what we're saying ... LMAO.
God I hope not!

live updates from cincy by me again! ok, guys, I am so saaaaaaaaaaad. actually a little bit venting and long story, so please bear with me... First of all, give our big man credits for being diligent! I just saw him leaving the court @10:30. Anyways, since he usually(i should say everyday) practices twice a day, one at noon and one at dinner time. So I kinda miscalculated this time and sorry for thinking he probably will rest and fly to LA for the day. I was working on reports and uploading pix, so I normally don't go to bed until 3am. it's very draining physically. good thing is Marat's schedule saves my energy. I got up around 9 something and as usual called the info @ 9:30 and was stunned to hear that "well, he is practicing right in front of me at court #5. And I asked what time he signed up, he said 8:30 and added "Marat must have practiced awhile as he is totally sweating." I was like, OMG. ......call my cousin's hubby to pick me up and rush to the tourney only to see big man carrying his bag and leaving the court with of course, a bunch of fans following him for autographs........I stood outside of the tourney, watched the whole thing and blamed myself for considering him a party boy who doesn't get up early... I guess that he pretty much is done practicing in Cincy, you know, he has to shower, massage, rest and drive to the airport. and I decided to go home as I really am soooo exhausted that I prob can't even bear a match under 31C scorching sun. Took 3 pics from outside when he was leaving the court. here is the one he was half way to the locker room Best of luck, MARATIK! Hard works will pay off. I believe best times are yet to come. And no matter what, you have won our hearts for being such a down-to-earth/sweet guy. ;D i really have to take a nap now. can barely open my eyes ...woot...
